I agree with your team, and the areas that needed improvement at the end of the season. The only thing that has happened to our starting X11 is that we have become weaker as Kante departed. I would like to see investment, with some champions league quality players, in the now 4 areas highlighted. There is nothing wrong with the players we currently have, however we will need more players for the extra games in Europe. I think we have strengthened in depth well enough, but the first 11 quality isn't there to compete on all fronts. RB DM LM TM

Gazza M Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Yes, was hoping for some more champions league experience. It seems a policy that we wont overpay for players and that is fair enough. Just hope we have enough players to cope with number of games. If we make just one more signing I think we can cope. I would like to see another Striker come in.

I understand about the argument for spending more money on players. And with Walsh's underlings still on the books, there's a track record here for spending wisely. The trouble would be in spending that amount of money on the right player. The higher the fee, the more pressure there is on the player to perform and on the manager to get them to perform. If Gabigol, for example, is actually worth that amount and we're willing to spend it then fair enough. I'm not sure that there's, say, a £30m+ player that we desperately need though. Although, if a real top class centre half became available I wouldn't mind if we went in for them, providing that their potential pay packet wouldn't upset our other top earners.

I agree to a point, yet I think at the same time you have to buy a name/s as the next stepping stone , that is the way forward if we want big aspirations.

And what exactly do you think is the next step? It takes money to regularly compete with the top 5/6 and lots of it. We'll never be able to match what they can spend, so we'll carry on trying to be a well run ship and getting the very most out of our resources. The next step for us is a backwards one, people need to accept it.
