surrifox Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Turkish side Osmanlispor reportedly ready to offer a 3 year deal. No fee likely but a lump off the salary bill
Koke Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Let him go. If he stays here he will just spend most of the season with the U23 whilst collecting his wages.
Fox92 Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 He was always okay as backup, that's it. Makes to many rash decisions for me. We need another centre half. Get in someone to play with Maguire.
Merging Cultures Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Until we have another CB, we need to keep him imo. Personally, I think he is a liability. But we need 4 CBs, at the moment we have 1. Maguire, 2. Huth, 3. Morgan and 4. Benny. With Amartey potentially as a backup, but I am not convinced, even if other teams have played him there, I don't think he has the right positional sense.

lgfualol Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 If we can get back what we paid I think it's a good deal. I like Benjamin but he is too rash. We would need another CB in though. I know they won us the league, but if Maguire gets injured or suspended we could be in trouble.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Personally felt last season he showed his capability when he had the stint of game time. He was part of the team in Shakespeare's revival, and looked like he was flourishing from regular games at CB. I'd like to keep him, but I'm not sure he will be in the first team regularly, and I doubt he will want to be back-up.

Only when Huth was there to wipe his arse, when he played with anyone else he was abysmal!

Amartey is our Phil Neville. A decent utility player but nothing more. He's 4th choice in just about every position he can play.
Babylon Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 He's just not good enough, him going will surely mean another player coming in.
foxes21 Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Hopefully this means we are signing a CB!!! Would like a RB, but Amartey's going to be back up there isn't he. If we can keep Mahrez/Drinkwater and sign a CB and maybe a winger then this would have been a very good window.
Lovejoy Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Maguire, Wes, Huth and Amartey. Given that we're not going to be playing the extra 10 CL games from last season I don't think we need 5. I'd still sign another who is first eleven standard though as would most.
NewquayFox Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 That tackle at the pre season game was his swansong, Don't think Shakey wants to risk him after that. Hopefully we have a CB lined up, Gibson, Wimmer or the chap Southampton are after.....

I remember Shakespeare saying after the MK Dons match, Amartey prefers the CB position. Maybe shift him to CB and sign a RB to give Simmo competition People are unsure about Wes, but Huth is still a very good defender in my opinion!

I'd like to think we'd be able to offer more (not just in terms of financial package) than Southampton.

He's better on the ball than Huth and Morgan but they're both solid defenders which Benalouane never was. It was a strange signing at the time because he'd signed for Atlanta the season before for €1m and was rated the 330th best player in Serie A that season statistically and then we buy him for €8m. He was 28 at the time so it's not like he was young and we'd spotted something, just a strange signing all round really and he's turned out pretty much as expected.
Tuna Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Slotted in well last season but looked hugely out of his depth against Spuds and that appalling tackle against Burton sealed his departure. Probably on plenty of dough as well. All in all a pretty woeful signing and glad to see the back of him.

We really need to 'put him out to pasture'. (Bench) I find it staggering that we can't find a good solid European (for example) central defender for £20m.
Legend_in_blue Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Great. If he leaves, we'll need another 2 CBs, not just one. He's a liability, but at least you'd hope that he's used as sparingly as possible as backup. I'd rather have a liability to call upon every now and then rather than no one at all. And before anyone quotes jack of all trades master of none Amartey in all of this, he's an even greater liability imo.

Arriba Los Zorros Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 I actually think Benny's got something to offer. Maybe it's too late in his career for his errors to be ironed out, though
