Realist Guy In The Room Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 He had one good game and everyone jizzed. He's truly crap and needs to go. I really dont want Gibson to be honest. We've signed Maguire who fits the young, promising CB role so we dont need another. Gibson or Mbodji would be ideal.
dedlock Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 There were games last season when he performed quite well. In other games,e.g. Everton away, he looked totally out of his depth. There's always the worry of a rash tackle and a red card. On balance, provided we recruit another CB, I don't see a future with Benny.

Slightly contrasting comments.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Seems like a decent bloke but he's just not very good. Let's go and get someone to start with Maguire.

I think he's been vastly underrated - as a defensive midfielder. Not sure about centre-back being his forte, especially when you look at the most important aspect of it all - defending. But his calmness and composure on the ball is second to none. Also has a more than decent pass and long ball on him.

I think he would be well out of his depth there.
Dan Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 He's not that good on the ball either. He's got a better touch than Morgan or Huth but his passing is equally as poor.
Hitesh Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Only works if we have a replacement as we will need backup

If we can keep Mahrez/Drinkwater and sign a CB and maybe a winger then this would have been a very good window. So we can judge a good transfer window without seeing the new players play now. Musa must be the best player you have ever seen after Barca last summer. Can we judge a window after its closed and when we have seen the players play. Most thought last summer was a good one.

"I don't want Gibson" because he would be "ideal".
Ted Maul Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 He became a bit of a cult figure in the second half of last season, even if only for his 'stepladder' challenge on Giroud. We'd be mad to let him go unless we've got another quality CB lined up.
Thracian Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 I'd let him go tomorrow. Simply not good enough. £3m back in the kitty and another place we can improve on in our squad. At least he tried.
Kitchandro Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 Shame if true, he's very good backup. A bit erratic at times but a standout performer in quite a few matches last season. If he goes we need to bring in another first choice centre back, preferably someone with a bit of pace. Why again are we not in for Smalling?!

He's a liability, but at least you'd hope that he's used as sparingly as possible as backup. I'd rather have a liability to call upon every now and then rather than no one at all. And before anyone quotes jack of all trades master of none Amartey in all of this, he's an even greater liability imo. Why 2 though? 1 more and we have 4 first team centre backs. Amartey, Iborra and Wilf can all play there plus Fuchs if really desperate and even youngsters like Elliott Moore and Darnell Johnson. We need somebody to challenge Huth, Morgan and Maguire. Benny was/is never going to do that so the above can be 5th choice

Can't say I disagree with that, but Benaloune is worse than Morgan, the quicker Morgan and maybe even Huth are our reserve CBS the better.

His long passing looks good purely because he tries so many then eventually one drops onto somebody's foot and people think it's the second coming of Beckenbauer.
Vindaloo FOX Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 I've been a Benny fans since i saw him vs West Ham in the cup. he stepped up and helped us out last season when we were desperate at the back and we were looking like a relegated team. but he blows hot and cold, vs Spurs he was awful but everyone was. he seems to be a great character to have around the squad and when he was not playing he did not throw his toys out the pram, he got his head down and improved his game. i love you Benny

DatfoxesKid23 Posted 18 August 2017 Posted 18 August 2017 when huth and morgan get too old we need to get a new class of defender so benaloune can go he isn't going to play here anytime soon

He try's things he doesn't have the ability for and gives it away in dangerous positions. I've rather have the wes chip to safety and that's saying something. He had the worst pass completion ratio of our centre backs the last time I checked.
