Koke Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Can't think of a better side, bar maybe Chelsea in 2014/15. The gulf in class was enormous. Can't think of another game where the opposition outclassed us so much.
Swarles Barkley Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Arsenal at home last year. They tore us to pieces
Collymore Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 I personally think Porto were better. Ironically a 1-0 home win like we did against Porto would see us progress.
filbertway Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Would have been interesting to see them actually trying against us. It just felt like they were toying with us at about 80% the whole game.
lee7 Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Porto in either game were better than Sevilla last night. Strangely Sevilla did not really seem to fussed about killing the tie off.
Blue ROI Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 As bad as we were in the first half and a continuation of the recent terrible form you had to admire Sevilla's play. Even Leicester of last year would have struggled at times. Despite the enormous gulf in class for most of it Gray was bearing down on goal for a possible 2-2. All in all though had we been 3-0 down at half time it wouldnt have flattered Sevilla. Whatever happens at the return leg would be delighted for them to win La Liga.

Can't remember another game where the opposition outclassed us so much. I'd say we've made many a side look very good this season, Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Porto. Sevilla didn't actually create that many clear cut chances. Shots from range which didn't overly concern Kasper, the goals and the penalty and they hit the post, aside from that they didn't really get that close did they? They were actually reasonably clinical with the good chances that came their way, they switched off for our goal as if they weren't expecting us to threaten them. They held the ball brilliantly but that's La Liga football. Ultimately the final result is not one they will be overly happy with...... I think there are several Prem teams that would put them to the sword over 2 legs personally. We were utter garbage and yet are still in the tie.
lcfcben76 Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Arsenal at home last year that was an Alexis Sanchez masterclass. Have to say Chelsea this year and 14/15 as well at home.
foxy boxing Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 I'm not sure Sevilla played to their full potential and feel they could have stepped it up a gear if they had wanted.they clearly thought we were going to be pushovers. we clearly surprised them that second half. on paper they are the best side we've faced having won the Europa league three years running.
everton carr Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Amazing to think there Wage bill is nowhere near as big as ours
Treacle Fox Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Think you're giving them too much credit. Why would they be happy taking this slender lead to the away leg? I don't think they were playing at their best but it wasn't by choice. Maybe a bad day for them. Hopefully they have an even worse day in a few weeks time.
Wdywd Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Some of their control and passing out from defence was pretty incredible. I know we're used to absolute filth in that area but even so. One time Rami (I think) intercepted a cross field ball about shoulder chest height with his foot and brought it under control instantly. One twos out of pressure. They looked a really good side.

Maybe Man City. But I honestly don't see Arsenal, Liverpool or Tottenham beating Sevilla. They fluffed their lines, hit the post & crossbar and missed a penalty. Should have been 5-1 tbh. Second half it looked like they were just cruising. We were abysmal and somehow still in the tie.
Guest the fox Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Spurs last season and united and Chelsea this season
foxfanazer Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Nice to watch in periods of the game but I think some of the praise towards them is a bit OTT. They were good but at the end of the day they've left thereselves in a precarious position for the second leg. Can think of a few teams I've been more impressed with. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Porto
erlee Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 why talk about best side - when we can't overcome Hull, southampton or Burnley
Guest Bilo Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 As good as they were, they could and arguably should have had us buried inside 45 minutes. If they had more attacking prowess, they'd have had at least three in the net before the half time whistle. That they didn't suggests that we may, if we have a back four that's on form and playing like Leicester last season, stand half a chance of grabbing a clean sheet as we did against Porto. Nick a goal at the other end on the counter and we're in the quarters.

Not sure Spurs are even going to beat Gent Well if they were cruising their idiots but I don't actually think that was the case, I've seen several people suggest they weren't out of 2nd gear etc etc It's just the way they play and the way the game is played over there, it's much more patient, I know a lot of people who find La Liga boring for that very reason.
Kaewbudda Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 I thought Sevilla were from another planet. The fluidity of the players and their ability to change positions effortlessly was remarkable. They were so comfortable on the ball. In the first half we looked like a bad pub team, they were that good. You can see why their manager is being tipped to become the next manager of Barcelona.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Probably right in Chelsea when they won the league. Us last season were probably better than them as well if it counts.
foxfanazer Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 I was really impressed with their full backs i have to say
StriderHiryu Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 They were awesome. The fluid interchanging of positions was almost reminiscent of the Dutch Total Football team of the 70's. That said, they only put two past us and at 2-1 the tie is still in the balance. They should have won by a huge margin, but didn't which means I couldn't say they are the best team we've faced in that time. The goal they let us score was also pretty suspect.
Fox92 Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Arsenal last season was the best away performance I'd seen in a very long time. Chelsea this season too were superb but not as good as Arsenal were.
