I have never been a massive fan of Joe Hart over the past couple of years as he is prone to big errors which cost you the game, Southgate says he is sticking by his man but do you think its time to give someone else a run, maybe Jack Butland?

Thought Butland should have started these last 2 games. Used to like Hart but think Butland is better now. After that it'd be Pickford as backup.

I've said it's Butland for the past year or so but Pickford has a good future too.

I don't really rate Fraser Forster as high as others seem too.

Its not just been the last couple of years, its been especially evident in particular on from being humiliated in the penalty shoot-out against Italy where Pirlo successfully Kermo'd him that he isnt a good keeper - on from that event he's shown himself up at every Tournament. It seems that his high regard has been earned more from his attitude and mentality, spirit and 'hart' he displays is seen as invaluable, as is hysterically screaming at ballboys, diving over balls, clenching at air with his feet planted like a 60 year old amateur and diving out of the way of shots.

We have talent in the country with Butland and Pickford and they need blooding if theyre to reach international potential, Hart has peaked and waned.

Joe Hart has no business playing for England. He's not good enough and shouldn't be selected.

Butland, Heaton, Pickford, Forster and Foster. All first choice keepers for PL sides, and you can all but guarantee at least one of them is in good form at any given moment.

Meanwhile Hart falls out of favour at Man City, goes on a pretty uninspiring loan to Italy, and ends up at West Ham where he's conceded 10 goals in 3 games for the side who are currently propping up the table.

And yet Hart is favoured over every one of them for England. It's baffling.

Probably because the slate isn't wiped cean after every international break with regards to their performances for England over a certain period of time. Granted Joe Hart isn't the best example to be using of recent. Harry Kane hasn't scored a goal for Spurs since he last played for England, why has no one questioned his call up? What is baffling is how some people think the squad for the next international break should be made up of players from those who have performed the best strictly between 9/9/17 and 1/10/17. When has international football ever worked like that? Jack Wilshere I think it was about two years ago always seemed to perform well for England but wasn't doing much for Arsenal. The manager can't just disregard what happened the last time players played for England. You spend two years trying to find the squad to take you to the next summer tournament and people think the squad should be made up of players who have had a decent last 4/5 games.

For the record IMO, Kane should be one of the first names on the team sheet let alone the 23 man squad everytime unless his form is absolutely appalling since he is by far and away our best striker. And Hart fell out of favour suddenly after being #1 because the new manager has a very unique philosophy of wanting his GK to have a passing ability higher than his keeping ability.

But nobody is asking for the slate to be wiped clean after each time England play, just that it needs reviewing once in a while. Hart's decline and poor form hasn't just started, he's been a bit shit for a while now. Heaton, Pickford and Butland (either side of his injury) have all been playing well. So there's enough evidence over a long period of time that Hart shouldn't be first choice any more, and not just because Pep didn't want him and shipped him out on loan.

The balance you have to find when picking an international squad is having a core of players whilst also picking on some kind of form, you can't just blindly keep picking the same players squad after squad even if they're playing badly, but also you can't completely change the squad each time.

The players below the established players have to believe they have a chance of breaking through though, and taking the spot, otherwise they'll start to wonder why they bother, and the established players will become complacent. Southgate's comments, pretty much saying Hart is number one no matter how poor he's playing don't help things. Doesn't exactly give Butland and Heaton much incentive to push themselves to the limit to try and take that spot when it's just been announced it's a closed shop.

Way i see it 9 months till the world cup.

We go out in group stages.

Southgate gets castigated by press and fans and then given 2 year contract extension for next Euros by the FA.

We qualify with ease for next euros with the ongoing debates about who is best player etc.

We go out in group stages of Euros after being beaten by Belarus.

Southgate is 'removed' from his position and replaced by the next FA yes man.

Rinse and repeat next 4-6 years.

Nothing Southgate has said or done to date gives me any confidence that this side will be either successful or entertaining. Quite the opposite in fact.

I feel like bringing Hart back in sent a really negative message to the squad and to everyone trying to force their way into it. It's just going to be status quo plus a sprinkling of undeserving yoots from big clubs.

Isn't it just so English that a guy who is possibly the most iconic personification of the disappointment and failures of the national side over the last few decades is the man chosen to set the tone and lead us forward. Perhaps the FA is banking on some anime-esque redemption story but I can't see it myself.

A somewhat tough question.

Hart - Experienced and can be reliable in big games, but you have the feeling he can do something clumsy that can cost the team at any time.

Heaton - Has grown well whilst at Burnley. He's reliable and a leader but sometimes vulnerable at set-pieces.

Forster - Same as with Heaton.

Though he seems to lack the leadership qualities you see in Schmeichel, for example, that could improve his game further.

Butland - A real shame he had that bad injury; especially during a time where he was getting quite strong, positive reviews.

He's always has his heart on his sleeve, quick to react and distribution isn't bad either.

Had he not had that injury, he'd probably be more of a favourite to consider starting. But, now, still have the confidence in him to get better and push for the number one position for his country.

Edit: Haven't seen enough of Pickford to comment on his performances.

From that list Butland but I'd have Pickford ahead of him.

A Burnley fan once said Pearson had a 12 year old boy haircut (he definitely doesn't) but Jordan Pickford actually does have a 12 year old boy haircut
