StriderHiryu Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 He had a great debut. Solanke is not the toughest he will ever face but we were under the kosh in that first half and he didn't put a foot wrong. Showed he can deal with pressure and the pace of the English game. Will need more more time to make a complete judgement but that was very promising. He was good on the ball too. I don't think Shakespeare will start him and Maguire for a bit but based on tonight that combination should be a good one.

This could be the problem, looks like he's going to be head and shoulders above Morgan, but will he have the bollocks to drop his captain, if he continues like that, I don't think Shakespeare has the option.

Morgan looked every bit as good as Dragovic today, so not sure why you'd drop him after that.

Which is some compliment when Chilwell and Amartey have been and looked like they'd never defended before in their lives. I agree with you entirely Babylon (I think that's 3 or 4 times in the last month - something must be wrong !). Amartey is no right back (he MIGHT be a good Centre Half - we'll probably never find out !) and Chilwell is no left back (though he could be a fantastic left midfielder or winger).
The Doctor Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 Don't think it's a question of Dragovic or Morgan. Certainly while we're light in midfield 3 at the back would be easier. I'd be tempted to go back to the great escape 3-4-1-2, with Dragovic-Morgan-Maguire as a back three. Outer two have looked fairly comfortable on the ball so far which is a plus.

Let's also remember that he defended against a man who they've just spent £40m on. Very harsh comments from you @Babylon Ehhh, his decision-making was -- yet again -- rather suspect. Needs to make better decisions, he's forever losing the ball, passing to the wrong color jersey, deciding to make a run into multiple defenders and failing, etc.
Slim Dog Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 23 minutes ago, Babylon said: Yeah I watched the game and he was average again. Hands all over players, giving away needless fouls, needless clearances that put us under pressure, poor decision making, gifted them several chances with poor positioning. He also saved our ****ing bumholes multiple times. I didn't see what you did I'm afraid. Edit: Apart from the hands part (in meaningless positions mind you)

He was like a lot of the others, good flashes (blocks, charges forwards) but then followed not up with some doggo stuff. Not just him at all, most were like that. Only three players probably walk away from that without some criticism.

I saw him make one mistake. I thought he was shit against Sheffield United in the last round so I call it as I see it but tonight I thought he bossed the Ox from the start. Very impressive performance from the kid.
Jakemoore Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 I guess some people are never happy. #booboys

Perhaps what I consider mistakes and what you do are different things. Anyway, it's not a Chilwell thread, I'm not making shit up for the sake of it and he was far from the only culprit, so we'll leave it there.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 Early days, he looked decent against a second string attack. Not saying he's not going to be good but let's judge him after a few more games. Even Benalouane looked quality in a few games last year!

Benny always looked on the edge for me, even his good performances it was edge of your seat stuff with his challenges. Drago looked composed I thought and I never felt like he was seconds away from a mistake.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 Good start for the lad, I bet he was a bit stunned by his first 45!
ZeGuy Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 Ha, I knew a thread would be created just for him.. He did more than okay for a first appearance even more so when we look at the first half, when he, Morgan and Hamer were left practically alone against Liverpool. Good job.
MC Prussian Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 Dragovic alongside Morgan in the middle was like having two anchors at once. Rock-solid display, Iborra also played his part I must say. Don't understand the criticism aimed at Chilwell. In a first half dominated by Liverpool he did rather well against a player like Coutinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain, I'll forgive him his errors going forward to a certain extent. Primarily, because our midfield was so bad at holding the ball and moving forward. If you want to slate somebody, how about Amartey who never really knew whether he was a right-back, centre-back or defensive midfielder, allowing Liverpool to exploit loads of open space on his side.
Livid Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 I thought he was one of the few who looked decent in both halves. Fitted in well enough but early days.
Monsell1976 Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 21 minutes ago, ajthefox said: Chilwell was pants. Pants is a bit harsh, but the lad has work to do defensively, he isn't ready to oust Fuchs just yet, as some believe.
knitro Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 People going after Amartey - was he suppose to be on their nominal left winger Coutinho or was he also suppose to be covering the left back? Because it certainly seems like a lot of those attacks coming from his side were because Albrighton was pinched so far inward.
