Manager

It was claimed on here we'd have a manager by Tuesday or Wednesday but time's passing fast and the lead for both leadership and communication is growing.

Our last closed season was appalling and the January window no better.

Yet all I've heard this vital closed season is that we've been sunning ourselves on a yacht in Monte Carlo, raving about our kids 7-a-side team in Hong Kong, Mahrez wants out  and we're still arguing about who should manage the players who do want to stay.

And this from supposedly the 16th most valuable club in Europe.

What's the problem I wonder?

Whatever it is needs sorting and sorting fast.

With or without Shakespeare if he's suddenly got a problem.

We've had long enough to think things through in terms of what we do next and that goes for the owners, Shakespeare, the people who identify potential signings and so on.

Some choices hurt but they still need to be made. And with a clear head and a clear sense of direction. Otherwise another transfer window will have come, gone, and been largely wasted.

It's almost like we've been caught in the headlights of our own success and been blinded by the light.

I was hoping someone should be lockied into place before the end of May.

How can we even think about squad improvement, what we need and who will not be required until this is sorted.

Come on City get it sorted!

Lauren Blanc rumoured to be the top of the owners wishlist for the manager vacancy.

And let's say he turns us down, and the next one, and they interview Woy again and so on......

Either tell Shakespeare he has the job or we don't want him. It's starting to seem like a protracted execution.

Are they perhaps trying to retain Shaky on the coaching side? What nonsense. A new manager will want his own assistants.

Shakespeare is the easy and most obvious choice but if no agreement can be found we still need some action and a proper sense of direction.

where was tuesday or wednesday mentioned?

also this is preki's time to shine!

It was mentioned in connection with the idea of us making an announcement to the media early this week. I'm certainly not going to search the threads.

More chance of me climbing Mont Blanc.:o

It wouldn't surprise me if Shakey has had to apply for the job the same way every other manager who wants it may have done

I know they already know him but it's fairly obvious at this point the owners are weighing up their options, otherwise they would have just announced Shakey as manager already

So you FFS start another manager thread?

It's a difficult one for the owners because I think that if they don't go with Shakey then he will leave the club full stop which seems harsh based on his performance in keeping us up.

I do fear for him though as the longer it goes on the more I feel it won't be him and there are a lot of more experienced managers available which must be tempting for the owners.

One thing that I'm sure of though is that they aren't just "sunning it up in Monaco" and are probably working hard to find a resolution as quickly as possible

They need to announce someone by a week's time, but like everything with the club, it'll drag out.

I think we are fine at the minuet. If we don't have a manager by July 1st then it's panic mode.

You would happily go through the whole of June, when negotiations are taking place with potential new signings, without the clarity of a confirmed manager?!

The transfer window dosent open till July 1st.... I'd be concerned but it's not the end of the world. Pre season also starts 1st July.

The window might not be open but the deals are being done. Players won't wait forever. Also the new man needs time to prepare not just walk in to shite.

You are aware that most clubs will be doing all of their negotiating with targets before the transfer window opens? And that not having a manager in place could put off players who otherwise might sign? If the club delays the announcement for another month, it would make Shakespeare's position impossible (why would he hang around if the owners made it very clear he wasn't their first choice?) while making the job of negotiating with potential new signings much more difficult. It could seriously damage our preseason.

We're fast becoming a laughing stock if this carries on any longer.

Is that a promotion or demotion from "Football's Soul destroyer"?

We're not becoming a laughing stock, I'd much rather the owners are 100% sure they have the right man before an announcement. The problem on here is impatience and drama rules! It's only 31st May today ffs get a grip.

It was mentioned in a previous thread by someone who said the deal was done and would be made public Tuesday/Wednesday ....    my pub ITK said they were after a 'big name' (queue the managers with long names jokes) from Europe ...      but Shakey has made comments about recruitment which would be a bit weird if he didn't think he had the job ??!?  ...       Tbh, I just can't understand it and really don't see why this hasn't been resolved.

the owners need to consider all the options before making a permanent decision, while something may have been agreed a while ago they need to go through the processes and be thorough in their decisions to get the right man in for the job
