Congratulations to the OHL fans. I know last season it must have seemed really condescending to hear all the Leicester fans telling you to be patient with the club, but hopefully you are starting to come round. Whilst KP might have made terrible mistakes with your club last season, they really are good at learning quickly. Our team was stuck in the Championship for ages before we got out and it took multiple attempts and managers till we turned ourselves around.

 

Nice to see the highlights of the game, you actually play very similarly to us! Lots of aggressive pressing in those clips winning the ball back high up the pitch and then scoring from it. Quite impressive actually and if you play like that every game then surely you have a chance? It's a very hard style for anyone to combat, which is why even in this league it's effective.

It’s very rife in the Second Division. Rory Smith did an article for New York Times where he pointed out (at the time) that it was 7 of the 8 teams with foreign ownership. Brighton’s owner has Union SG and Chinese have Roeselare. 

 

Less so in the top flight but they are examples like Eupen owned by Qatari’s.

Most of the Belgian fans don't like foreign owners, as most of these owners eventually ruin the club. Unfortunately, the fans have no say in this.

 

For example, Lierse was owned by an Egyptian guy named Samy Maged. He said he would turn Lierse into a title winning club and promised the fans a spot in the Champions League within 5 seasons. But after a while he grew tired of his "new toy", and didn't want to spend any more money. As a result, Lierse was pronounced bankrupt in 2018.

 

Another example is Roeselare. They were bought by Chinese investor Xiu Li Hawken. The woman doesn't know shit about football, but thought she could turn Roeselare into a 1st division club. Of course this didn't work out and she also grew tired of the club. She has just sold the club to a Brazilian investment firm.

 

Eupen is owned by Aspire Zone Foundation from Qatar. Every season these owners drop a new busload of players from their academy in Eupen. If a player does well and is sold, the money goes to the investors. But most of the time the players aren't that good, so Eupen has to battle relegation year in and year out.

 

There hasn't been a real success story about a foreign owner taking over a Belgian club. This is why a lot of Leuven fans were so skeptical when King Power took over. Would we become a feeder club for Leicester? Would we be a team full of Thai players and Leicester rejects? Fortunately, our club is doing great thanks to King Power and the doubters are slowly but surely coming around. The King Power - OHL story might be the first success story in Belgium.

I have to say he's doing great.

 

I really doubted he was good enough, but he's proving me wrong. Our managers gave him a chance and he took it. He's getting better every game.

I actually went to back Leuven to go up this year but couldn't find any odds. They're clearly relatively well funded in that league and based on what the Leuven fans in here were saying they were getting some quite reliable people in place. The way they've started is no surprise to me. I'll make a bold claim but I think you'll go up.

Brucey's post just above, should tell you something. The average Belgian fan despises foreign takeovers and with good reason. Roeselare was owned by a Chinese holding, that prior to King Power, had also been in talks with OHL. Our division (especially 2nd div) is in no way comparable to the Premier League or the Championship in regards to exposure and marketing. When a foreign holding takes over a Belgian (second div) team, this isn't because they think they will get their name plastered all over the Champion's League, but because of whatever shady stuff they have going on. Borderline human trafficking, gambling, money laundering... A "big" 2nd div club (like us) generally has +/-4.500 supporters in the stadium. Only a minority of people can watch the matches on TV (because they are owned by Proximus), our games are not represented in any of he football talkshows or sports programs on TV... There is basically zero incentive to put your money into a small and/or 2nd div club. Unless you think there is potential to grow in the longterm. I think OHL does have that (top 8 cities of the country by population, wealthy region, centrally located...), but that doesn't mean a foreign takeover would be welcomed with open arms. Most Belgian clubs that are/were in foreign hands, did not end well (for reasons stated above). So fingers crossed.

If this sticks, then yes, no one gets relegated. However, this year we're not looking "not to get relegated" but to get promoted instead. In fact, if they get kicked out, all results against them would get annulled, meaning we would lose our last 4-0 victory which got us in first place (on goal difference).

Apparently they had a bill in a local restaurant for € 21000 which they haven't paid. The restaurant sued them for not paying and the local court declared them bankrupt. Roeselare has appealed against this decision.

 

If they really would be declared bankrupt. all they will be kicked out the league and their results will be annulled. This would mean that all the teams that won against them will be deducted 3 points ( or 1 point in case of a draw). It would indeed mean no one gets relegated.

Official statement of Roeselare:

 

This morning, it was brought to the attention of the new management team that a bankruptcy was pronounced by the Kortrijk Business Court. The claim was brought by REO Catering. The Notification to pay on 08/08/2019, received by Ann Van Poucke and this was
paid EUR 28.283,07 on 10/09/2019.

 

KSV Roeselare was managed by a completely different management team when this debt occurred and although the club has changed all the management team, there are still issues of the old that we are actively working to correct.

 

The new management team with the full support of the owner is working to make sure the club is managed in the upmost professional manner for the success of the club and the return to the first division.

 

Unfortunately in this case the previous management did not inform the new members about all the outstanding matters, neither did they communicate about the occurrence of this case which led to what happened today.

 

We accept there may be some surprises however since the new management arrived KSV Roeselare is in a very healthy financial condition all outstanding debts that we were aware of such as:
– salaries
– taxes
– VAT
– insurances
– rents (stadium/flats)
– Pro-league
– FA fees
have been fully covered and we work endlessly to ensure that unexpected and unfortunate situations like this do not happen again.

 

The club makes every effort by its specialised lawyer Mr Johan Vynckier to resolve this case. We are very confident and thankful in a successful outcome. We are in close consultation with all parties involved and will continue to communicate appropriately and as quickly as possible.

 

We would like to reinforce that at the present, KSV Roeselare is meeting all the financial obligations including have paid this particular case. The club is in financially sound and continues to have the full support of the owner to succeed.

 

The goal of the current management team is to bring the club into a stable position on the pitch so we can progress into the first division.

 

We wish to apologize to all parties that have been effected in the past and thank them for the support going forward.

Problem is that no Belgian's actually have the money or want to invest in your football clubs do they?

 

Just be happy that you are in existence and being well-funded.

We had a local investor that wanted to take over the club. But like so often, you know best. But there are indeed a lot of clubs in Belgium that aren't so lucky.
