foxes21 Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Should have signed a LB & loaned Chilwell out to the champ to play regularly. If we did that, he could return in a couple years to replace Fuchs when he goes to America. It would have been ideal for all parties imo. However, that didn't happen. The lad's gonna get more chances this season, tonight was a good experience and he will improve with each game he plays.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 He isn't going to start is he because we have the best left back in the league.
AKCJ Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 The lad got next to no help all game. Last twenty minutes he was sharing the left flank with Leo Ulloa ffs.
Spicer Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 What is important now is that he learns from this and improves because of it. He wasn't awful but Moses certainly had the best of him.
stevelcfc Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Christ, he's 19 and yet to make his PL debut, what do you expect? He's not going to be Roberto Carlos is he? He a a solid game, got very little protection, of course there were plenty of errors too but he'll work on them and improve. He's not going to do that without experience though.
DB11 Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I thought he was way out of his depth tonight. The amount of time Morgan and Wasyl had to shout at him because of his positioning was too much. And he loved bombing it on and exposing us down the flank erm that's not our tactics to have an attacking full back how's about concentrate on defending (not that he did that well either) I'm sure he'll come good but we've not got the luxury to give him that time he needs in the starting X
lee7 Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Got beaten too easy throughout the game and at times jumped in when it would've been better to stand off his man. He'll learn though. Looked better going forwards and had a decent opponent tonight in Moses. It was a good test for him and it just shows he's still not quite ready.
Jakemoore Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I was thoroughly disappointed with Ben tonight. I was so looking forward to seeing him play against a decent winger like Moses but tonight showed that he has a lot to learn. Moses should have had a field day as Chilwell was that poor. Still, I've seen him play very well before now so I'm sure he will bounce back!

The last I heard his agent was trying to blag him 20k a week...I've seen nothing from him to warrant 20k a week. That isn't a critiscm of him, but more the club for letting that happen. He made two apperances last season in the cup, granted against Spurs (we were all shit) and he was the one shining light I guess, but that's about it. Somebody must rate him quite highly, and I think he will be very decent player, just don't think a deal like that is good for a lad of 19/20. I think the reference somebody made to Mattock earlier was more trying to say that he could just fade away, too much too young if you like. if he'd have gone to Liverpool I think that would of done him more harm than good. Just hope he does't start thinking he's worth more and throws his toys out of the pram because he's not getting game time. Of course this is all speculation, he could be on 20p for all I know, you're quite right, nobody knows. Just find it interesting.
tyfox Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Got took apart all game tonight but it's a learning curve and if he learns from it then that's something to hold on to
adejo92 Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Whilst i don't particularly rate Chilwells performance tonight, i don't think he can be slated too much. "Not ready for first team"........no sh!t sherlock, if he was he would be playing instead of Fuchs. He's learning still and no amount of games in U23's or reserves can prepare for a strong Chelsea team. He was no worse than anyone else on that pitch...infact he was better than some, not mentioning any names * cough * Schlupp * cough *
The Doctor Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Looked fine for a reasonable amount of normal time (forget extra time, everyone had essentially given up when the red came out). Struggled a bit with Moses at times, but he had Schlupp for protection, even when he's having a good game he's not a reliable contributor to the defence. Obviously not ready to take Fuchs place, but anyone who thought he would be is of their rocker - he's a kid and Fuchs is one of the best left-backs in the league.
lcfcben76 Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Saw this thread near the top and thought it might be people praising him, didn't think he did loads wrong in truth
Nick Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I'm not a Chilwell fan in all honesty but I believe in giving him time. A few seasons ago I wasn't a Morgan fan but back fours need time to gel and left backs need to form a healthy understanding of those in front of them, especially if they like playing the ball at their feet and getting forward. Not going to write off Ben yet he's obviously a great prospect needing game time and coaching but he's not ready for the first team yet and tonight cements that - especially after some of his preseason performances.
STUHILL Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 I am surprised at the amount of criticism he is getting. Granted, he struggled, but he had very little help and was often left one on one with some very talented Chelsea players. Thought he looked ok in possession and I think at 19, he has the potential to be a decent LB in the Prem. Clearly needs to play more but it's difficult to be a back-up LB as you can spend most your time on the bench, not good enough to start but also too good or important to be loaned out. I think he would perform fine against some of the lower Premiership teams but I will be thankful that Fuchs is back for the weekend. I don't think he should be loaned out yet. Play him in the FA cup ties and use him when possible in the Prem. He will only get better and could become our regular starting LB within a couple of seasons.
Lambert09 Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 People are quick to forget we started in the premier league with Delaet and Konchesky. He could have been a lot worse, personally I'm glad he had a bad game. You learn much more from a bad game then a good one. He appears to think very highly of himself, rightly so but this will take him back to reality and will put him in good stead for the next opportunity

I've never understood the logic that Player x was shit but we've had worse in the past. So what? Player x was still shit. Chilwell was awful defensively last night. On that performance he hasn't improved at all from last seasons outing against Spurs. You.can clearly see why Fuchs is still first-choice. Could he realm have been a lot worse?
Kinowe Soorie Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 Pretty sure he didn't win a tackle all night, made one block after King ballsed up. A kid? 19 in footballing terms isn't young. He gets turned far too easily for me.
Dickov22 Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 Lovely footballer but defensively not up to it yet. Position wise he was all over the place.
CosbehFox Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 He played like a footballer what needs time on the pitch. Too eager to nick the ball straight off his winger and needs to learn some positional craft.
Bamba's Babes Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 An ok game. Seen him play better. Undoubted class. What's the worry?
foxinsocks Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 He seemed to get more forceful after vardy came on.... maybe he was given a message
Foxes1 Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 Perhaps we should have sold him in the summer to Liverpool and took the money and ran. Then we would have had people moaning about selling one of our best prospects. You just can't win sometimes.
HighPeakFox Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 If only we could sell some of the contributors on here....

No idea why, but I read that as Gareth Barry and sat there for 5 seconds trying to work out the joke. Tough night for Chilwell, but he'll learn much more from that than he would 50 U23 games. He's very good on the ball, and his positioning isn't too bad considering his age and inexperience. He got muscled out of challenges a few times, but once he's grown a bit and filled out, I think the defensive side will improve. Definitely no point writing him off or getting angry at him for having a poor game- he was nowhere near the worst player in blue last night.
