I'm not even convinced it's Teresa May, I think it's people fed up in general with everything. a lot of areas that voted to leave the EU voted for Labour or Lib dem, both of which are either pro remain, or soft brexit (which isn't a leave at all) which makes no sense at all people voted brexit and thats going through but they want to know what will happen, whether that will affect jobs, immigration, health service and the tories (especially may) gave no info on what they would do to reassure people. "i will take no deal than a bad deal" is a bad deal for the country and everyone knows it. shes shot herself in the arse here and a 3 seat majority is awful. no strengthening of hands here.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 June 2017 Posted 9 June 2017 If the DUP strike up a coalition will Sinn Fein MPs sit at Westminster?

Foxxed Posted 9 June 2017 Posted 9 June 2017 Our Brexit negotiations depend on the DUP's view on a hard border in Northern Ireland. And the reason the Tories have any power is because the Scots voted for them. Powerful day for the Celts!

Corbyn can call it a win all he wants but May is still going to be in power and she's going to be backed up by a bunch of ravenous, far right, eu skeptic unionist nutters. Joy. Ugh. Hurrah

Foxxed Posted 9 June 2017 Posted 9 June 2017 Some coalitions of chaos are more equal than others though. Four legs good, two legs bad. Oink oink.

If the Scottish Tories don't want to leave the Single Market, and nor do the DUP, and if Labour don't collapse, May could suffer a vote of no confidence over Brexit.
Foxxed Posted 9 June 2017 Posted 9 June 2017 Boris **** Johnson for PM? How soon will May last? Will she please everyone to keep her coalition four seat majority? I would be CONFIDENT if I were her supporter.
Rincewind Posted 9 June 2017 Posted 9 June 2017 Despite the Tories winning more seats I think Labour have won over a lot of people. The Tories did little to engage with people and relied on the tabloid press to do their talking. Corbyn ran a clean campaign engaging with people and listening. In many Labour seats their majority was increased, in Tory seats Torles saw their majority decrease and Labour increase in votes. You cannot just blame an awful Tory campaign. People were fed up with the way politics had been for some time and it took a lot of hard work for Labour campaigners to convince the apathetic voters that there was still hope. It was always going to be tough for Labour even with the majority the Tories had. They had to take some Tory strongholds to gain a majority. It was a 1-1 draw with Tories winning on a 11-10 penalty shootout. It would be interesting to see the votes cast for the two main parties. I think that would be close if done on a May V Corbyn basis.

BlueSi13 Posted 9 June 2017 Posted 9 June 2017 Interesting tidbit from last night: 1st party % 2015 - David Cameron - 36.9% 2017 - Theresa May - 42.4% (+5.5 PP swing) If I'm right last night was the first time a ruling party increased it's vote share in two consecutive elections. Yet still a 'disaster'. Really fascinating result this.

I suppose it is the fact UKIP has dissapeared up it's own arse which has increased the share for the "big two" without either gaining an overall majority
