What we did not have was a team or match fitness. The pre season was not good. Too much partying and travelling. Several have returned overweight and unfit. That can be fixed fairly quickly. What may be harder to fix is the team spirit. All this talk of transfers and new £100 000 per week contracts for some but not others must be causing jealousy. Not panicking, but anxious. Claudio and Morgan can fix it.

It's alright crying out for Huth's return but neither of them were exposed last season as much as Morgan and Hernandez were today. It's the midfield that we need to address, and work on doing what we did last season. This is now when we find out if Mr. Ranieri was a genius, or we were carried by a wonderful talent who enables us to play how we did last season. Very good point about finding out about Ranieri. Is he a genius or was last season a product of Pearson's hard work, and a hang over from the formula he found during the great escape?? Before people on here get too excited, I'm not taking anything away from CR. He did the job he was brought in to do, and that was basically not to change anything NP had put in place, and why would you have changed anything? Just look at our form during the great escape, that was top 4 form, if not better. CR is obviously an intelligent guy, smart enough to see that the formula had already been discovered by his predecessor, he just had to stick to it, which is much easier to do than actually discovering the formula in the first place. The problems start when the new manager starts to do things their way, and move away from the ethos and elements that were installed by the old regime. I for one hope this is only a blip, and we find out CR is well and truly a genius. Up up the City *This was originally posted in the post match thread, but I think this is a more appropriate place.

I think he did a little better than "he did the job he was brought in to do" i.e keep us up and we won the league. Why are people questioning Ranieri after we won the league.

I wish we would move on from NP....you are all deluded if you actually believe that we would have achieved what we did with him. CR has been doing things his own way for quite a while in case it has been missed. CR proved repeatedly last year in his tactics, PR Management, motivating the players and most importantly in results that he light years away from NP. Let him go........it's embarrassing that they are mentioned in the same breath imo..... Our club punched way outside of its history last year and the step up to be an annual competitor at the top table will have some bumps along the way...we lost parts of our successful team, complacency, poor preparation due our new found fame and just a sub standard performance are all elements that will take a few weeks to flush through. CR has earned full respect imo and even if he we have the worst season anticipated I would rather have him in charge as he will sort it....sadly we will lose players through ego, heads being turned etc and everyone is going to want to beat us....that in itself will be a challenge....like others having travelled thousands of miles preseason and yesterday it is obvious we are not as well prepared as usual but hey, we have never won the league before so it's no great surprise!! Lets be patient, get behind the boys and do what we do best prove the doubters wrong!

Yes we won the league under CR, but we did this using the formula largely put in place by NP. Whilst we hadn't been getting the results, for most of the games in our first season back in the PL, we were playing ok. NP mangaged to find the formula to also get the points. It's not like we were playing shite and CR had to come in and totally change things and still won the league - everything was already in place, he just had to continue with it! What is starting to cause concern is, we seem to slowly be moving away from a lot of the elements that have worked so well for us, over these last few years of success. I fully understand a new manager will eventually change things, I just really hope they are changed for the better.
dedlock Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 CR is right,It was a disjointed performance,we lacked fluency and didn't play as a team. For me that was,in part, due to selection. We needed Albighton and Okazaki to start. While it is difficult to start a long season at 100% we needed to be closer than 70%,Hull were.
Edingleyfox Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Yes agree with CR comment about wing play and I would like Albrighton back for his crossing ability and work rate - Gray wanted to make an impression but he is not a striker.

So much was changed by CR inside the dressing room, on the training pitch, the way he treated the players, tactics and the results. We need to evolve and move forward...preseason was a PR exercise which we will learn from the club has gone from £30m+ to a £200m+ business overnight and lots will go wrong. CR has talked about a Plan B and having more of the ball, better players and being a target to be knocked down is what LCFC is now.....CR knows big clubs and we are in for a bumpy ride as we evolve but please can we all move on from NP....he's at Derby and good luck to him...a partnership made in heaven. i think our owners deserved better and have got better with CR but we need to ride the Highs and Lows a bit more realistically....
fuchsntf Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 You lot of wuzzies...Now having a go at Ranieri, plonkers all of you.. Rip up your season tickets...I would rather have the glory hunters, the prawn sandwich brigade. If you all bothered to follow the full program of Claudios reactions, his various interviews and reactions pitch side..he was bloody angry and dissapointed, on individual and team game reactions and performances. Coming off and during play if looks could kill..!! It wont be him that fails...The players have to step up, not a complaint, but fact. It is natural fans asks questions on the players character, after such a performance.... but 1st game..too many fans losing it already.!!. Have no doubt Mr Claudio Ranieri, will get his players to understand..its whether the players can grasp it translate it and produce the intensity from last season...
m4DD0gg Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Wonder what the odds are in finishing in the bottom 3. The next 2 matches are going to be hardcore and i can see 2 defeats coming our way, added to that the fact we are clearly not fit, missing kante big time, champions league pressure.

Pasty1 Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Calm down.... it's one match!!!!! Yes we're all disappointed..... But we need to react to defeat like last season.... already people questioning CR......... Oh dear....

Bluetintedspecs Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 If this is what it's like after just one defeat, when we're patently under cooked, missing key players and had one of those days, I think I need to find a site without so many drama Queens......maybe I'll try Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Classy man. Came in, defended his players, gave the impression of knowing what needs to happen whilst being open and honest. If it's tactical improvement that we need to make, Claudio's the man to nail that.
nettle Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 It's a shame some fans on here didn't see Leicester when Mclintock was in charge. Yesterday's performance wasn't that bad compared to some of crap played when he was here.
steveb Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 i thought Leicester got what they deserved.poor performances by most of the team - half of them took the day offFirst few minutes and after the subs was the only time they tried.total lack of organisation, defence all over the place, outpaced. Midfield , complete lack of ideas, , dwelling on the ball, giving it away, hopeless , chasing around like schoolkids, no purpose. No ideas,The new winger - Musa good pre-season , good positions, hardly made a cross - fell over a lot -fouled even more - third division stuff. Gray - only good thing he did was fall overMahrez - on holiday - poor Vardy, not a single decent pass to him all daySad beginning - and yes i am a leicester fan

The owner is aiming at 40 pts and so is Ranieri...and it is not a tactic Otherwise they would have never let Kante go they would have matched chelsea offer. They also would have spent a little bit more then getting average players. Let's not forget also that everyone out there in "expert" land had picked up 7th at the highest. Maybe Hull are this year's Leicester? (Attempt at humor there)

You rekon Liverpool and Manchester United fans aren't allowed to complain just because they've won the league year after year? We did not deserve to draw yesterday. Hull were better than us and clearly wanted it more. Fair play to them because everybody wrote them off. I expect and hope for much better than yesterday's performance, but I don't think we've actually strengthened enough.

Midfield is a massive problem now Kante has left. I really felt for Drinkwater because I thought he was our best player despite doing the work of two players.
RowlattsFox Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 I can't believe people still think we won the league due to not changing much? We we managed to play 442, we managed to keep mahrez out wide, we played with a narrow back four, we got the best out Danny drinkwater, we utilised Albrighton has a left winger. None me of which we were able to do under Pearson. The only thing we carried in from Pearson was confidence and a high intensity press.
