rmahrez Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 To me a legend is someone that 25 years on, people will still talk about. Got to agree with those that say Kasper, Morgan, King, Mahrez and Vardy are the current legends. Kasper, Morgan and King have been leaders within the squad for years now and have contributed immensely to the club's meteoric rise. Not only that, they've constantly bettered themselves and been model professionals the whole time they've been here. Mahrez and Vardy have to be legends for last season's contribution alone. Never mind the tiny transfer fees, and their impact on promotion/staying up, some of the moments they provided us last season will live with fans forever - Vardy vs Man Utd, Vardy vs Liverpool and Mahrez vs Man City are all goals which will go down in history. 24/17 goals firing us to the title can only add to their claims as well. Adding to the fact that these are two Leicester which players have been voted in the top 8 players in the world, completely unprecedented, these two will always be legends in my eyes.
katieakita Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 On the other end of the spectrum I would also add Gary Coatsworth, was he a good player no, did he play many games for us no, did he play in the premier league for us no, He played around 30 games in 3 years So why do i consider him a City legend? Before the play off game against the sheep it was clear an injury would force him to quit the game so he had 1 shot at in a final game at Wembley to get us into the premiership after 2 previous failed attempts and in a makeshift side and didn't we struggle to overcome Tranmere in the semis and he helped us beat our friends up the road with not the greatest assist in Leicester City history but undoubtedly the highest and to boot for those at Filbo who witnessed it one of the hardest hit shots ever to hit the back of the net for us and a goal that was met by stunned silence by City fans. Shocked by the quality of the strike but more shocked by who hit it.

The word 'legendary' suggests someone whose name makes grown men watery-eyed. A name that evokes memories of great moments in the club's history. You just know if a player is a legend or not. Gary Parker is a Leicester legend. Gary McAllister is not, despite being a superb footballer.
matty98 Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 A legend to me is a player who will always be remembered in the clubs history and only in a positive way.
Barky Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Kante will go down as a big part of a legendary team for me, but his hasty exit and lack of love for the club prevents him from going down as an individual Leicester legend. There's all sorts of different types of legends though and within the list of legends there is a further hierarchy where some legends are more legendary than others. If you used the football manager classification of icons preceding legends then Kante would be an icon.

I've never played FM so I didn't know icons preceded legends either. It was so much simpler back in the day - you were either a club legend or you weren't!
Guest Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Leo is a good question. Maybe not legend, but cult classic? He's definitely had some classic moments.

On the right track here ... The title winners are perhaps 'The invincibles' or whatever you want to call them but I'm sure many will become legends in time (maybe Wes is there already and others like JV very close) ... And for me, but I know others will definitely disagree Cambo is a legend .... He was an absolute pleasure to watch, gave so much back and just put a smile on my face .... A footballing great. Kante however may have been one of the best players in a Leicester shirt and one of the invincibles but in my eyes will NEVER be a legend.
Harry - LCFC Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Any player who played even a reasonably significant part in the 15/16 season has earned the status of Leicester City legend in my view. It was the greatest achievement by any club in English football so you'd have to put up a damn good argument to justify not giving any of them that label. 5 minutes ago, Countryfox said: On the right track here ... sylofox Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 I cant believe no one has said The Birch. Has anyone devoted so much time to our club.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think the term 'legend' is vastly overused and thrown around like confetti these days - as are the terms 'world class' or 'great'. I guess there'll never be a definitive answer or definition as to what determines a 'legend' but it's fun to debate none the less.... Good idea for the thread. Just to see the various traits, ideas, thoughts and opinions on the subject... Plus the players put forward. Its all down to the individual fan..not 2 will agree on the 1st 10. IMO though my era as young supporter,My legends Were players from GCross/Banks/Shilton D.Gibson/Weller..to Then Elliot,Lennon, izzet, were Not changed To also rans, because the creation of new ones. Memories and creation of Special moments, are parts that define a legend because its what individual or team success stays in Ones minds eye. One fans call doesnt belittle, begrudge, demean other fans choices of person or the whys and reasons. The Pl title created its own, just has much as the O'Neils, Gillies etc eras Spurned out their own. The name Kante, may deliver a one season legend, just as rightly heralded as any other who spent or will spend more seasons in Leicesters colours, because the fans memories and opinions and how they travel through to other future eras, will determin that Legend.

That's an interesting and different spin on it. What's the difference between a club legend and a cult classic/hero then I wonder? I could reel off dozens of cult heroes in my time as a fan, but they're not club legends in my eyes. For example, I'd maybe put Cambiasso in the 'cult hero' bracket for his brief cameo role here, but definitely not Leicester City club legend status for me...
Samilktray Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 50 years from now I'll be telling my grandkids about Cambiasso's lovely bald head still I reckon

I guess he played in a shite team though, where as Parker will be remembered for his role in the successful MON era. So memories of great moments and actually winning something must play its part in legendary status then I guess...

I don't think it's because he was a part of that team, it is that he played such a big individual part in some of our greatest moment. Parker scored a penalty in the 96 playoff final and set up goals in the semi and the final of the 97 League Cup. Legendary moments create legendary players.

Webbo Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 In 25 years time, when they're having an anniversary celebration dinner, I wonder if they'll all turn up? Maybe Kante and possibly Mahrez will have gone on to greater things, some of them will have moved back to their own countries. I'd like to think most of them would turn up.
chapero82 Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 I loved Kante when he was here but the way he acted e.g going and speaks to Conte before we even accepted a bid isn't really a nice thing to do! Yes he's gone to a bigger club with better players like he has said but I still think it would have been great to see him in the champions league with us

I love @Worthington's definition of a true legend - sums it up perfectly for me. Hence why I struggle to give Kante or Cambiasso that status. And I also agree on the Shilton point. It's a bit like Gary Parker not quite being a true Leicester legend for me because of his time at Forest and Villa.
nnfox Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Any player, coach or staff member who played/worked for us and then, ten years after leaving is still spoken about fondly having achieved success/went on to enhabce the reputation of the club can be considered a legend imo. For that reason, the following players can be considered legends: Gary Lineker Muzzy Izzet Martin O'Neill Neil Lennon Emile Heskey Frank Worthington Arthur Rowley Gordon Banks Matt Elliott Steve Walsh (Jnr) Peter Shilton Kieth Weller Alan Birchenall None of the current or recent squad have achieved legend status yet but the following will, I'm sure: Kasper Simpson Huth Morgan Fuchs Drinkwater King Albrighton Mahrez Vardy Claudio Ranieri Kante? Ulloa? Okazaki? If we didn't win the league then I think Cambiasso would be in with a chance but his achievements were surpassed very quickly after he left so it is unlikely. Same goes for Pearson.
