No, I was being a bit facetious but the idea that we must have a manager in place to have a proper pre-season and recruitment drive was surely de-bunked by that summer. Obviously it wouldn't hurt to have a bit of stability but I would have thought that the plans for pre-season are broadly in place irrespective of manager/head coach.

Completely agree, but the right manager not the one we can get the quickest

We weren't trying to get top players in though kante didnt agree to come till after Claudio was in place fuchs and shinji already signed for Pearson i cannot believe that any 'in demand' player will agree to come here without knowing who the manager is

But with Pearson we had a plan for next season before he was sacked and he had already spoken to Fuchs, and Walsh was busy getting Kante, Okazaki etc. Are we that prepared this Summer? It could be possible he already has the job which makes my post pointless - but I doubt we're making moves if we don't know who will be in charge.

The FA Cup Final was 4 days ago. Only the most stable of stable clubs will be active in the transfer market now. Half of the people who work in football will be on holiday at the moment. I'd like us to appoint/confirm a new manager asap but if it comes down to a choice between rushing to appoint Shakespeare to make sure we don't miss out on one or two players this summer or waiting to make a more informed decision then the latter seems like a no-brainier.
ozleicester Posted 31 May 2017 Posted 31 May 2017 The club is aiming for a big future,, the whole "next Level" thing... appointing Shakey for 2 years does not gel with that aim... They will need to get a respected and internationally recognised Manager and appoint him for 5 years.
Callabinho Posted 31 May 2017 Posted 31 May 2017 It will more than likely be announced by the end of the week...I'm starting to worry about next season...I think we're going to **** it up...again.
GaelicFox Posted 31 May 2017 Posted 31 May 2017 This is a major issue now Apparently other players are looking to move only city could make a mess of a simple issue

This "next level" would probably take something stupid like a yearly investment of £50-£100m for about 5 years. Even then you'd probably only crack the top 7. If they want it, they need to back it with cash. Because without it, it really doesn't matter who the manager is unless you fluke an absolute genius... and if you did he'd get poached.

I mostly agree.. except, i had similar thoughts when they told me we would be playing european football in 3-5 years

It's nigh on impossible without someone willing to pump a billion into the club.
Bablemikey Posted 31 May 2017 Posted 31 May 2017 We should aim to establish ourselves in the best of the rest pack as our goal. The step up from there is very definitely a large one.

foxtillidrop Posted 31 May 2017 Posted 31 May 2017 Maybe we will hear some news tomorrow. I'm sure that we've had announcements in previous years on 1 June, with regards to staff members entering and leaving the football club.

UPinCarolina Posted 31 May 2017 Posted 31 May 2017 We got ridiculously lucky summer 2015. I feel like that's not able to be compared to any other window. Fuchs, Okazaki, Kante in the same summer after barely beating relegation.

If we're trying to follow the European/Southampton model then doesn't that just involve changing the head coach and attempting to keep the rest of the staff in place for continuity.
fuchsntf Posted 31 May 2017 Posted 31 May 2017 There is something afoot.. Its seems Dick Dastardly and Muttley, have kidnapped or put an evil spell over our owners. A man resembling garth crooks and a dog, not unlike a certain jimmy Carragher, with a scouser bark and sniggle were seen leaving KP stadium, just before the team was seen leaving for monaco. Police are also enquiring about the gang also seen hanging around the car park, wearing dads army uniforms,3 looking very suspicious, 1 guy with a broad scottish accent proclaiming we are doomed, an older questionable gentlemen, telling one of the younger members not to a silly boy, and some ancient guy camouflage has a butcher running around telling everybody and nobody not to panic.... If you believe you can help with inquieries, please report to your next duty free office, where a guy in trilby and donning a moustache, offering 2nd world war silk stockings will be able to assist you...
sylofox Posted 31 May 2017 Posted 31 May 2017 I've been told Shakey still has the job nothing has changed. But there is a hold up.
