By comparison we looked very disjointed and poorly organised. We're fast becoming mid table Premier League plodders. A team full of established players that simply struggle to play as a team. Whether that's a good thing or bad thing time will tell and is down to personal opinion. However I feel that we're evolving into a team in the mould of Stoke and West Brom settling for mid table mediocrity rather than pushing to elevate our game to the next level. For the first time in a long while I feel like the club both on and off the pitch has no clear vision or direction which is saddening considering that less than 2 years ago the club was being heralded as the model that others should follow. Let's take nothing away from Huddersfield, they're a very good team and will surprise quite a few this season, however we really needed to ask more questions. Setting up in a 442 knowing that they would play 5 in midfield playing a high tempo pressing game seemed rather naive. First half our midfield was non-existent. Admittedly things improved slightly second half but N'didi was well off the pace today. If Iborra is fit then he has to play a part in these types of games. I was also very surprised by the Vardy substitution, he certainly didn't look injured contrary to what Shakespeare said in his post match interview but if he was struggling then fair enough. Not a disaster today by any stretch given the quality of the opposition but I hope that moving forwards we can be a bit more dynamic and flex our style in order to be prepared for the opposition rather than simply sticking to the same old formula week in, week out. According the eyes of Shakespeare they weren`t playing 5 in midfield, but were just fluid and that we weren`t out numbered in midfield! We looked a poor side today in my opinion, without any real idea of what we are being set up to be. We may set up the same as the title winning side that we were, but we are a million miles away from playing in that carefree expansive manner. Now it all seems so slow and ploddy, with more emphasis on trying not to lose rather than trying to go out and make things happen and win the game. You talk about us evolving into a mid table side, but i think we are looking more like a side that are going to really struggle this season at the moment. I think we are going to have to go three in midfield to get the best out of Iborra, if and when he gets into the side, and if we ever see Silva playing for us, then a midfield trio of Silva, Iborra and Ndidi, looks pretty promising. Then we have to decide what formation we switch too to accommodate the three in midfield.
Dan Posted 16 September 2017 Posted 16 September 2017 Shocking today. Thought it was the worst we've played all season. Have defended CS a lot but thought that was nowhere near good enough. First half was one of the worst halves of football I've seen from us in a long time. February-like. The lack of qualify is astounding. We showed Huddersfield an absurd amount of respect today. Shakey needs to remember what got us to the top and it absolutely wasn't that kind of attitude. It isn't an awful result but it was a shoddy performance.

No it shouldn`t, they had a perfectly good goal disallowed and overall were the better team, and in my opinion, much as i hate to admit it, they deserved to win the game. We stole a point today, and in fact had Gray not decided to chuck himself on the floor looking for a penalty, when he could have had a shot at goal, then we may have won the game, which would have been the biggest and most scandalous daylight robbery since the days of Dick Turpin!

The problems are bigger than individual players, starts with the manager, and go from there, the players look disjointed and lost this season. I agree whole heartedly.
Harry - LCFC Posted 16 September 2017 Posted 16 September 2017 Didn't deserve the draw. That was the most disappointing performance of the season as we were again pegged back and overrun in midfield, but this time not by a top six side. Didn't mind giving Iheanacho a go but I'd suggest that Okazaki has to play until we find some other way of solidifying our midfield.

Blue ROI Posted 16 September 2017 Posted 16 September 2017 We were a shambles in the first half. I've defended shakey so far but today was a big letdown. Today looked like the Leicester of late 2016/early 2017. I can only hope that we'll gel as a squad soon because teams will be more disappointed at dropping points against us than us against others. Not fearing relegation yet but the argument that we have lost our way grows ever stronger.
Blue ROI Posted 16 September 2017 Posted 16 September 2017 Also a big problem for us is that we seem to show urgency when we go behind. This has been one of the worst aspects of our season to date.

DelBoy73 Posted 16 September 2017 Posted 16 September 2017 Comes the day Vardy gets the ball more often than Kasper and Simpsons stops hoofing it to row z, i will gladly praise Shakespeare's managerial ability; until then, i will state my case of him being downright out of his depth. He should be given the U21 coaching job and we 'd better be looking ASAP for a proven PL manager who will help us secure a top15 finish. I can live with us stuck in the bottom half of the table as the new Stoke or Swansea, but will not bare to see us turning into relegation fodder once again.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 16 September 2017 Posted 16 September 2017 It's becoming incredibly frustrating being second best in midfield nearly every game. Ndidi is being run into the ground by the lack of support and I think that shows in his wayward passing. Change the formation please.

vanity Posted 16 September 2017 Posted 16 September 2017 I get that everyone is pissed, and many are blaming Shakey, but I would like to know who plays in the midfield other than King? BC no matter what is said, there is no chance King plays in front of Iborra if Iborra was ready. Huddersfield are all about the guggenpress or gangnam style or whatever they call their special press. When you have crap midfielders playing, it can be wildly effective, like the first half today. Not sure Shakespeare had a move that would've worked better. NOW....if this continues to be a problem now that we have Silva official and Iborra regaining health, ok, fine, Shakey needs a talking to. But we have been awful to watch lately bc our midfield play has been dreadful. That should improve no later than next weekend. With Silva and Iborra and Ndidi, wouldn't mind seeing a 4-3-3 at times against the better pressing clubs, possibly drop Riyad behind Vardy and Nacho. Especially if Dragovic looks good enough to start, then we have 5 of the 7 players who can help break the press.

the fox Posted 16 September 2017 Posted 16 September 2017 What gets on my nerves is the fact that the team is leaving too much on the table, the team has the ability to get points, its silly mistakes that is costing us points!

So why does he go down when he has beaten the last defender and has a great chance of a five a side finish against the keeper. Just mind boggling decision making, needs to take a leaf out of Aguero's book of commitment and how to ride a tackle.

I'm sorry but we have to beat clubs like huddersfield if we want to be mid table or higher. That includes winning ugly (even if we are out played or what not). I dont expect us to win the league again but no reason why we cant be top 10 every season. I'm not taking anything away from huddersfield though as they showed up wanting the 3 points. Fantastic start for them and newcastle so far.
