Chilwell

It must be so tough not playing competitively and then just being chucked in, especially against a top side.

He could've done with Schlupp playing in front of him just for extra defensive support as I thought Chilwell was good going forward.

No idea why, but I read that as Gareth Barry and sat there for 5 seconds trying to work out the joke.

Tough night for Chilwell, but he'll learn much more from that than he would 50 U23 games. He's very good on the ball, and his positioning isn't too bad considering his age and inexperience. He got muscled out of challenges a few times, but once he's grown a bit and filled out, I think the defensive side will improve.

Definitely no point writing him off or getting angry at him for having a poor game- he was nowhere near the worst player in blue last night.

First time he's looked anything other than solid and assured. He was very good against Hull and Spurs last season and looked our best player against Celtic I thought in preseason. Tonight he was average. When's he going to get more chances though? We're out of the one platform he'd get a handle in, likewise Kaputska. I hope Schlupp is banned from the club and these two at least get the odd chance to improve.

Should of shipped Schlupp out to West Brom if the asking price was anything close to what was suggested and used the excess cash to give SCP what they wanted for Adrien Silva.

Not often I'll slate our recruitment policy but we have dropped a bollock there, I'm quite sure most people are aware I'm not Jeffry's biggest fan but even those who rate him most now realize he is surplus to requirements, we have ample options on the wing and very little serious competition in the heart of our midfield.

As for Chillwell he's had better games but is still learning, I think people are being a bit harsh on the OP he hardly laid in to the lad just made a factual statement.

He seemed to improve as the game went on and probably lasted the pace as well as anyone.  He's just raw and the only way he can get the right experience is to play against the kind of opponent Chelsea provided because they don't come that much tougher  in the Premiership than Moses, in terms of experienced and threatening wing play.

The first 25 minutes he was a little boy lost at times both in terms of his tackling and positioning.

Later, as Moses lost a bit of momentum and Chilwell improved some aspects of his decision-making the Leicester lad contained the Chelsea man much more soundly and tried his best to remain constructive in possession for all that he was still untidy at times.

He wasn't our worse performer taken as a whole although there were moments when he seemed to be making a case, along with a good many of his team-mates.

I drew no lasting conclusions from what he did. An extended version of "Two good, Two bad" would probably have reflected his efforts but we were decidedly and understandably ragged in the end and I was pleased to see him as one of the last men standing by the final whistle.

I'd have given him 6/10 in the difficult circumstances. which wouldn't make him mug-of-the-match by a distance.

he has a lot of potential hence why liverpool and arsenal were interested in signing him, just needs game time and coaching in the right way. eventually he will take over from fuchs and he  needs to watch and learn from him in training and in games

There was nothing that suggested to me that he won't ever make it as a left back for us last night.

There were times when his decision making was questionable but that's bound to happen. The lad isn't experienced like Fuchs.

He also got done for pace and strength but Moses has made a living from being a pretty dire footballer but with strength and pace (think Jeff Schlupp).

I'm glad he didn't shy away at any stage. I've still got high hopes for the lad.

Should have got another left back in and let Chilwell go out for another year instead of letting him rot on our bench. Clearly hugely talented for what I've seen of him in the last year. Huddersfield loved him too and tbf it's a shame he'd not gone back there this Summer, he'd have been flying. Next few months will be quite difficult for him I presume but hopefully he knuckles down and continues to work.

Chilwell looks decent on the ball and can actually play, but he made Moses look world class last night. Moses had him on toast all night. He's 19 so he will learn.

I agree with Manwell Pablo regarding Schlupp. He is brainless and will never grow a brain. We definitely dropped a bollock if WBA really offered over £10m for him. He's only 23 so we can still sell him for £10m ish in this crazy market. He is surplus to requirement here.

If only we could sell some of the contributors on here....

Why, because we saw a very poor performance in Chilwell last night and are saying so on a forum football.

Get real mate...

I very much agree with these sentiments Mr Pablo.

Why they kept Schlupp when £12m was on the table is one of those mind boggling mysteries of the universe. The sooner he's shipped out the better, and I'm surprised he has game time when we have a polish international in Kaputska (scoring goals at international level I add) not getting a look in.

Once he has experience at this level and hits the gym he's going to be a very tidy player.

Not going to knock the lad for lacking positional nouse and getting out-muscled by that massive guy. He looked confident on the ball and seemed to have decent awareness when in possession. Give me a player that looks a decent footballer but isn't an athlete rather than the other way round. Unless i'm playing fifa, then all I want is 11 athletes on the pitch.

I have absolutely no idea what point you're making.

My point is that some people show themselves up as being deeply unpleasant in how they write. Haven't got an issue with valid criticism, but I do find mindless kneejerk hatred pretty foul.

I can't help but think it would of benefitted chillwells development more to be consistently playing 1st team football. It's  a catch 22 situation really... He's a very able deputy but would he of benefitted more from a loan move?

Looked decent going forward but defensively weak. He's still young, has no real experience in the first team and has played one of the best sides in the league. I hope he does knuckle down now and improves his game because he is a talented lad. Would like to see more of him tbh. Get his confidence up and he might well shine.
