Maybe this is the best thing that could have happened

I know we are all pissed off and outraged about Sunday, but think back to other set backs:

Our previous 3 defeats have all seen us go on amazing unbeaten runs.

Let's not forget Deeney day, even relegation to League One, we have the strength of character to come back.

If we had won there was always the danger of getting ahead of ourselves and maybe not approaching the next run of games in the correct way. This defeat and the manner of it will mean there is no way we will be taking anything for granted or anyone lightly. We will be fired up from now until the end of the season and that feeling on Sunday will be one they will not want to repeat ever.

I was thinking exactly this today - hopefully this will sharpen us up. Plus all the talk today has been about Spurs and Arsenal's title battle. And yet we are still 2 points clear.

I was thinking the same and I posted in another thread that the nature of the defeat would also have worked in our favour,  Arsenal needed us to go down to 10 men to finally beat us which say a lot about us.

Everyone seem to think Arsenal or Spurs will win the league which will take pressure off us too.

I don't think there was ever a danger of us getting ahead of ourselves.  A win would have been much better, but you are correct though.  There is a certain value in losing, especially the way we did on Sunday.

It is important that we don't forget the feeling of losing like that and the smugness of the Arsenal fans for two reasons:

1.  I (and the players, I'm sure) won't ever want to feel like that again so will do everything they can to stop it from happening again.

2..  Winning tastes sooooo much better after you know how bitter defeat can taste.

Onwards and upwards!

I like to think in some alternate universe where we won yesterday, someone has posted "Was winning yesterday the worst thing that could have happened to us".

How can the bookies make arsenal the favourites for the title, when they have a much harder run-in, and we are still in the driving seat? I would have thought that spurs would have been a better bet.

What's their thinking and logic?

I think it's also worth noting that due to spurs pretty strong goal difference advantage over us a single point wouldn't have been all that much use. As long as there's no bad psychological effect on the players then the defeat isn't too damaging. If there anything like me it should make them want to win it even more!

Happens to every Champion. We NEEDED a loss, sounds weird? yes. But it's what we needed, we needed something to bring us back down to Earth so we can work on the problems that need to be fixed.

Would rather us lose one now, then lose a match between April/May that sees us potentially lose top spot, we'd then be too rattled and it could be too late to get it together.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

if all of our other defeats didn't happen our unbeaten run would've been well longer and we'd have been better i reckon

I think you've got a point, OP. We'll have to wait and see how the players react in the next match, but we couldn't really have asked for a better fixture to bounce back in- at home against an out of form Norwich (W0, D1, L6 in all competitions).

Our remaining opponents have a lower average league position than our rivals' remaining opposition, we're the only top 4 club who has mostly home league games left, we've got no cup distractions and more time to rest between games. If we're okay injury-wise, there'll be no excuses.

It has crossed my mind it was a 'good' result. Pressure shifts on other teams. (Not that I think we had any pressure on us, but what I mean is the pressure to succeed increases on other teams, teams that are already pre-occupied with other competitions).

I think i'm kind of clutching at straws and justifying my disappointment of yesterday though.

It's just a shame we have 2 weeks of stewing over yesterday, i'm comparing it to going into an international break on the back of a defeat, the rest will be welcome but 2 weeks is a long time to wait before we can see how we respond.

I'm actually over the defeat now. I was annoyed the entire day yesterday but I'm over it now. Looking forward to Norwich.

Arsenal fans are getting on my tits though. Horrible set of ***** supporters.

yup..Its that wonderful dynamic, of turning stunning victories into magnanimous defeats.

Simply because we are The Leicester. We have that sort of history...:)

But now we can spit it in the eye, we now have the spirit of King Richard to protect us...

oh... and the saucy leg of Rachel.

Definitely not the best that could have happened. A 95th minute Vardy winner would have been the best to have happened!

However I do get what you mean, our squad seem to be galvanised when we have a setback. The coverage now being centred on Spurs and Arsenal will be of help as the pressure I heaped over on those guys.

What I also find interesting is that pundits keep saying we've never been involved in a title race (even though we have in slightly differing circumstances as it was the championship) however nobody has mentioned that Spurs have never really been in the race either. They've finished 4th a couple of times but they've never been directly involved in the title. Who's to say the pressure won't get to them?

This kind of thing, it's only good in retrospect if you win the league.  Then you can point to it.

The 85 Chicago Bears lost the one game to the Dolphins preventing a perfect season but went 18-1 and won the Super Bowl.  In that case losing to the Dolphins was considered good by taking off the pressure.

The 2015 Carolina Panthers lost in week 14 and people thought that was a good thing for the same reasons.   But then they finished 17-2 losing to the Denver Broncos last week in the Super Bowl.  So the loss in week 14 didn't do anything for them.

I would have rather taken the 3 points vs Arsenal establishing a 5 point gap with Totenham, 8 point lead on Arsenal, 9 points on City and 15 points on Man U/No Champions league rather than some kind of potential moral victory.

I think that's the only good thing is that Totenham beat Man City.  Yes they have pressure too.  As does Arsenal and Wegner from their fans who have a complex of not winning anything for a long time despite all the talent.

The only team that really doesn't have that kind of pressure is Man City (plus they have Guardiola coming in next year so they don't care) and they are further back so that is at least ideal.

There are a lot of positives to be taken from yesterday, as Claudio has suggested.  We lost but it's not as if we had our arses handed to us.  I feel we would have comfortably got a positive result had we stayed as 11 men.  I'm not blaming Was or Simpson, they were just cruel circumstances that could have easily been avoided but for a embarrassing set of moaning players, manager, fans & a spineless ref.

We all know we were managing the game well, as we did at Spurs & at Man City.  We are able to compete with our biggest rivals on their turf & walk away with pride (& with 6/9 pts).  We are still top & in the best position to win the league.  I don't think we would ever be complacent, but just in case that could happen.......yesterday served as a reminder.

man city are the only ones who can play the "experience" card.

spurs have nobody who's ever won the prem, we have huth, arsenal have cech and welbeck. arsenal as a squad have obviously been around the top positions in the past but their "experience" is failure. they're specialists in failure and that's incredibly hard to get out of. i'd rather be a bit wet behind the ears and full of enthusiasm and spirit than thinking "oh god i hope we don't blow this AGAIN".
