Frank Lampard?

Premier League champions Leicester have been cut into 8/1 by SkyBet to sign former Chelsea star Frank Lampard.

The 38-year-old midfielder is available on a free transfer after leaving MLS side New York City, following the expiration of his contract.

SkyBet have made Leicester new fourth favourites in the race to sign the former England international, with Crystal Palace out in front at Evens, West Ham United at 11/2 and Chelsea listed third at 7/1

Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri is obviously a big fan of the midfielder - the 38-year-old was the Italian's first signing when he was Chelsea boss in 2001.

Whether Lampard, at his age, could still do a job in the Premier League is debatable, but he would be worth signing just for the experience and know-how he would bring to the dressing room.

His goalscoring record form midfield is second to none, with 271 goals in 904 career appearances.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, there will surely be a handful of clubs who would love to have Lampard in their squad for the second half of the season.

Could Ranieri make a move for his former player and provide his side with a much needed boost?

he has lots of experience and quality but at 38 years old would only offer guidance to the young players and not much else would he be like a Cambiasso type figure for the club offering his wealth of experience, would need a lot of young players around him who would do all the running while he sprays passes around

he's still at 33/1 with paddy power. just tried to stick £10 on it, but apparently the max stake they will allow on it is £8.41. is that common practice? never heard of that before

I thought you could sign free agents anytime. Anyone know the ruling.

If Football Manager has taught me anything, its that the official end date of the MLS season (or at least contracts) is the end of December. So its likely that although NYCFC have no more games, he's probably still technically under contract for the rest of the calendar year. Hence the rumored January signing date

Only if he became a free agent before the last transfer window ended

you can sign them, but whether they can play in the Premier League until they have been registered is a different matter. Think they can play in other competitions but not the Premier League. Or if we have space in the 25-man squad then they can be added.

I'd be trying to get him in as a player coach, mainly the coaching part as he'd be massive for our young mindfielder ie Amartey and Ndidi if we bag him, I imagine he'd have a similar effect on them as super Kev had with our strikers

Says here that he's keen to get into coaching: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37769929

I'd forgotten that it was Claudio who actually signed him for Chelsea from West Ham, so if they still have a positive view of one another, who knows.....

He strikes me as someone who could make a good coach/manager.

Seems quite balanced. Intelligent and articulate without being pretentious, self-confident without being arrogant, comes across as a strong, grounded character.

If he's serious about getting into coaching, LCFC could be a good opportunity for him (particularly with our midfield problems).

Would seem a good option as a coach and experienced squad player to come off the bench.

He would not be able to cope with the pace of the Prem anymore. I can see why the link, as he is always full of admiration for Claudio, but I highly doubt it. 2 years ago maybe! Can see Claudio maybe raiding Chelsea for a loan player though, Mikel or Loftus-Cheek for 6 months perhaps

Well, we need an extra Coach - Walshie did a bit of that, as well as the Scouting stuff - and his replacement (that Spanish guy, whose name I've forgotten) doesn't - he's not even in the UK much from what I've been told.  Bring Frankie in as a Player / Coach - simples !

I thought the whole point of bosman ruling was to ensure a player can always find work when not under contract.

What sort of age would you find acceptable for a coach?
