The question? its about making our selfs look stupid in the chant that's stated. Its like a group of people living in Blackpool going to Paris and singing "a tower in your city, you'll never have that" It wasn't. I was just wondering why so many people do, so wondered if that could be added in to the poll. If all people have to worry about in their lives is thinking what other fans are going to think about us after a chant then I wouldn't mind having their life, obviously have nothing else to worry them.
sylofox Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 silly song to sing to anyone that's won it. my reply would be we've won it x times. You'll never sing that. But I do think we should only sing. Champions of England. We know what we are. None stop no other songs and all through H/T Against the sheep. Even to the point we don't even cheer when we score. Let's turn them green an make them spew
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 If there is a record of a club being Champions of England, whenever it may be, 'you'll never sing that' shouldn't be sang in my opinion. After this season we should sing 'Champions of England, 5000 to 1.' I first read the lyrics to that a while back and it's fitting. Although in May and in future campaigns we may not be the champions of English football, we should still sing about our season.
SemperEadem Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Its not worrying about what we sing or being song police it's about having some pride in what we sing.

Some people just don't spend their lives on social media and don't care what other fans think about them. You've not been on Foxestalk long enough then. Plenty of them about.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 I love it, it's hilarious and rattles literally every club that won it pre war.

NewEnglandFox Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Derby has made a lot of you self-conscious. I think we've had 8 league and one cup game on TV. Out of those opponents only Hull haven't won the league and Champions of England has been sung pretty much every game. Obviously there were some grumbles earlier in the season when we were getting blown out by the top 4 but it took a midtable championship side who finds a new way to avoid promotion every year to embarrass some of you. Sing the song. We earned it.

Getting it ringing out in the KP and away from home. We can still be proud of the season and players hearing it might just increase their pride in wearing the shirt.

China Black Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 It is stupid to sing that to clubs who have actually been Champions of England at some point in their history.

Really sums us up as a fun loving club who are ecstatic about our amazing achievement and can truly revel in being called the current champions as long as possible, but at the same time know it may be our only time to sing it (in the near future). Hate why we have to have the "you'll never sing that" bollocks - a year ago, that would be us (although we were on our way to rectifying it). Let's sing songs about our own club, not other clubs - unless it's stuff like 2 nil and you ****ed it up type stuff. Steve Walsh under twin towers vs Derby songs are ok. As are having the wings of a sparrow and the arse of a cow...
Staffs Fox Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Personally I've always preferred chants which solely focus on supporting our own team, I couldn't give a monkeys who we're playing or whether they've been successful in the past or not, I dislike this chant, the one we're still singing about Spurs (and I hate Spurs) because it just makes or seem obsessed about how other teams see us and having a dig. I think it stems from deep rooted issue I've had since the 99 League Cup final. I was sat about 15 yards from the Spurs fans and the abuse I got when Nielsen scored as a 12 year old was ridiculous. I remember thinking then even as a lad 'shouldn't you be focusing on celebrating your own teams victory rather than hurling abuse at a rival fan?' Didn't make sense to me then and still doesn't now 'We are the Champions, Champions of England' is great, the Euro tour is good as well as the classics.

Max Power Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Its rubbish and doesnt make sense. Plenty of other songs we could sing about last season without being incorrect.
Captain... Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Grammar lesson: You will is the future tense. To say "you will", "you won't", "you will never" is talking specifically about the future. Nobody is saying "You've never sung that", the chant is "You will never sing that" future. The second other part of the song is "Champions of England", in the context it is clear that we as the current champions we are saying, "We are the current champions" not past champions, or one time title winners, we are the current title holders. Only one team can sing that, to then say "you will never sing that" is to say that you and every other fan of said team will be dead or at least incapable of singing by the time that team next wins the title. Seems fine to me, barring the obvious inability of fans to accurately predict the future. We are the current champions of England, enjoy it because after May we will never sing that again.
lcfcsnow Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 I'm proud to say I have never sang to the tune of Sloop John B at any football match, and never will.
Corky Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Not everyone will know the history of league football but just have a quick look before we play someone to find out, then adapt it if you want. Surely the best songs are the ones with no real response?

Guest Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Personally think it's a bad idea but telling someone, or a group of people, that something is a bad idea doesn't necessarily stop em.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Did Iwan live next door to Joachim? Was Steve Walsh really every-fvcking-where? Are we (as others have said) really by far the greatest team the world has ever seen? A large proportion of chants are bvllshit, a lot of them are about slagging off or antagonising other teams. I'd sing this to small clubs, I'd also sing it to the likes of Liverpool to piss them off (as many of their fans would be too young to remember a top flight win and we would be laughing at the chance of them ever doing so; while they have Mognolet and the other clown in goal, we are probably on safe ground).

I on the other hand EXCLUSIVELY sing all songs to the tune of Sloop John B. Even non-City songs. National Anthem? "She's one of our own, she's one of our owwwwn, Queen of England, she's one of our own". Check. That song from Frozen? "Just let it go, just let it goooooooooo-a-ohhh, that song from Frozen, just let it goooo". Check 8 minutes ago, Sooper Steve's shin said: Did Iwan live next door to Joachim? Yes, yes, and hell yes! Actually, I think you'll find that each of those songs ends with the word "fact". Seems to work on this forum, when someone wants to make an opinion or an analogy into an evidence based event.
