AC Milan considering him apparently

Having grown up watching Milan teams made up with the likes of Maldini, Gullit and van Basten it's a bit bizarre seeing them linked with our 7th choice midfielder!

If Roma are anything to go by, they will take him off our hands if we pay them enough.

I'd hazard a guess that if he hadn't got injured so quickly and frequently, that he probably has quite a bit of quality that we've not been able to see because of said injuries.

I would like us to keep him as I'd like to see what he has to offer. He had very good stats when we bought him, and CR wanted him over Kante, so I think he has a lot to offer... when fit.

I thought his stats were awful.

Granted that he didn't lose the ball very much but he didn't create much with it and didn't win it back enough. He appeared to be a tidy footballer and nothing more in my interpretation of the stats.

Mendy made 110 appearances in three seasons for Nice and helped them to a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1 in 2015–16.[13] He had the second highest number of passes behind Thiago Motta (2950), the most passes per game (78), and a passing accuracy of (92%), best of any player not a member of Paris Saint-Germain.[14]

Hope they consider him quickly . . . .

In all seriousness he hasn't really been given a chance here as yet due to injuries etc however it does sound like it's best for all parties that he moves on and soon

Fvck me, I can remember being at Millwall away last season and he couldn't even pass the ball 10 yards.

Yeah, as I said, it would be good to give him a chance so we can see what he is about. But given his injury record for us (he has been fit prior to joining), a move isn't a bad thing, but I think he potentially has a lot to offer.

I would agree bud

personally think he has great potential but it just hasn't worked out here and best to move him on asap it would seem

There's not a chance anyone on here can judge him ability wise, not a chance!

Players struggle with injuries sometimes, some are out for 18 months for one big injury, and some are out for a season with a couple of recurring injuries.

It's clear he isn't in favour here but I don't doubt he will go on to do well elsewhere, it's all a bit of a shame really.

All of which means **** all.

How many goals?

How many assists?

How many tackles?

How many key passes?

Passing sideways is not what we are looking for, we need a dynamic player that produces good numbers in the above areas, notwithstanding he has not had much of a chance to do a lot here.

Pass completion means nothing without context.

Comparing his season to Drinkwater and Kante his creative stats were about five times worse so that indicates to me his Modus Operandi was playing a low risk ball that kept possession rather than trying to create goal scoring opportunities from it.

His ball winning stats are quite poor as well which indicates to me he's a much of a muchness midfielder who doesn't excel in anything.

I can't be bothered to go and find them! (and I agree stats can be used to say whatever!)

BUT as others have said, it is likely he can do well if given a chance, either here or elsewhere. He's not had game time, so we can't comment on his ability based on his time here.

Right.

Well there you have it.

A player that we probably should never have bought in the first place.

I wasn't critcising your good self.

Just making a point - see Gerard's post above - in that those areas I listed I think are more important than pass completion etc

I didn't take it personally!! But thanks for reaching out just in case, I actually do appreciate that.

As I said, I'd like to see him get game time with us before he is written off.

That's rubbish, I'm sorry but it's just the usual foxestalk overreaction. He was doing just fine, was neat and tidy on the ball and did little wrong until the second half where he lost the ball very cheaply twice in a short space of time. That was about all he did wrong.

I couldn't believe the reaction I was seeing in the match thread at the time as it didn't match up to what I'd seen. For my sins I watched the game again and thought the same after re-watching it. The reaction against him in that thread was nothing short of a disgrace with people just waiting to lay into him. The same has happened several times with the new signings last season.

Well considering I was there, I didn't have the pleasure of watching on a screen where you probably get a better idea.

I do like it how you say our youngsters aren't good enough if they don't get picked yet constantly back up Mendy and Musa. They aren't good enough and the management know it. Thank God Walsh told Ranieri to go for Kante over Mendy.

You could add Busquets into that list and he doesn't come top of a single stat. I love my stats, but they are dangerous just on their own.

I could tell from just watching Mendy a couple of times, that he screens and pressure people rather than going for a tackle. As for his forward stats, he was never asked to do that there so why would they be high? He was purely just sitting in front of the back four and not much else.

I didn't see where he fit at the time of signing him and said so, because he only fit into a three. There were rumours at the start of last season that's what we were going to do, but we never tried it more than once. Bad signing doesn't make a bad player.

The youngsters being good enough is based on experience of them pretty much never being good enough. I've heard it year after year after year, I'm bored of the same argument. So perhaps I'm just rather blunt on that subject now.

If they aren't good enough and the management think that I'm happy to back their judgement. I'm prepared to give them time for several reasons if the management want to as well.  They've either been injured or they walked into a complete and utter mess where EVERYONE was under performing. Solid players like Fuchs, Vardy and Albrighton looked like muck, so it stands to reason that new signings could be suffering from the same.

But then watch him against Porto away as well, there's both sides to say from the very little we've seen that he good either be good or bad, think we should give him a go until January then make a decision if he's willing to agree to that, as I liked what I saw against Arsenal and Boro but then against Millwall and Porto, he looked poor (admittedly most the team in both those games did, henceforth why I think we should give him at least half a season)

Millwall and Porto he was still playing through an injury, plus with a brand new team full of subs who have never played together. Like you say, plenty of arguments for and against.

I think most of it boils down to he's just not suited to our formation.

Fuchs always looked solid and the comparisons to Vardy are stupid... he came from non League, he didn't have CL experience like Musa who we paid nearly £20mill for. Musa' first touch is appauling.

Every business gets a bad rub on occasions.

Mendy's like so many of our supposedly promising imports from Europe. Inler, Kapustka, Kramaric - they're all made for the pace of the Partizan game I watched last night.

Sheltered, strolling football on a pleasant evening suited to anyone with a modicum of ability but needing the time to show it.

The memorable feature was the stark signal of the referees whistle in a sporting wilderness with about as much atmosphere as an empty industrial unit.

There was such a sparcity of spectators there was never chance of the referees whistle being drowned out as it echoed across the stadium with seemingly every combatant contact, never mind the health and safety nightmare of a proper tackle. .

There were so many stoppages it was like driving up to the old Dartford crossing toll booths. The game flowed like a puddle.

What a culture shock it must be for many arriving here from the continent and having to cope quickly with the snarling, snapping intensity of Premiership football.

Some manage and compete with relish but Mendy needed much more time to acclimatise and never looked comfortable let alone accomplished in his fleeting appearances, save for perhaps one half-hour.

Serious ankle problems aren't easily rectified and that will be as much a concern for any prospective investor in his ability, so I'd imagine a loan deal as the only logical way forward because I can't see anyone committing anything like we paid, on what would be the risk of trying to rescue Mendy's career. .

Nor can I see how we'll present any evidence of long-term recovery to a prospective purchaser. Where will even gentle game time come from let alone sustained periods of up to 90 minutes?

It'd take a brave manager to choose him over three or four knowingly fully-fit options.
