At least gray is good on the ball and goes past is man we need more players like gray because we look so much like we are lacking any creativity he and marhez are the only players that look comfortable with the ball every 1 else acts like the football is a hot potatoe

He has plenty of confidence and as he develops with more game time hopefully he decision making will improve.

Thracian Posted 23 January 2017 Posted 23 January 2017 I've not noticed a lot of improvement in the time he's been here and, as a coach, I'd be wondering why. But then I wonder why about the progression of a lot of our players and have commented on it since long before Gray was on the scene. As for my attitude to young players most of the criticism I've received on here concerns my having more too much faith in them rather than not enough. As a coach, even my fiercest critic would never accuse me of not giving youth a chance. I can't speak for Gray because I don't know the boy and I didn't know Messi either. But I'm not even sure I'd have signed Gray in the first place. That's not because I don't appreciate his ability. There's barely a day in one sport or another I don't see people with ability. Unfortunately history is full of people who don't make the best of it and that's the impression I've gleaned of Gray so far. The Southampton game was just another example. Yes, he had some runs and carved out our best chance to score for himself. But what did he supply for his team-mates as a winger? Nothing of consequence that I can remember. Vardy had perhaps one half chance all game and was otherwise starved of opportunities by Gray and everyone else. A winger's job is to make or score goals, it's that simple in basic terms. Gray's shown signs of being able to do both in the past but it's an increasingly distant memory and if that's the "progress" your talking about I'm not convinced he's heading the right way at Leicester. Pulis might be the sort to help him. Because there's a bloke who won't take nonsense off anyone...and he'll demand 90 minutes off everyone as a minimum. the same as I would.

AKCJ Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 If he could shoot and if he had a 'footballers brain' where he makes the right decisions more often than not he'd be a world beater. He made an immediate impact when he came on last night. Went quiet for a while but when he and Mahrez got the ball Prideless Park fell silent. They're game changers and we need to have them performing for the second half of the season.

Max Wall Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 Gray has been selfish but that may well have been brought on by his situation. He's had to watch dross from the sidelines most of the season whilst only getting the odd chance. When he gets game time, starting or sub, he must be desperate to make an impact. At times, had it not been for Gray, we would have looked even more toothless in attack, which is pretty difficult. I have quite a bit of sympathy for the bloke.

This lad is a real prospect and if handled in the right way could become a great footballer one we need to keep hold of and be nurtured by Claudio and the senior players !
Max Power Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 Needs a long run in the team. He's a great talent. Far from the finished article and his decision making is quite poor at the moment but has a spark that our dire team desperately needs.
Thracian Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 Gray just confirmed my thoughts about him yesterday. He did okay to a point and, one again, his corners seemed quite dangerous. He had a terrific chance to score and I'll give credit to him for hitting the target for all that he really should have scored. On the minus side he should never have been dribbling and being caught in possession when he almost allowed Derby to score. Thankfully, that should be an easy problem to correct. It's junior school stuff that you don't dribble in no-man's land or in your own half. But he needs a reminder.

The dilemma is how much nurturing to commit too. We all know footballers tend to be preening fannies these days. That's the World we live in. The whirlpool of money has created that. We do need to nurture him but he also has to respond in the correct fashion. Then we may well have a great footballer on our hands in time. Unfortuately, the disease that is agents play a huge part in todays players acting like tits at times. I know nothing personally about him but they have been whispers that he has been a bit silly on social media, if that's the case he will hopefully grow up a little too.

You never played football then. Team sport, if someone has a better chance than you, give them the ball no matter how bad they are.
