Yes, it sounds weird alright but it's just nature taking its course In life nothing stays the same for too long, you just have to go with it at times for good or bad.

It's a bit like when you've pulled the best looking woman in the room you're still a bit disappointed when you get her outside.

Can't relate to that

I think people over emphasising the pull we had last season, if you can't make Michael Keane or Troy Deeney kick up any kind of stink about their teams asking silly prices (and they were silly prices), then what chance of you got of getting top talent. You're still reliant on excellent scouting to pick up quality players who are on their way up and not already in the sights of the big boys. Sadly, it let us down.

We were seen as a freak, a one off, every sky pudit and his dog come the end of the season was rubbishing us and blowing smoke up Spur's arse. We weren't looked at as having any chance of regular success, we were expected to bomb in the champions league and were expected to be found out at any moment.

Our success wasn't based on a squad full of amazing players, but a perfectly tuned system and a group of players who worked perfectly together and caught the league cold. The problem is with systems, they are far easier to crack than a team full of top quality and everyone knows that.

We were in with a shot of keeping that success going to some extent if things went our way, but for numerous reasons they didn't in the league. The slide back down was always going to happen. Without year on year substantial funding it's impossible for it to not.

It was always going to be a case of taking 2 steps back before taking 1 forward.

See I've felt this for a while too, and I didn't know whether it was me growing up or just the way I've been. Like a few have said a lot of people have made such great points that touch on all my emotions.

I've barely missed any aways until last season. I was blessed to have done every PL game in 14/15 and 15/16, but 16/17 took it out of me. I stopped enjoying matches as much. I think heavy losses and football that sucks the life out of you can take its toll, but it wasn't so bad in 14/15. One of the biggest lows for me was the Chelsea game; five minutes in and we'd lost the match, the crowd was dead and I had to watch the team battle uphill for the rest of the game. That wasn't fun.

As a result I ended up missing more games than I had in years by the time we got to 2017. I just couldn't justify spending a whole day/all that money travelling to matches when I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. I looked around at the Community Shield and all that excitement, all that buzz I had for that day was swept away with the quiet crowd, sitting down, with the UFS guys making the only effort near me. It sort of summed the rest of the attending season up generally. Flat, tepid. Populist.

You obviously make what you can from your own supporting of the club, but people are right, the huge increase in marketing which seems to be detaching me more than anything and the mind-blowing amounts of money on players we're spending now.

I think it's entirely indicative of modern football for me. I still enjoy the big matches but I feel a sense of detachment every season, everything needs building, everything is a spectacle.

Last season didn't help, of course not. Aside from those incredible European nights, the first 25 games or so were an utter disaster and that never helps. The amount of games I turned up to knowing we'd lost. Negative, yes, realistic, yes. There is the valid point that we'd peaked with winning the title, but if we'd actually gone and done well in the league I probably wouldn't feel this way.

I'm really looking forward to the new season, who isn't deep down, but the pre-season wailing from our fans is just so frustrating, and doing a good job of dampening my enjoyment too. I know our away end is likely to be quiet, the negativity will creep in (if it's anything in the stands like it is on here, and it usually is.)

Voll is right. We might well finish mid-table this season, we might struggle, but we need something inspirational to lift everything. A fantastic cup run, a push for Europe, it'd do us the world of good.

I know what you mean.

Whilst I still can't wait for next Friday, and even more so the Brighton game, I'm a bit disillusioned with certain aspects of what's going on but I think that's just down to the way modern football is, more than Leicester City.

That said, we've definitely lost our way since the title win and whilst it was inevitable, we've rapidly gone by the wayside compared to our former levelled approach at pretty much everything. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we'll just be a run of the mill Premier League team for a while and it's unfathomable given what's just happened. I know we're spoilt, but it's still disappointing.

Completely agree on our away ends. Now that we can't sing "Champions of England", 90% will be mutes.

The problem for some clubs such as Stoke/West Brom is that once you have stopped up for so many years, there is very little to get excited about. Only 2 teams can win the cups and I fear this may usually be members of the top 7 in years to come. However I don't think Leicester should have reached this stage yet having only been back up for 3 seasons. The problem really is once you have won the league, there is nowhere to go. At least last season we had the excitement of the Championships League. This season we might get a perfectly good mid-table finish but that is all unless we do have a cup run. The problem with stability is that the yo yo existence is actually more exciting.

This is the most I have ever been disenchanted with the club in the years I have supported them. I mean we didn't win anything last season and struggled for most of it. The European games were a big disappointment we should have beaten Athletico Madrid.

All I can say is bring back the glory days of David Pleat, Mark Mcghee, Bryan Hamilton and the ginger Mourinho 'Gary Megson' and the cold dark days of visiting Yeovil Town on a cold Monday night or the visiting of grounds like the Memorial Ground in Bristol or the Withdean stadium in Brighton.

If I didn't know better I would say you're being sarcastic.

This is going to sound ridiculous but I'm sure there will be some people that agree with me.

The title winning season was out of this world and I'll take memories from it they will stay with me for life, but.......... since then a bit of the romanticism of supporting Leicester has gone for me and I'm feeling a little bit disillusioned with what our club is becoming.

We don't see to be following the same blueprint and strong infrastructure that lead us to our unlikely successes. Now I don't want to make this another Pearson debate but it's hard to argue that we had solid foundations and some sort of vision when it came to recruitment under him. At the moment everything seems a bit wishy washy and hoping that if we throw enough shit some will stick.

Dont get me wrong I still love the club and come the first game of the season I'll be in attendance but I feel like we've probably peaked and the people at the club don't really know where to go from here.

Fully expect to be slated for this but, thoughts?

Rubbish thread...

lol

It's disenchanting to see a club like Everton, who haven't won anything for 22 years, fly ahead of us on and off the pitch after we won the title and made CL quarters last year. Plus the money they got for Lukaku and what we're likely to get for Mahrez who won player of the year in 15/16. Sandro would have been a much smarter buy than Slimani.

We should have got Michael Keane last year. Now they're even coming in for Gray.

I think the long Summer of no real football has gotten to everyone and giving us all time to over analyze every tiny detail.  It's also not helping by making things that are probably taking a normal amount of time seem like forever (like the Iheanacho / Mahrez sagas).

After 4 years of amazing excitement (getting to playoffs and the Deeney goal, winning the league in amazing style, The Great Escape - that included THAT 5-3, and then the Impossible Journey) last season, unless we either won the league again or Champions League was always going to seem a bit stale.  Yeah, we missed some opportunities for amazing signings (not sure who - Adrien Silva, Michael Keane are the only ones I can really remember thinking, damn, wish we had signed them) but we were an offside goal away from a very decent finish after a slow start and the Champions League run was great.

Back to this season:

Positives:

  • Harry Maguire and Jakupovic look pretty good signings and we've improved over what we had
  • Iborra will be a good squad addition - not sure we needed him
  • Jamo is back and looking a different player
  • Slim and Ndidi have had full preseasons with us
  • We look fitter than last summer and haven't had the three ring circus to deal with so should be more focused

Opportunities for improvement:

  • We need more creativity and dynamism - for me, it's not just about something from nothing, it's about rapidly generating attacks through rapidity of thought and moving the ball around fast.  That's what won us the league in reality.  Yes there were moments of genius but it was closing down teams, recycling the ball and attacking in numbers that really made us the best team in the country - we saw flashes of that last season (Man City, UCL) but need it more often again
  • CB pairing - I'm not sure if Wes is the best CB partner for Maguire.  It's Maguire +1 at the moment.  Hopefully Huth gets fit soon
  • Mahrez alternative - IF he does leave, what is the plan?  I've not seen that in any preseason games. Where it's counted he's played.  Either that means he is staying (hooray) and it's all paper talk. If not though, what would our starting XI be?  I've not seen that but we have tomorrow and Friday still to go
  • Giving youth a chance - I think we can improve on this a lot more.  I don't think we've mixed it up or brought youngsters on in the last couple of years. League winning season, everyone was fit and we were winning, so everyone happy.  Last season, Gray and Chilwell could have played a touch more for me.  Ndidi is young so you could argue he did get an opp.  This season, I've not seen them integrated enough. Barnes should be with the first team and not in France, I'm happy for Johnson, he looks ok.  Gray and Lawrence should be paired with the starters, not in the B team

Apologies for long post and it may seem I am down on the club, I'm not.  I think we are a signing or two short (one seems imminent) and could learn more from preseason but the rubber hits the road a week on Friday and I for one am very excited about it! Chin up chaps, the footy drought is nearly over!

I love this club and I'm raring to go for the season, probably more so than last year but I've got to admit I'm just not as passionate about it anymore. For me modern football is killing the game I love, the money, the media, the rarity of a 3pm kick off on a Saturday, it's just slowly losing its way.

After working a season in non-league last year I gained a little bit more love for football and lost a bit of love for my beloved City. I'd love to get that back for the club but ive got to admit I think I'm going to struggle. I hope my dad doesn't read this because I still remember the look in his face when Mahrez bent that ball into the net against Chelsea, the realisation that we could actually go on to do something amazing after all the years he had supported us will stay with me forever. Now I don't know if I'll ever show that passion to my kids?

Everton are much bigger than us though. While we were pissing about in the second and third tier they were still a top flight club, as they have been for 60 odd years.

We won the league off the back of one good season. There was no build up. At least when Blackburn won it in 95, they finished 4th and 2nd in the seasons before. Just because we've won the league doesn't make us bigger than the likes of Everton or Tottenham, because we're not.

We're an average club that had one good season. People need to revisit their expectations here.

As for Lukaku v Mahrez fee, again, Mahrez has had one good season. Lukaku has consistently delivered for the past 5 or 6 seasons. It was obvious a top club would go for him eventually.

Which is more to do with over expectation, people dressed in fox onesies, the complete lack of originality and an arrogance (which wouldn't be bad if there was any humour). You won't hear an opposition fan say a good thing about our fanbase. No slight admission that we can make a noise or that we are a good bunch. Just spoilt brats.

In away ends last season I saw the following:-

Violence between ourselves at Wembley and Sevilla

Stealing freebies between each other at Wembley

Idiots in Copenhagen verbally abusing friendly hosts

A smokebomb being launched and hitting a child at Liverpool

Constant abuse bordering on racism on the train back from Liverpool

Verbally abusing members of the public at Watford

All because our fans couldn't take a bit of losing with the glory.

I know. I said this all last season. Even the post I've just quoted, the poster comparing us to Everton when, in reality, they are much bigger than us.

The lack of originality, again, completely agree. But we don't even sing in sync anyway. We sing the usual rubbish for a few secs. The best away last season, for me, was Brugge and we never had an end like it all season.

I don't understand how we take so many numbers yet don't replicate it in voice.

Anyone who is disenchanted with our football club after just winning the league, quite frankly has no right to support it , just go and support Man Utd instead if you can't stand the reallity of LCFC. Unbelievable....

Owners have certainly taken eye off ball

the investment to get us to the next level , thier words after winning league, seems to have dried up

would have liked to seen £100m spent on exciting talent this summer

shakey looks to be loosing players by the day , then again it's rumor time , but then again most rumors are started by players agents

spurs and leicester seem to be under the same pressures , I can see both teams struggling next year

shakey Needs a very solid start to season otherwise the pressure will be rampant come November

Football is played in the present and dreams are constructed to fulfil the desire of a happy future

the past is the past and it offers nothing only a reference point

the unbridled joy has disappeared and vulnerable and slightly weak fans will obviously be worried and lost at what is happening or at least what is suggested is happening

I get the disenchantment .... BUT I feel it's way too early for it

we could be in the middle of a golden period in the clubs history

or it could have been two shooting star years of fun and joy

time will tell

and thats why we can dream .......
