Sol thewall Bamba Posted 17 February 2016 Posted 17 February 2016 In addition to the money coming in from finishing in the top four, champions league etc further amounts can/will be raised by selling the following: Simpson - £3m. Has played well above expectations, but not good enough for the level we are aspiring to. King - £2m. A good servant, and thanks for the memories Andy but we need something better to progress to the next stage. Inler - £3m. Hasn't worked out. Not really suited to our style. Benny - £4m. Ditto. Moore - £0.5m. Thanks Liam, but you are out of your depth. Dyer - back to Swansea. Best years are behind him. Ulloa - £7m. Good first season, but off the space second time round. Kramaric - £6m. A bit like Inler. He's not suited to our fast counter attacks. Wazilewski - contract not renewed. Thanks big man, but now time to move on. James - £2m. A little harsh, but need to free up funding for a more experienced player to come in. Total - £32m Our requirements: - back up keeper - quality centre half (possibly two) - quality right back - pacey winger - central midfielder x2 - centre forward x 2 People still on about ditching King
FantasticMrFox&Son Posted 17 February 2016 Posted 17 February 2016 Assuming the end of season doesn't go pear-shaped we will be looking at 2 MAJOR competitions next year. The Premier League (possibly as CHAMPIONS) and European football, at worst the Europa League, more likely the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. The owners priority MUST be to ensure we have a squad that retains this unique team-spirit (NO PRIMA DONNA's) but builds on our Premier League status, we belong here. Europe is the icing on the cake, we can dream but..... the spending power of PSG, REAL MADRID, BARCELONA, MAN UTD, MAN CITY, BAYERN, CHELSEA, ARSENAL even SPURS. So let's buy young. The two Dembele's (Fulham & Caen), Karol Linetty (Lech Poznan) plus IF AVAILABLE at the back, DJILOBODJI (Chelsea centre-back on loan at Werder Bremen) and Jairo Reidewald (AJAX). Bottom-line, spend it slowly and wisely.
Wymsey Posted 17 February 2016 Posted 17 February 2016 Just be glad we've got owners that have full faith in the scouts, and not owners that sign/dictate who to sign (such as Cellino and Tan, allegedly).
inckley fox Posted 17 February 2016 Posted 17 February 2016 I suppose as your club becomes a bigger name, the <5m signings become harder to find. If we still look out for players of the Mahrez ilk in lower foreign leagues, then they would cost us a lot more than 400K these days, purely because of our stature. That said, the indications seem to be that the club will look to invest in up-and-coming talent. Our average age has, on occasions, crept up over the 28 mark which tends to indicate an 'ageing' side, and the established line-up is 27.3 or thereabouts, so if we - as a smaller club - wish to steal a march on the top clubs we'll have to rediscover our club's traditional place as 'star makers', rather than 'stars'. If, for a change, we spend the money we recoup on them, and more, then who knows where it could lead us in the long-run.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 17 February 2016 Posted 17 February 2016 I've always rated Wijnaldum since he signed for Newcastle and would welcome him here. But like mentioned above he would be worth a lot and not sure Newcastle would want to sell him. I haven't seen too much of Sissoko to give a fair assessment. The key is to continue to build a squad that has the aspect of team togetherness but quality too. We've done well over the last 4+ seasons to do that. We've built a team that works 100% for each other every game, and yet still has the quality to be successful and win football matches.
gurru991 Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Ibrahimovic says that he is looking for a one year gig in the Prem before heading Stateside. Wouldn't he look good !
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Do you think Man City fans miss Nicky Weaver, Shaun Goater or Giorgos Samaras? You have to buy better players to progress. Shaun Goater is a bad example. They still sing about him now!

It's years since I've played football manager)

polarbear Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 people think inler, benny and kramaric will be moved on so easily? A) they havent been in the shop window much B) we will play 38 PL games next year, a minimum of 6 CL games & travelling + a minimum of 2 cup games. There's no way the current way we play can be sustained over that period. we'll either burn out or other teams will catch up and work us out (esp the CL teams) . thats where the different styles and capabilities of our foreign signings above may well be very useful (in addition to other players we sign)
Guest Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Those clappers have been a damn good investment.
suffolk fox Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 More paper talk bollox. We needed a new striker in January even Ranieri alluded to this was even asked the question will we be buying a striker in January? Ranieri said, a striker, yes, maybe, we need a striker. Who did we buy naff all. It is blatantly obvious that if we do qualify for European competitions next season the whole squad will need numerous quality additions cos our squad as it stands is nowhere near good enough to play twice a week regularly. I wish all these journalists hacks would cease with this crap.
themightyfin Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I would like to see Dzeko being one of the centre forwards and his colleague from Roma, Pjanic, filling one of the midfield slots. Aboubakar from Porto would be nice to have. Dragovic as a central defender and Seamus Coleman at right back. Wijnaldum in midfield and Sissoko from Newcastle possibly filling the winger's berth. Who do you think we are? . Your talking 150million plus. Add the wages and I doubt any would want to come.
stevelcfc Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 2+2=5 Owner have money, if they were going to break with our continuous improvement policy then they'd have done it in the summer after being so close to relegation last year and bringing in a new manager. As for people suggesting that we rip up half of the squad we have to bring in improvements, I think that just idiocy. The team is what were all about, just a few improvements needed, let them settle in and improve again. Any players we bring in will almost certainly fit our model of having the ability to add value, so young and brought for lower/equal to market value. There will no doubt be a couple of experienced heads come in to blend. My focus would be on bringing in a CB, RB, winger and ST (possibly 2 depending on Kram). Out for me would only be Inler, Benny, Schwarzer (Retired) and Dyer to go back. No wholesale and stick to the master plan, its worked so far.
foxes21 Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 RB - If Amartey does well at do we really need one with Simpson as back up? I'd keep Moore, just cause he can play there too. Two CB's please though, if Benny goes. Wing - We already have four wingers.. Mahrez, Alrighton, Gray, Schlupp. I don't think we need a first team winger as long as we keep Mahrez. Would be happy to see a talented u21 winger come in though. That Ousmane Dembele?
Sionnach gorm Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 If you're going to play in Europe you need more quality players. I'd go with young players, defenders, midfielders, and strikers. There are two defenders I like, ELogev Yao and Mihai Balasa (from crotone 19-20 respectively). In the midfield Franc Kessie and the Uruguayan Lucas Torreira. Forwards such as Kevin Volland from hoffenheim and Luuk De Jong from Borussia Mönchengladbach. All these players (as an example obviously) would be available, good and perfect for covering well the additional games. Plus I think some could be ready to take over when our stars start to age.
hackneyfox Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 King ain't going anywhere. (Same with Schlupp. Moore though, who knows.) We lose him, we lose a man in our UEFA squad. Not bothered about seeing the back of King or Schlupp should we be playing CL football next season. Both may just be good enough for the PL but aren't good enough for a top 4 side.
MPH Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Wondering if we will try a cheeky bid for Grealish if Villa go down?
FireFox Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Not bothered about seeing the back of King or Schlupp should we be playing CL football next season. Both may just be good enough for the PL but aren't good enough for a top 4 side. 4 spots of the 25-man UEFA squad must be filled by players who have been at the club for 3 years before 21.If we don't have those players, we lose those those spots. Getting rid of King, Schlupp, and even Moore weakens our squad for Europe, even if they never play, better safe than sorry.
Gerard Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I think our main purchases in the summer will be: 1) Right back, Simpson to be a squad player. 2) Centre back, Probably a first team player like Dragovic and Huth & Morgan will fight it out to partner him and for rotation. 3) An attack minded left sided player like Musa. Someone who can deputise for Vardy at No 9 but also offers more offensively if we play 4-3-3 like Ranieri has said he'd like that option 4) Maybe an attacking MF who can play No 10 or a No 10 who can play No 9. Maybe Breel Embolo. On the move: Kramaric Ulloa Benalouane Dyer (loan not followed up on) Schwarzer (retired) Moore Inler De Laet Possibly Schlupp if a good offer was received. I think King will stay as we'll need cover in MF and my mate went to the U21 match last Monday and said Choudary was very impressive and plays like a young Kante so maybe expect him to get some game time in the League Cup. I think Was might also stay as for another year as 4th choice centre half for another year as he still has it.

Jackster21 Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I think we have a very good squad, and we shouldn't make too much changes however their are a few changes here and they're which need to be made. Firstly TWO new backup CB's in case Huth or Morgan get injured and one to replace Was. A new first team player RB with Premier Leauge experience and then Simpson becomes a backup, A new backup CM behind Kante and Drinky, a Striker to replace Ulloa and Okazaki. Also a new winger/wide midfielder. And now the players that need to be sold are: Was - A good player however we can do better. Benny - Hasn't really fitted into the squad and we could get a few million for him. Ulloa - Not Good enough for the PL and could get a few million for him. De Laet - Again a good player however he could be getting a better replacement than him. Moore - Did well for us, however not good enough. Keep Inler as if we are in Europe next year, will we need more players and he is a good backup.
Jackster21 Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Ibrahimovic says that he is looking for a one year gig in the Prem before heading Stateside. Wouldn't he look good ! We should aim for someone younger and faster than Ibra and also he may not fit in with our counter attacking football however a good suggestion.
