The Future is bright

I know this has been mentioned a lot recently but I wanted to bring up the point of what team we could have and how we're building for the future.

In a few years time this could potentially be our team

                            Lawrence

           Gray                                   Kapustka

                             Barnes

                    Mendy        Ndidi

Chilwell         NEW CB   NEW CB         Amartey

                            Iverson

Yes it's likely going to look quite a bit different to that but on paper we're well set....

I think Amartey's future might be at CB to be honest. I've harped on about it before but I do think we should go in for Trippier at Spurs for the right-back slot.

I do hope we can keep Gray, Chilwell and Kapustka for a few years as well.

Iversen is an interesting one. Isn't there another younger keeper who's quite highly thought of? We may have good depth in that position.

I've not seen enough of Barnes to comment. Lawrence's development at Ipswich seems to be going extremely well. It remains to be seen whether he can step up though. Zlowly zlowly.

Let's hope Macia has some tricks up his sleeve in the transfer market as well.

Seen nothing to suggest Amartey is a full back. Certainly not going on last nights game - he wasn't exactly under pressure like he would be in most Premier League games.

Not keen on Lawrence up front either.

I'll be honest I can't see many of them progressing to our first team.

Obviously Amartey, Mendi, Ndidi, Chilwell and Gray are already there and i'm calling for Lawrence to be recalled even if its just to create abit more competition.

But the way they're are being used (Or not, more to the point) I can see Gray and Kapustka getting pissed off and wanting to move, I can see a similar situation happening with Lawrence.

I don't really see Mendi working out.

Not seen much of Barnes but not sure I see him breaking through, same goes for Iverson certainly not as a no.1.

We have no recall option for Lawrence. The only way he comes back is if he is injured. Ipswich are not liable to return him while hes playing like he is.

Very happy with our younger signings over last couple of seasons.

Wasn't impressed at all with Mendy last night but he has played a ton of games in France and is still only 24, so I have hope he can still be a decent player for us,

Really wish we had got Keane in the summer when we had the chance. Him and Amartey could have been our starting CB's for years to come

People saying we will struggle to hold onto them, I am not so sure. If we stay in the Premier League and have them tied down to long-term contracts, with NO release clauses, more and more clubs are able to say no to having their best players cherry picked by the bigger clubs.

Hope we sign a top young CB in the Summer and also a top young striker, then we would have a backbone full of young talent.

People are going a bit overboard. Chilwell, Gray and N'Didi look like they're going to cut it as top half Prem players but I've not really seen anything (or seen enough in Barnes' case) to suggest that they're going to be in the side even in a few years.

Mendy is awful. We made some bad signings in the summer but he is the worst by far. He's very slow, gets caught in posession way too often, always makes a sidewards or backwards pass and never seems to want the ball. He just seems to be a spectator on the pitch..Does a lot of ball watching without any real intention of doing something positive when he gets it.

Very nice! Should be with us for pre-season and given a fair chance.

He's the only midfielder I've seen to actually want the ball? He was always offering against Derby and unlike Drinkwater dosent hoof it forward aimlessly and keeps things ticking over.

He looks like a fantastic prospect....If he played for some second division French club we would be probably be offering about 15 million for him!!

Played FOUR times for us in the league. Total of 7 appearances!

Can we please learn from previous experiences, not to write a player off so quickly.

I thought he was pantz yesterday too, but he is only 24 and played over 200 times for Monaco and Nice, so there must be something there.

If he was born in England he'd cost double that

You must be seeing a different player to me then. I agree that Drinkwater has been doggo. We seemed to tick over a lot better when N'Didi came on for Mendy in ET...Now the sky is the limit with that lad. Reminds me of a young Yaya.

Believe me i'm never one to write a player off quickly, I always normally give players the benefit of the doubt but I just genuinely can't see him being a regular or big player for us. I'd love to be wrong but I really just dont have a good feeling about him

I wonder how much of that is still down to psychological issues, e.g. Mendy still hampered by his recent injury spell and the subsequent return to fitness, resulting in a more cautious approach. Seems to me he's got some sort of mental blockade, playing as if he had the handbrake on.
