desertfox2 Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Agreed. First half of yesterday was painfully slow. True but his passing might be useful for breaking sides down that sit back.
Thracian Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Don't get me wrong I love what a king has done for this club but I seriously don't get the love for him now. He is OK for a brief cameo but I would rather see Inler or Amartey start, when Kante went off yesterday we immediately looked more overrun in the middle. Obviously nobody can directly replace Kante but for me King is not the man to do it Very little of what I've seen of Inler so far has suggested he's good enough for our Premiership side or to replace King. Even yesterday, King won possession to start the eight-man move which led to our goal. No, there was nothing startling in that but it helped make a vital difference and he also played his part in keeping yet another clean sheet and a defensive record at home that is to be envied. The difference between King and Inler is that King's got a record of success in the Premiership. Inler's not stood out once - not even in a cameo. At best he's been okay. Listening to the canvassing is so like the canvassing for Kaebi - it sounds like followers, friends and relatives trying to make a case that isn't there. Even Ranieri, who I'm quite sure would have wanted Inler more deeply involved has clearly seen no justification and his reference to King "playing well" yesterday - plus the generally positive results we've returned when King has been involved - over years and not just in The Premiership suggest his confidence in the bloke is not only well placed but exceedingly well documented. As for Inler he did show improvement in his previous involvement but still made the kind of mistakes that could have cost and still didn't dominant or contribute anything of particular note. I don't know about Amarthey. Central midfield is said to be his preferred position so we might have another gem still to be uncovered. But I really don't see any great case for Inler. In fact I'd be quite concerned given his style of play.
ronnup Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Thankful we've got options I suppose, how's Matty doing?
Kendal Fox Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 No worries, we've got cover... and West Bromwich's situation is somewhat different to that of Norwich's... Doing much better in the table and not that much involved in a relegation dogfight. Although it's a Pulis side, will they be setting up the way Norwich did? I'd expect a much more free-flowing or less defensive-oriented match still. And our lads will have to do a bit better in terms of proactivity, cohesion and passing. Yesterday was a great result in the overall context, but I didn't like the performance. Hopefully, they're back to basics and have gotten into the flow again now. It felt all-too jittery and disjointed on Saturday. The thing is, I sort of see it in reverse. Norwich, above the relegation zone on thin air, really could not afford to play for a point but did. Whereas WBA only need a win or a couple of draws out of the last 11 games to ensure survival. Surely they can afford to play for a draw and will be even better at the negative approach than Nowich, no? I just hope we make a concerted effort over the next couple of days to address the possibility and have a genuine plan B. As for Kante, anyone know if it's set in stone that he is not playing on Tuesday?
UPinCarolina Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Unmitigated disaster. Glad we purchased Gray and Amartey in the window, but I can't fathom being able to do what we do without Kante.
Tincy Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Without Kante and playing King as a replacement we might as well write off the Premier League Title as it is like playing with 10 men. He played in the Liverpool match which we lost. He played in the 2nd half of the Arsenal match at home which we lost and let 3 goals in. He came on for the last minutes of the match away against Arsenal and we let that goal in. Unfortunately he is just not good enough. He doesn't tackle and his own team don't pass to him and there is no attacking play. I was hoping James would be back to cover the midfield. I would rather see Armartey play instead of King.

I can't tell if you're trolling or you're actually that moronic to believe Andy King was the reason we lost against Arsenal, Liverpool and Arsenal again. Idiot.

smudger63 Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Well, we signed Amartey on the strength of the performances he put in as a defensive midfielder for Copenhagen, so for me, we should put Simpson back in at right back, and start Amartey in place of Kante, if he isn`t fit. We wont though, we will play King, which for me weakens the midfield considerably, and is a bit of a concern.
marko Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Even yesterday, King won possession to start the eight-man move which led to our goal. No he didn't. Huth won a header from a long ball against Redmond and knocked it down.
ThingsCouldGetMessi Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 give Matty James a game. He hasn't played a game for nearly 10 months and I can't help but feel we are not really in a position to start fitting him back into the team just due to our title challenge and James needing a while to find his feet. If anything, I would like to see James go out to a Championship team for the rest of the season. It's not going to help him if he spends 90% of the time on our bench or not playing so finding a club who would give him regular games seems the most sensible answer. I'm also confident Kante will be fit for Tuesday. Ranieri's quotes suggest he had the problem through the week before the Norwich game. I would say he was subbed as precaution. I also had a look on wiki and saw Kante has only missed 1 league game during the last 4 seasons. That just backs up how super fit the lad is. How he does that much running and hardly gets injured is almost unbelievable.

He looked a bit nervous and not used to this level. I have high hopes for him but I'd rather we go the tried and trusted route of King than take a chance with Amartey on the strength of what I saw.

King or Matty James if he's fit ..... they aren't Kante but they won't let us down and we'll beat the Baggies anyway.

Fair enough, but lets not forget that he was playing at right back, which is not really his preferred position. He plays centre half for Ghana, and was playing defensive midfield for Copenhagen, which seems to be his more natural position. I thought he done ok yesterday anyway, he was not spectacular, and as you said looked a little nervous early on, but i don`t think he done much wrong really.

fuchsntf Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 No matter what you all want, Claudio will chose above your heads, and get it right again..!!!
Bluetintedspecs Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 No matter what you all want, Claudio will chose above your heads, and get it right again..!!! Ha ha ha, totally this
kyleolly Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Some of Amartey's passing was shocking yesterday he can't play central midfield I'd give Inler a go
glenelgfox Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Players get injured and miss games, players pick up yellows and miss games - thats life but for some on here to suggest we will lose (1) the Brom game and (2) the title because Kante may miss one game is just pure panic and without any real logic or base??? The most absurd thing I have read on here for awhile too is Tincy and his absolute bollocks of a post about Andy King! We (the team / squad / whole club) have worked hard all season to get us top and keep us top presently and on course to pull off one of the greatest sports victories of all time and we have done that through consistent TEAM performances with valued contributions from all of our players. Highlighting just Kante, Vardy and Maherez is fine as they have been standouts but to suggest we are doomed because Kante may miss one game is just complete panic and a loss of faith by those who suggest that. There is still along way to go but the dream remains very much alive and WE ARE STILL TOP! I love this forum and other social media forums, I love the passion we have for our club but we have some absolute bellends as supposed supporters on here with some of the sh*t that gets posted and to think in the main these are the same people who bag the opposition supporters for comments about us and other teams on their forums. Some people need to get a grip and look in the mirror!
m4DD0gg Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 King is simply not good enough and even the most blue tinted spectacle wearers must see this. James is pretty much finished, shame but no one comes back a 3rd time from such bad knee injuries. Anyone moaning about amartey needs a word with themselves, he played out of position in his first game in the most intense league in the world. Get him in if kante is unable to play and simpson revert to right back.
Riot Van Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Some of Amartey's passing was shocking yesterday he can't play central midfield I'd give Inler a go Ever tried making your debut in front of 32,000 people for the team top of the premier league in a league that is completely new to you? Lets not forget Kante didn't look amazing in his first few games.
smudger63 Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Some of Amartey's passing was shocking yesterday he can't play central midfield I'd give Inler a go If he can`t play play midfield, why did we buy him, because that`s where he`s been playing for Copenhagen while we scouted him. You`re judging someone who was thrown into making his debut, in a position that is not his usual one, due to circumstances. As i said earlier, i thought he done ok, yes there was the odd stray pass, but then even Drinky was guilty of a fair few stray passes yesterday. At the end of the day, although i personally would put Amartey in for Kante, if he can`t play, i`m pretty sure that King will come into the side instead.
sdb Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 It's not that Amartey can't play at CM...he's just not ready to at this level yet. That was made abundantly clear yesterday. Needs more time to acclimatise.
