Poor keeping in a few instances. I’m surprised the keeping was so poor, as it looks like Johansson was in goal and he was absolutely brilliant last season.
drofmor55 Posted 26 July 2019 Posted 26 July 2019 Wouldnt be surprised to see a couple of the OHL youngsters coming to the Leicester academy

I thought Johansson did ok, nothing special but he didn't make any big mistakes. His replacement Stolarczyk was a disaster 2
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 26 July 2019 Posted 26 July 2019 Our centre backs looked shocking both first & second half.
Popular Post Bonanza Posted 27 July 2019 Popular Post Posted 27 July 2019 Highlights of our friendly against ADO Den Haag (Dutch 1st division) This concludes our preseason. Our regular season starts on Saturday with a home game against newcomer Virton. Our league consists of the following teams: Lokeren (relegated from 1st division) Beerschot OH Leuven Union St. Gilloise Roeselare Westerlo Lommel Virton (promoted from 1st Amateur League) KV Mechelen, last year's champions, have been promoted to the 1st division despite being found guilty of matchfixing during the 2017-2018 season. At first they had to stay in 2nd division, with Beerschot being the team that got promoted to 1st division, but KV Mechelen appaeled this decision. Due to some loopholes in the rulebook the court decided that, dispite being found guilty, KV Mechelen had to promote to the 1st division, because the case against them started to late. KV Mechelen can't participate in this year's Belgian Cup and can't play in the Europa League, despite winning the Belgian Cup last year. The boardmembers who were responsible for matchfixing are banned from Belgian football for 10 years and one of them is even banned for life. 4 4
LC/FC Posted 27 July 2019 Posted 27 July 2019 Honestly, I'm so used to having 'King Power' on our kit that it's weird seeing it on another.

In 2016 he left Kortrijk and returned to South Africa to play for Bidvest Wits (ABSA Premiership), the team where he started his professional career. Looked like the players were not ready to start the new season. Bad passing, no forward pressure,... looked like Pearson all over again . We were lucky to go into halftime with a 0-0 draw. 2nd half was a little better, especially when we went to a 4-3-3 formation. Not that we created a lot of chances, but we were able to gain possession of the ball and have control over the game. We should've had a penalty for a clear handball, but neither the ref nor linesman noticed it. Happy to win it in extra time, despite the quality of play. This was just the 1st game of a long season, but we still have a lot of work to do. The managers are still expecting 3 or 4 new signing, so hopefully they get here fast. 2

TheLittleBigMan Posted 3 August 2019 Posted 3 August 2019 Really good goal that. Great ball to him, nice touch and a good finish. 1
Lizhang Posted 3 August 2019 Posted 3 August 2019 We deserved a penalty and got a goal wrongfully taken away. Nevertheless, this wasn't a great game from us. Virton could have scored and wasn't second best in the first part of the game. 1

How much longer is the transfer window open for in Belgium?
Lizhang Posted 3 August 2019 Posted 3 August 2019 About a month i think. Last day of August? The coach wanted to play a formation, for which he doesn't have the players at the moment. An injury, and still waiting for a reinforcement in defense, so we had to start with a rookie and a liability. One of our new players on midfield, didn't seem fully fit.

The transfer window closes on september 2 at 23:59. Our managers like to play in a 3-5-2 formation, which was quite succesfull when they took over last season. They also played this formation when they were in charge of Cercle Brugge, with whom they won the 2nd division in the 2017/2018 season. They have indicated they still want 1 or 2 central defenders (preferably left-footed ones as we don't have many left-footed players in our squad), a left-back and a striker. I agree that these positions need some upgrades and personally would also like to see a left winger.
KingsX Posted 4 August 2019 Posted 4 August 2019 @Lizhang, @Bonanza, you've explained about a huge drop in quality between the second and third divisions (e.g. academies). Would it be a disaster to drop points to a newly promoted team?
Dorkingfox Posted 4 August 2019 Posted 4 August 2019 What a good goal, Vardy-esque. Always good to get a win first game, the quality will come later with fitness and familiarity. Onwards and upwards. 2

Would it have been a disaster to drop points? No, as it was just the first game of a long season, but it would've put even more pressure on the team than there already is. There is a really big difference in quality between 2nd and 3th division, but Virton is a completely different team than last year. Even though they won their league last year, they let a lot of guys go and brought in 17 new players. A lot of their new players come from Dudelange (1st division of Luxembourg), as they have the same owner. Dudelange was the first team in Luxembourg to qualify for the Europa League group stage last year after eliminating Legia Warschau and FC Cluj, The owner, Flavio Becca, is really ambitious and want Virton to go up to the 1st division as soon as possible. There simple aren't any easy games in our league. All the teams have rich owners (6 out of 8 are foreign), who want their team to either fight for promotion or are building a team to fight for promotion in the next couple of years.
