Unclenobhead Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 ...I must admit I had the start of a tear in my eye when it was reported Mahrez had left the Algerian training camp to join another club, whoever it may be. I might get some stick for this as yes he can be frustrating to watch at times, yes he can go missing for most of the game and yes he has handed in his transfer request and wants to leave us but the guy has made my day many times as I sit in the stand with his moments of magic, he has been an essential part of our unbelievable success and for all his faults I don't think we will see a player give us what he has for a very long time if ever again. He was something special, he made me and my kids happy and excited with moments of pure brilliance and I for one will be very sad to see him go. The club will go on forever but I can't help feeling it will be a poorer place tonight without Riyad around.
Kinowe Soorie Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 It's just like when the original Tommy Wright left us...
Old Fox Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 I think football is like nothing in else in life to be honest and our loyalty with passion for our club is irreplaceable!! Leicester City will always be our passion and mean more than anyone player however my young son has just come in to tell me the news he has read about Riyad on the forums - he was close to tears and I remember my father doing the same with me when Gary Linker left us. This is different in that Gary as we know was a local boy who empitonised everything about our great City but Riyad is probably the best player to have played for our club. Certainly part of the best team and probably the ingredient that every great team needs. If he goes as seems likely I hope he goes to Barca who would be one of the few places he deserves to show his talents - he may actually prove how talented he is on a world class stage!! However, we will move forward with the best owners in the clubs history and to date they have over delivered hopefully the next chapter is just as exciting. Another sad old grey fox!

Fox92 Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 If we lose Mahrez then we lose our creativity and attacking threat. Saturday at Old Trafford was an example - he was our only threat.
somebum Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 you and me both mate felt terrible when I saw the news
Captain... Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 I love RM he is just the most amazing player to have had the privilege of watching week in week out, albeit a frustrating one at times, and I really don't want him to go, but if he does it won't be the end of the world. Teams lose great players and survive and sometimes even perform better. I think we soemtimes rely on Mahrez too much and think we can give him the ball and he will take on the whole team and score. Without Mahrez others will have to step up and they will. We may lose 1 or 2 players today but our successes have always been built around a team not an individual.
Kitchandro Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 I'm more sad for them tbh. Mahrez and Drinkwater seem desperate to leave and I have no sympathy for either of them that they are stuck in contracts and no one wants to pay enough money for them. It doesn't look like either of them are going to leave in this window.
foxy boxing Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 What's worse is losing him on the cheap, we'll probably get forty million for him when Arsenal paid 30 - 35 million for a bag of crap Xhaka!. He's worth so so much more to us!

Kitchandro Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 I'm going to be honest, and some people will hate me for this but I don't really care - as much as it's a priveledge to watch Mahrez at his best, as much as he's been one of our best players, and as much as I'd prefer him to stay, I certainly won't shed a tear when he leaves. It's quite obvious with some of his comments that he doesn't really respect the club and I his lazy on pitch attitude, especially since he decided he wanted to leave a year ago, has never really endeared me to him. Whilst he's the most talented player we've got, he's also one of the least likeable. He really lets his teammates down at times when he doesn't put a shift in. Many times last season it was like playing with 10 men and Arsenal the other week was another example of that. I'm more gutted at the thought of Drinkwater leaving, not just because I think he's an important player, but because he played like he gave a shit, even if his form was awful for months on end. I really hoped he could have been England captain amongst all those London toffs getting picked for who they played for. It's such a shame Hodgson didn't pick him for the Euros because he only played for Leicester - it's quite possible that that's one of the reasons he'd want to leave and I predicted that at the time. Anyway, both players will leave sooner or later though and when players start to think they're too big for us I haven't really got time for them anymore.

I think Riyad is by nature a 'mercurial' player - the things he does aren't things you can do well by just trying harder, some games they come off and others they don't. He's also our outlet and our system relies on his being free for a counter rather than spending his whole time camped back helping Simpson out, its a misconception he is lazy. It's also a misconception he doesn't respect the club, I would argue he's been very respectful by stating openly he wants to move on, rather than sneakily engineering a move in silent. It's all very well asking for honesty from people, but if fans can't take it when people are honest and spit their dummy out then we wonder why players are underhanded? Most importantly though, he is by far our best player and we're in trouble if he leaves.

If last season never happened I'd be devastated at the thought of Mahrez leaving, but he showed he can have a terrible attitude and play at 50% for weeks on end. He'll still get selected in case he produces a moment of magic but when he can't be arsed then those moments rarely occur. He was a great player for us, but get rid I'm really disappointed with Drinky handing in his request, always trying his hardest even when off-form, will be very difficult to replace
Bayfox Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 Esteban, Kante, Mahrez and Vardy's goals scoring feats, what a time to alive, The GREATEST escape, The Ultimate Fairy tale, capped off by a European Tour. Don't be sad, be happy we witnessed it, but accept the real Leicester are back, the cling on's will go home, the algerian fan boys can depart our site, and most of all, when we are in L2 I can get some new grounds in and Kingy can win every league, plus I still don't forgive Nige for not winning the Johnstone's paint, so we can field a full strength side as we slip trough L1 and lift silverware once again.
lifted*fox Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 The PL win will forever be a happy memory but some of the key players are moving on and tbh **** 'em - they're dead to me (). In all seriousness, we weren't going to keep this lot together forever and since we won the league we majorly ****ed up any chance to push on and compete for Europe regularly with our awful transfers last summer.
ZeGuy Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 Why do we always find in this kind of threads, one or two who feel the need to take a dump on something/someone others genuinely like.

It was just a quip to his line 'some people may hate me for this' If you were a fan for 40 years, or say 50 perhaps would you understand? I've been a fan for 35 years so maybe we are on a different vibe? Either way it's totally irrelevent.
