Nampalys Mendy

Brilliant player !

Ranieri loved him when he was training Monaco a few years back (he was a youngster there then).

He as been absolutly brilliant with Nice this season. In France, he is widely considéred as an equivalent to Kanté, even if, of course, it is impossible to say if he will adapt to PL as fast as the formor Caen player.

Really, if Kanté is bound to leave (I don't want it though), this is the man to get to replace him.

Good to see you back EarlBeaumont and I respect your opinion that Mendy is a brilliant player but the stats fail to back that up.

On this evidence I see a player who doesn't offer much offensively but also hardly makes interceptions or tackles like Kante does, what am I missing?

I haven't heard anyone who's watched a lot of Mendy say he's another Kanté. He sits deeper in midfield and is more of a passer who helps hold possession rather than win it back.

You're obsessed with Sqawka, man. Not everything is as black and white as stats on a website.

The excellent French Football Weekly (who, after signing Kante - said he'd be a huge success for us) have said this:

And I'm inclined to believe them when they say he's more than steady.

This signing would calm down the natives (and me). Please get this done Rudders, but NO release clause

under 50M Euros :-)

All this talk of needing more centre midfielders when we all know what it will come down to, a few will get injured/suspended, Kingy will come on tear it up and remind everyone why he should never leave.

looks a great signing, should sing him regardless of Kante coming or going. Anybody know a ballpark price on him?

Mirror quoting 15m Euros. We seem to have offered 12?

Thank you for remembering me ^^

I guess i didn't lie to you when I said back then that Kanté was a massive signing and one of the best midfielders in France :)

Regarding Kanté & Mendy, the main differences can be explained by the formation he was playing this year.

Nice was playing 4-4-2 with a midfield in diamond, with a huge ball possession. Therefore, i just can't have stats equivalent to Kanté (from its Caen season or its Leicester one) because they don't have the same role in the team.

His role in Nice was to makes interceptions (but not that much considering the ball possession compared to Caen), get the ball back from the CB and the pass to Seri or Koziello, both being "8" midfielders, and it was their role to create attacks, along with Ben Arfa in number 10 (which have been just about god like this season).

So, I don't think he can fill up Kanté's shoes in the flat 4-4-2 used this season, because he don't have (yet ?) this ability to go forward. He is not box-to-box. However, if the rumor of a 4-3-3 is true, then in the role of a 6 he would be just perfect, with the help of more offensive midfield in front of him.

Maybe I've got carried away yesterday when I said he is a perfect substitut. Yet, in France, he has been the best 6 of the season (along with Verratti, but totally different context and style). So, for the defensive bit, he is a perfect replacement, but he won't have the same impact forward.

Please keep in mind that the adaptation of Kanté to the PL has been just astonishing and I can't promise anything. But when I compare last-year Kanté et this year Mendy, I see a very good bargain.

Also, keep in mind that he is contracted until 2018, and not 2017 as most of newspaper are saying (he extended his contract this year) and that Jean-Pierre Rivère wants 16M€ out of him (~£12.5M) and as French clubs know that English club are crazy rich, he won't lower.

We'll pay it, Ranieri is desperate to finally get him I reckon.

They do look similar!

As for stats compared to Kante he isn't as effective on paper but then against N'Zonzi he seems like a decent punt!

why are people comparing Kante's & Mendy's stats. They play total different roles for their current clubs & Nice & Leicester's style of play is polar opposites.

That's not to say Mendy can't succeed in a midfield 2 though, we just don't know.

Well he's classed as a def mid and surely has the same job of stop the opposition attack and pass to our team.

Just gives an idea of what sort of player he may be.

We can't compare like for like in a team that plays the same as Leicester as there just isn't anyone out there!

Mendy would be a great signing. As LCFC FOX said, we have real potential this summer to bring in quality. Hope we do!

Those defensive stats for Kante are unreal... He's genuinely the 1 player we have no chance of replacing

Not sure how many have mentioned it but this guy would offer Ranieri the flexibility he wants. Can't play 4-4-2 every week. When he tried 4-3-3 last season it was a non starter (2nd half aside at Watford), With Kante (hopefully), Mendy plus Drinky, James, Amarrtey & King you can match up better with certain sides.

Away in the CL against top teams we'll need to have a plan b.

Drinky, Kante, King, James, Amartey, Mendy

if this guy joins we really don't need 6 first team CM's surely?

One of James or Kante are definitely off I reckon
