Long Eaton Fox Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 I feel that we have failed to use our newly found fame to get in the signings that would take us on to the next level. Maybe Musa and Mendy could work out but the others are for the future. Our net expenditure is £0. Lose a few games in the prem and go out of the CL and our attractiveness is over. I hope some major signings come in over the next two weeks but I fear we have lost a major opportunity.

I have total faith in CR and the owners so there's no doom and gloom from me...

On a positive, just imagine how good we will be when we have Chilwell, Kapustka, Gray, Amartey, Mendy and Musa all in their prime along with whatever other players we sign "for the future" in the coming seasons. It might seem a little underwhelming now but you won't be saying that in three years when we have a squad full of world beaters. As long as we are a competitive top half side over the next couple of seasons and we develop the above players well along with whoever we might sign in the near future then I reckon we will be challenging for title again in 2018/19 providing we hold on to all of our high potential players and make some more astute signings in the coming transfer windows like we always do. Be patient, it's better then watching League One football and w@nking over signings like Momo bleeding Sylla!

Westerby Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 Musa is certainly the fastest 37 year old I've seen. I know the age of some African athletes is 'questionable' but he looks more like the stated 23 than 37.
Mezeker Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 I too feel rather underwhelmed going into the season for the simple fact that are team is much weaker than last season even though the squad is stronger and this is reflected in our net spend (even though the increase in wages for numerous players actually pushes our total expenditures considerably above even). However this view only makes sense if you feel like you want to put up a good fight in trying to reclaim the premier league title or go for top 4 neither of which i think we are trying to go for.
LinekersApples Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Transfer window is still open and there's a rumour going round that there's another one in January!
lgfualol Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Would like a couple qualiteh signings by deadline day. Even Crystal Palace have spent £27m on someone.

Bunyip Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Sorry to say the fact is winning the prem just the once does not make us a big club . It would take a few years being in the top six before we get credited by agents and top players alike. Most of the football world while enjoying our win last season think it was a one off ( and are probably right ) . It takes a few years to earn credibility and hopefully this should be our aim in the long run. Until then our only option is to pay big wages to the players we already have who are top notch and hopefully recruit great players under the radar again. which I hope is what we are doing . only time will tell if the latest recruits turn out as good as the likes of Kante , Mahrez , Vardy ect . But I feel our success last season has raised expectations beyond what we can realistically achieve in the short term , however I'm equally positive that the owners do have a long term strategy that will see us going from strength to strength .
StanSP Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 ha as if my post got deleted for calling you out on how pathetically pessimistic this thinking was. I'll ask again what signings you'd have like us to make? Let's just spunk our money on anyone and everyone just cos they're a 'big' name and fvck ourselves up for the future. We just won the league by 10 points (was that enough for you?). What 'major opportunity' have we missed? By the way, we've just kept Vardy and Mahrez on our books. That's a massive 'opportunity' which we succeeded in.

I think the issue now is that 'small' names are also expensive. Partly because we are the Champions, and therefore have received a big pay-day, but also because every team in the PL has more money than ever before. We will struggle to find bargains now, both in and out of the PL. The PL teams don't need to sell and the non-PL teams will think we can spend big. So now the dilemma is, do we spend big on an unproven 'small' name player from the French second division, or do we spend bigger on a 'big' name player who is more proven. I think the latter probably makes more sense even if both strategies are not guaranteed to work.
norwichfox Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 The future looks very bright, I don't mind us "treading water" for a season or 2 whilst some of these future "stars" come through, still be good if we can pick up the illusive FA cup though ....I get the feeling that the owners may be seeing it that way too.

If we only tread water yet have these young stars making impacts from the bench or showing any sort of promise. Will they still be here in 2 years time? Having cl football must have played a big part in holding onto the current players. Don't tell me that had we finished 8th with vardy and Mahrez carrying us they wouldn't have considered leaving for a cl club.

Whether they will be here in 2 years time, I've no idea, but one or two of our top players have a max of 2 years left at this level and at the pace we play at (just my opinion tin hat donned). After our fantastic season end of 2014/15 only Cambiasso left out of the players that really mattered. I'd be delighted if we could qualify for CL this season again, but it's too early to tell. The owners have stated that "Our plan is to bring long-term sustainable success to Leicester City Football Club", and my interpretation of "sustainable" means not throwing buckets at mediocre players toward the end of their career whilst our "buys for the future" rot in the reserves. We've had expensive (including record fee at the time) buys that just haven't worked...Inler, Kram, Benny immediately spring to mind, they just don't fit into the hectic PL system we've been playing, but I do think Inler's calming play could help us progress in the CL. CL football for next year is one hell of an ask, probably more so than what was achieved last year without having Judas available.

Guest CityFan 06 Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 I do actually agree with the post, and find it surprising we haven't been able to attract star players who we've wanted. Premier League football is always going to be key though, and while we have that it will always help. CL football is exciting for any newcomers, and if we manage Europe next season/in seasons to come, then we will continue to get better by bringing in quality players progressively.

foxy boxing Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 lets just see what happens, despite are league win we are still not attractive enough for some players who just want to play for a big club or they want to live in london
Foxes1 Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 I don't think it helps when the owners come out with statements that the money is there for strengthening the squad and sometimes quoting figures, people then assume we are going to spend it. Whilst the owners have put a lot of money into the club etc. and I respect them for that they do have to be careful in the statements they put out.

It's not sustainable tho is it, if we buy them, then don't have some sort of success that makes them want to stay, like it or not, we are not the most attractive proposition with CL football. Without, we are just another club, and to many a stepping stone to proving yourself good enough for the top flight ala Kante, wenger admitted he decided he wasn't good enough for the prem, kante joins club he doesn't want too, plays well gets move. I think a lot of the business being done is good and with 1 eye on the future, however, the chances of those younger players staying at the City will dependant on some sort of relative success. Hopefully Gray and Kupustka do get chances and shine, but we know that if they do and we don't have something to offer in terms of challenging for trophies, players move on. If we now win nothing for 4 years, yes as a Fan we still witnessed the most incredible season, but as players they will see if they have other options and we just go back to being one of about 14 teams in the PL.
Gerard Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 I had great hopes for this coming season and feel underwhelmed how it's all gone. I thought we had three players of the highest calibre in Kante, Vardy & Mahrez. Schmeichel, Morgan and Drinkwater were a level below but good enough for a top four side. Fuchs and Huth were highly competent. If we replaced Simpson, Okazaki and possibly Albrighton with huge upgrades then I thought we'd be a lot stronger and would have a chance of defending the title. It's not quite worked out the way I planned in May.
