Rock-solid display, Iborra also played his part I must say. Don't understand the criticism aimed at Chilwell. In a first half dominated by Liverpool he did rather well against a player like Coutinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain, I'll forgive him his errors going forward to a certain extent. Primarily, because our midfield was so bad at holding the ball and moving forward. If you want to slate somebody, how about Amartey who never really knew whether he was a right-back, centre-back or defensive midfielder, allowing Liverpool to exploit loads of open space on his side. If you read the thread both were criticised.

I did read it, just found the criticism aimed at Chilwell somewhat unwarranted. Compared to Amartey, he actually knew what he was doing and what position he was playing in!

He only got more grief as people wanted to block out any mistake he made from their memory, which took it into a discussion about him. Only three players walk away from that game without a question mark over them. The rest were good and shit in equal measure most of the time.
CloudFox Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 To some extent maybe it's good for him that he got that trial-by-fire first 45, as it have him a platform to just do his job and concentrate. Thought he looked very good with Morgan. ...and I'll leave comment on other players for other threads.
Buzzell Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 Solid debut but still can't see Morgan being dropped.
Beechey Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 Everyone seems to be ripping Chilwell for some reason He's obviously a wing back given his attacking prowess, but let's not take away from his defensive game...
lcfcsnow Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 It's a shame neither Maguire and Dragovic can play right back, we need more footballers on the field and they are both comfortable on the ball and use it better than Simpson.

Sigh... Whoscored ratings are meaningless. Nobody was ripping him, the first post was light hearted. But he did make mistakes like most of the others did.

The guy (he's 20 remember) made 5 tackles and 4 interceptions against a very good side. He made mistakes, but find me a player that never makes any. That block in the first half was magical, too. Would have done us in to concede first.

It only looks like he's being singled out became people got ants in their pants about a light hearted comment at the start. If people stop going on about it he wouldn't even get mentioned as there were far worse out there.

He's young and needs time to learn, will be very good in the future though. Happy with Ndidi's passing this game compared to recently, 79% passing accuracy

Ox is very overrated, watching him tonight. (me being pitch-side paramedic ). I thought he was distinctly average, although that might be down to the players he was amongst. Thought Dragovic had a decent game and I feel he will grow into being a key member of our team.

I wasn't actually aiming it at you. It's just the general feeling I've had on FT for the past two/three weeks. I've read people calling for Shakeys head after all the issues with had with injuries and then Silva gate so I guess I snapped a bit. I just want city to do well but I don't see that moaning about every single thing will ever do any good.
Ian Nacho Posted 19 September 2017 Posted 19 September 2017 Didn't put a foot wrong, but in all fairness Solanke isn't the type of test he'll be facing usually but we'll see.

Possibly true to some extent, but have noticed Amartey has a poor sense of spacing when he plays RB, is clearly more comfortable hugging the box than venturing outside where a speedy wing can turn the corner on him. Saw some instances in that first half where he allowed himself to join a mass of blue shirts in the middle, rather than keep an eye on his side of the pitch. I mean, we aren't man marking out there, he was neglectful of his area of responsibility at times in that first half.

Chilwell drives some of us crazy because of his shocking decision-making. he'll play well, then he'll gift possession to the wrong shirt right outside our box. Just unforced mental errors that you simply don't tend to see from a Premier League LB. He can play 99% perfect, but if the 1% where he doesn't is causing unnecessary scoring opportunities in dangerous areas, we are gonna whinge. Making mistakes is fine, but you cannot make incredibly careless, dangerous mistakes. We don't expect perfection, but we do expect him to be 100% not making awful decisions and being sloppy on the ball in our box.

It is that he makes awful mistakes that lead to immediate, legitimate scoring opportunities for the other side. Not all mistakes are created equal. If he wants to lose possession taking on two defenders on their side of the field, ok. If he wants to do that 20 yards from our goal, it is a massive problem. Until he knocks off the careless passing and poor decisions, people are going to keep pointing out these mistakes.
dayday Posted 20 September 2017 Posted 20 September 2017 It wasn't to long ago that Dragovic was linked with Man Utd and you can see why, he looks very assured and if he carries on like that we will have a very good CB pairing with Maguire
Bert Posted 20 September 2017 Posted 20 September 2017 Nice to have another decent centre back. Thought he looked a bit raw at times when diving in, maybe eager to impress. But on the whole a very encouraging debut.

Simi Posted 20 September 2017 Posted 20 September 2017 Thought he was much improved in the second half. Looked a lot more assured, a good debut. But can't justify dropping Wes currently who has been decent form of late.
MC Prussian Posted 20 September 2017 Posted 20 September 2017 Told y'all. Oh, and Mr. Thorogood, choke on that one:
