What do people feel about delayed transmission that avoids the 3pm to 5pm reserved slot. Not the same as live, but better than nothing.

what do you actually get in the uk now? Are all games broadcast eventually on Sky/BT?

Not ideal.

Part of my matchday experience since we got to the Premier has involved being on here and rolling my eyes as people slag off our players, just before they do something brilliant...

But do the 3pm matches ever get broad cast in full, delayed?

Worst possible situation btw, having them split between Sky & BT, the exact opposite of what would normally be expected from competition. True competition would be if more that one provider had rights to each match.

Some 3 o'clocks get full replays and others get extended highlights on Sky as well, but that is Saturday evening, so if you have Sky and don't want to know Leicester's score in a 3pm kick off you would have to basically avoid all the other coverage until 8pm, so the all sky sports news and the 5:30 game. Or listen to it on the radio and then watch the full match back, but with comprehensive highlights around there is no need to watch the full match.

Yes it's difficult. Until this season in Oz matches were broadcast by Foxtel. Only selected ones were live, though all got a full showing eventually. Sometimes I had to wait several days, trying to avoid the score.

Now, Optus own the rights and broadcast every match live. I opted for the satellite service and usually record matches overnight to watch with my elderly father the next morning. Not ideal but better than back in the day when most people who were unable to attend live were lucky to see their team at all.

I find following match threads detracts from watching the match so usually read through after I've seen it.

Not when you use a VPN.

Perhaps some people aren't that tech savvy? Perhaps using a VPN on a kodi isn't as straightforward as turning the sky on? lol

I've said it before on the subject, but when the broadcaster's decide to reimburse me for my ticket and travel or alternatively provide me with free access to a live stream of a game that I've purchased a ticket for which has been rearranged at short notice to accommodate their army of arm chair football fans I'll stop streaming games.

This is the only instance when I stream games as I personally prefer to watch the game in person, however I refuse to pay another £7 per game or £30 per month to watch a game on TV that I've already paid £70+ to watch (ticket and transport) but can no longer attend because the broadcaster has messed around with the fixture schedule to accommodate someone who has little interest in our club but wants further value for the £1.50 they pay per game.

The FA and PL are quick to back their commercial partners on such matters but you never hear a peep from them with regards to protecting the rights of fee paying fans who attend the games yet are regularly trampled all over by the broadcasters. More regulation and common sense needs to be applied to stop fans being taken advantage of. Sadly I fear that we're beyond the point of no return.

Me and my Mrs are both nurses working in London, we had to move out of London to buy. In the south east within commutable distance the most we could afford for our first home was a 2 bed flat for 265k. We both have to work an extra shift a month to make ends meet with the cost of living considering we get a pay cut every year as our wages rise below inflation (which the tories just voted to keep). **** knows what we'd do if we had a baby. At what point on top of all of this are we supposed to afford to pay their criminal subscription feeds?

Football, especially the PL, is a global business now.  Most PL clubs have far more fans than could be accommodated for home matches and for away matches a lot of season ticket holders can't get tickets.

Fans want to watch their club play - live if possible and IMO the vast majority would pay for the opportunity.  Matches are accessed by streams, often of mediocre quality, because there is currently no alternative unless the match is being shown live on Sky or BT Sport.  I have no data to support this but suspect that most fans that stream already have either Sky or BT Sport or both because they enjoy watching live sport, especially football.

I expect that watching matches on streams to continue until the FA/FL accept that the fan base and watching habits are now considerably different to what they used to be and act to provide what the market demands - if they don't the market will continue to be lost to streams.

spot on - they should productise live streaming of all matches perhaps on a pay perview basis;  this will of course canibalise some subscriptions but not the majority.  IT will give them money form the massive number of fans streaming already.... fans all over the world...

I have sky sports. I have bt sports.

I use kodi when a game is on I can't watch on either.

If they want to arrest me for it they both lose out on cash. Give me a viable service for watching the games I want, I will gladly pay for it. It's a sodding disgrace that I could live in Kazakhstan or some other 3rd world country and watch my home team on TV.

If you're truly worried about having 3pm matches on TV reducing ground attendances (wouldn't for me, I work Saturdays and can't get to matches anyways) then use some of the funds made from the 3pm games to subsidise ticket prices, you won't find a shortage of people getting into the ground for a fiver a ticket, guaranteed.

I have Sky Sports.

I don't want Kodi or BT Sports..... because it means right now I get to go to the pub to watch Leics on BT, CL games, Tigers games and Moto GP!

Posted

TV has been banned from my house since 2007. Never ever needed it since then. Internet is a blessing. I choose what I want to see or read. If I want to see a movie I go to the cinema.

No way I'd pay the full price when I only watch a handful of games in a month. (Illegal) streaming all the way.

The only games I ever stream are Leicester ones, so as it has been posted, there is your gap.

I like that they're trying to make you feel bad for not paying through the nose, as they might then struggle to fund the £60M double signings like Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane.

Over here in the great white north (canada) we have two companies that show quite a lot of the games on any given weekend. TSN (owned by espn i believe) and sportsnet (owned by rogers cable i believe).

Each of them have like tsn1, tsn,tsn3,tsn4, tsn5 which say 2 or 3 different games will be on all thise channels. Sportsnet has sn east, sn west, sn Ontario and sn world (which is the old setanta really).

SN world alone costs $20 per month.

Tsn and sportnet channels are part of a package and cost about $7 to $10 per month range for all of them.

So yes for say $27 to $30 per month you get quite a bit of footy. We dont get all the games though. Id say a leicester game would be on once every 3 weekends. Maybe more during the winning season.

Now in order  to pay that $30 you need to also have a basic tv package which start at $45 a month or so. Thats $75 a month with no gurantee that i get to see a leicester game. Sure if you are a footy fan thats not bad as its arund £45 when converted to GBP.

Add in internet costs and my bill is around $130 ( £80) a month (when yuu add in the costs to renting HD boxes etc)

Now i dont watch 90 percent of the tv channels i have and i dont watch 90% of the tv that is abailable to me because im at work or busy you know living ,  doing chores etc. TV is  a rip off. If you told me i could pay say $20 a month to watch all lcfc games i wouldnt think twice about it. Its not like i can just fly over each weekend to watch city play.

We cant compare canada to england though . I think they are concerned if its made cheap online  people will watch online/tele and not show up at the grounds. I dont buy that because if iwere in leicester id be a season ticket holder (if they were available).

When will the corporate elite register that the digital economy means you either adapt to what the people want or suffer?

People won't be told what to do and blindly follow any more, that's just not how the world works in 2017. The dynamic has been turned on its head.

I pay for sky n bt. Have a season ticket but can't get to all away matches. If anyone knows of a legal way I can watch all away games please let me know!!!

VPN plus subscription to NBC, Prem Pass or BEiN.

They dont make it easy, but it isnt illegal.  Just against the companies T&Cs.  They could cut you off and refuse to reimburse you if they think you are getting around the geo block.

I refuse to pay for IP tv services as they are probably lining the pocket of some people smuggling gangster somehwhere, but I am happy to pay a subscription (less than 15 quid a month) for all prem games streamed from abroad.  You just have to convince them that you live in Hicksville, Louisana or in a bedouin tent in the negev.

The NBC Sports Extra streams are being moved to NBC Sports Gold which has limited ways of viewing.

They could still protect the 3 o'clock games by selling a season pass for online streaming of 3 o'clock away games and sold out home games for a specific club, maybe to members/season ticket holders only. Kinda like foxes player but not really really shit and with live streaming of games. Basically if you're a fan and can't get to a game and it's not on Sky/BT you get to watch your team, if you're not a fan of a perm team playing at 3 then there are no games on sky or BT so you are still encouraged to go to watch your local side.

Reading that back it sounds overly convoluted but as many people have said give realistic legal alternative and people will be less inclined to stream. I mean I live in London so I can't even listen to Radio Leicester online.

Spot on. We pay extortionate prices to attend matches, have matches moved with little to no consideration for travelling fans (and longer distance home fans as well), often meaning fans are left out of pocket and quite substantially too, plus the lack of coverage for individual clubs in the league below the top six or seven.

I have no sympathy if this is causing issues because it is wholly self-inflicted. For too long, dreadful consideration of domestic supporters has carried on (I have no issue with overseas fans getting all games live by the way, the money paid should mean a great service) and people are fed up.

Not saying that the relaxing of the 3 o'clock rule would solve everything that is wrong with modern football, but if 3 o'clock games could be shown there would be less need to move them.

I did some digging a few years ago for an article for a fanzine that never got there....  The gist of the 3pm issue and the tv deal are/were:

Live TV 3pm kick offs are perceived to affect attendance - Sunderland got very grumpy about pubs legally (following the court case PL v landlady from ?Portsmouth? that had a Greek subscription - EU law says you can buy a subscription from anywhere in the EU) showing 3pm kick off from other EU tv companies.

PL response was twofold.  They stopped EU tv rights holder from showing more than 1 3pm game on satellite that can be received in the UK, the rest have to be geoblocked streams. The 2nd step was to put the PL logo on advertising hoardings and on screen at every opportunity - replays etc.  You CAN legally watch 3pm ko from another EU country in a pub but you CANT show the PL logo without their permission.  And they wont give a pub permission.

The collective TV deal means that all PL clubs get a share of the TV pie.  If, so the argument goes, each club sold it own tv rights.  ManUre, Arse, Spuds et al would make billions and Leicester, WBA, Wigan, Hull, Bradford, Bournemouth etc etc would sell very little.

Personally I think that season ticket holder should be able to buy away games for their club.  The season ticket number could be on screen, so if they then streamed it, it would be a simple job to stop it and cancel that persons season ticket.  It would just be additional revenue for the clubs.  Personally I cant be bothered with most PL games.  If there's nothing else on, I'll watch it but I'm not making a special effort.

I dont think PL should be free.  "When I were a lad" you had the FA cup final, England v Scotland and the European cup final.  And you were glad for that.  2 matches on MotD and 2 on Star Soccer ( yes, you didnt even get highlights of the League cup final!).  The good old days of it all being on telly and it were all free, didnt happen. There was a couple of season when BBC and ITV shared the rights to live games but it wasnt at the number that Sky and BT  do now.

It will come, meanwhile get your shemagh on and come into the tent, put your feet up.  Sorry no alcohol though

ps.  how bored am I with no footie, to keep this thread going.

does anyone have a link to a guide to how these naughty boys are using a kodi (amazon firestick with the kodi app?) to watch football? What app do they install on their kodi (and how) - are they some how browsing to find streams?
