We we are stating that Mahrez has not scored 50% of the penalties he has taken, we are not simply griping because he missed yesterday. On the basis of the evidence over the last 12 months, Vardy should take them. If he is found to be wanting in this department Claudio can pick someone else for the job.
ithuriel Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Mahrez is just not a very good penalty taker, when running at players and he is full of confidence he is a very dangerous player, from free kicks he is dangerous too but penalties he should really stay away from because his conversion rate is not the greatest, if the keeper guesses the right way it is as good as saved.
desertfox2 Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Vardy should be given a chance now. It's good for a striker to take pens to keep confidence up. Mahrez has to be off penalty duty now for sure just doesn't look confident taking them.
Soar Fox Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Mahrez, Vardy & Ulloa record for us taking penalties in competitive games. Mahrez Took 9, scored 5, missed 4. Vardy. Took 7, scored 6, missed 1. Ulloa Took 3, scored 3, missed 0
Dickov22 Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 No idea why Mahrez is on penalties. Suspect he won't take anymore for us!
Soar Fox Posted 28 August 2016 Posted 28 August 2016 Who's letting him take them? Someone needs to take control & either tell him or take the ball off him if we get another one. He scores yesterday its 3-0 and game over. Instead we had to hang on for the last 15 minutes and it could have ended up costing us.

Or if you happen to be in the stands, just go and do it by yourself.
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 29 August 2016 Posted 29 August 2016 Vardy's technique of just twat it will ultimately have him miss some penalties as we saw with his miss against Everton. Mahrez just doesnt look right running up and with him it really does feel like 50/50 whether he scores or not which the stats seem to back up. Really, we have no natural penalty taker. Fuchs had a reputation as a set piece specialist but we haven't really seen any of that. To be honest i'd probably like to alternate it through the team. We saw against Celtic that in a one off situation, most of the guys can bag a pen so go with that. There's no real advantage to having a designated penalty taker.
Countryfox Posted 29 August 2016 Posted 29 August 2016 Interestingly CR told Stringer that he lets 'whoever feels best at the time between RM and JV' take the penalty ..... But today JV is quoted as saying 'The gaffer decides who will take them' ..... Pub chat thinks its in RM's new contract that he has to take most free kicks that look scoreable and all pens or he'll take his ball, go home and sulk for ages ... Personally I think CR (for whatever reason) does let RM take them (and didn't really want to admit to it), but needs to address this asap ... before it costs us. JV is the obvious choice and as Matt Elliott said 'best not to rotate but stick with one man ... unless his head goes' .... (as has happened to RM).

Countryfox Posted 29 August 2016 Posted 29 August 2016 31 minutes ago, Royston. said: if mahrez wants to take them, let him. Any particular reason ? ... he seems to miss more than he scores. If we can't find someone better out of the other 10 on the pitch we must have the most sh1te bunch of penalty takers the world has ever seen.
Fox92 Posted 29 August 2016 Posted 29 August 2016 I'm alright with Mahrez taking them... so long as the game is already out of sight. IE we are already 3-0 up. If we're level, or just one/two goals in front then I'd rather Vardy or Fuchs. Vardy just hits them and I like that - usually down the middle too - and Fuchs seems like he'd have a bit of craft in his.

Foxxed Posted 29 August 2016 Posted 29 August 2016 I was willing to give Mahrez support last season. But really: he's missed too many now. I'm happy for him to be an out of this world winger. He doesn't need to take our penalties as well.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 29 August 2016 Posted 29 August 2016 Okazaki took a decent one vs Celtic Hate Mahrez pens. Shouldn't be anywhere near them ever again
foxy boxing Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 mix it up a little, don't have a regular penalty taker, always keep the opposition guessing/
bluesbrothers Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 If he's on the pitch, Ulloa every day. Otherwise, Vardy. Mahrez has had enough chances.
Nod.E Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 I've voted Vardy but to be fair to Mahrez Saturday's was more a case of good save than bad pen.
Detroit Blues Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 Why doesn't Vardy take the penalties every time? I always feel confident when Vardy goes up there to take it. No nonsense, he just smashes it in there. Sure, he blazed one over the bar against Everton, but he had converted most of his opportunities last season. Plus he draws the penalties most of the time anyway, so he might as well be rewarded by taking them.
