Hey guys, another Sporting fan here.

Basically, the thing we're most upset about is that we had no time to prepare for Adrien leaving.

This (reported) bid below the clause and with a high salary for one of our key players is frightening and we're kind of panicking about it. But the fact is that he signed a new contract this February (for 4 years) with what was probably a nice sum as a signing bonus and now he pulls this off two days before the market closes.

It's a really hard position in which to hire and train a new player that's even remotely as good as Adrien.

So that's that: he wants to leave, because his salary would go up by a lot, but we as a club don't want to let him go (and apparently there hasn't really been an official bid from LCFC) and think we don't really have to, due to the commitment he promised to the club just 2 months ago.

I hope all ends well and all parties can end up happy in this cluster****.

Trust me, you dodged a bullet with Carrillo.

Also, he's totally crazy.. For Sporting.

Can't we promise him a week in Bangkok to swing it?

One night should do it. I've heard that's all it takes, and the world's your oyster.

There have obviously been negotiations.

Silva has been at the club 15 years and obviously feels he has paid his dues. He wants to leave.

If Sporting are being serious with this statement (and I doubt they are) and if his release clause is €45 million and they refuse to move then IMO that is too much.

We should walk away and leave them with one unhappy Captain. They can pick up the pieces. We look elsewhere. I just don't think we're that desperate to be held to ransom. We hadn't even considered Silva 48 hours ago.

They're the ones under financial pressure, were the champions of Europe's richest league with a shed load of cash.

Sure we can afford it but I wouldn't pay over the going rate for any player.

No way back now, the player has said what he's said, its just a case of agreeing a fee i'd assume.

Said Berahino 3 years ago yet he's still scratching his arse on the bench at West Brom.

Didnt Sporting let Carillo rot in their reserves?

Yeah, and Benfica got him this summer after his contract ended for a huge signing bonus + salary. In my opinion, just to stick it up to SCP. Let's see how that goes.

Not sure how well that would play out this time.

Club captain frozen out, large influx of new players. That doesn't sound too great does it.

Can never understand why clubs even consider doing this, what purpose does it serve? Angry player unlikely to play well, disrupts the dressing room, dosn't look good for future players who may want to leave at some point to progress their careers at a different club, lose a fair chunk of money that could buy players who want to be at the club. Seems like there are no positives.

Yeah I get that, and not the same situation but it's probably not as easy as just agreeing a fee.

It shows the club won't be held to ransom, pay the fee or you don't get the player.

Will we bid £35m for him? Doubt it.

Carrillo didn't accept any bid for his transfer. That's a very long story but there was a very long back and forth between SCP and his agent, and it seemed like his agent was completely messing with SCP. The bid by LCFC for example was turned down by the player, not the club, as far as I know. We wanted to sell him because of the dressing room disruption, but he was getting payed and saw a fat signing bonus at the end of one year so he took that route.

Clubs have to tread a fine line of not being push overs in the transfer market but also at the same time maintaining a good image for future potential players. No player is going to sign for a club that they feel will hinder and actively stop their career progression. It's why clubs like Ajax are so successful, they have a long history of acquiring exceptional talent knowing full well they will move on in 2-3 years time but understanding that as long as they are paid a fair amount it works best for all parties.

Sporting need to be careful, they are alongside clubs such as Ajax, Anderlecht etc which whilst big clubs in their own right are with all due respect stepping stones for the bigger leagues in England, Spain etc.

I think I speak for a lot of Sporting fans when I say I know where we stand. We're proud of our academy and we want to create great players and see them thrive.

We however also demand some respect (especially from our players). We want to win the Portuguese League and that's not easy when a key player says "k, bye!" 2 days before the transfer deadline. That's impossible to cope with if you really aspire to be a champion (and we do, we've invested a lot in it and this could **** it up, hence the outrage).

Of course I don't really think this has anything to do with LCFC except if there was some foul play like contacting the player before the club, but we're both interested parties so that's why I'm here chatting with you guys ;).

Adrien's agent: "President has a position contrary to the commitments he had made"

Basically another player-club hostage situation.

Adrien and his agent will force a move.

I'm convinced we will get him. Otherwise Adrien himself would have come out and nipped this in the bud, but instead his agent has come out and doubled down on his initial statement.

Fair point. At the very least, Adrien must think there is a decent chance.

Of course I understand the views of the Sporting fans, however we do not know how long these conversations for the players have been going on for and €50+ million for 2 players is not an unfair offer. This has clearly been on the cards for a while and it seems obvious to me that Silva has decided to make it public to try and force a move as Sporting don't want to sell him despite a very fair offer and the opportunity to further his career at a higher level.

Ah fair enough didn't know that much, im talking more about situations in which players are denied moves by there clubs then get no first team football until there contract expires. Guess Berahino is a better example of it as he is out of contract next summer yet his progress has stalled massively and there has been no benefit to the club as they wont be getting any money from it. They were offered £20 million for him yet still held out for £30 million. Fair enough if he had had a 15-20 goal season but he had only scored 7 in all comps. Should cut there losses but I dont own a premier league club so I don't really know much.

Understand that completely, something similar happened this summer when Kante left us who won the league for Chelsea who finished 10th, fair enough Chelsea are most likely going to be more competitive then us in the future but one more year would have been appreciated, especially when we are in the champions league and they aren't.

Could only imagine the outrage if say Mahrez or Vardy had pushed for a move tomorrow after being quite all summer, hell Vardy got plently of abuse because Arsenal activated his release clause when he was on England duty.

There, you nailed it. That's exactly our problem.

We sold João Mário (and will probably sell Slimani to you) and had/have no problem with it. The difference is that we knew they were leaving. Adrien was silent up until this morning. That's kind of a kick in the nuts.

E: I'm still convinced Adrien might leave, but the biggest barrier to the transfer is (besides the fee) our coach. Jesus won't let Adrien leave without a fight, that's for sure. It'd probably be a "him or me" situation.

Hopefully the club have know about it for sometime and are getting a replacement in and he has gone public to try and push his deal through. Can't blame Sporting Portugal for keeping hold of him otherwise.

Have to say I really feel for Sporting in this situation.

It was agony for us with Vardy, Mahrez and Kante all summer and we kept 2 and sold the third with months to sign a replacement.

Still hope we sign both Adrien and Slimani though!
