Premier League clubs embroiled in £1bn TV cash row in biggest threat to unity since the division's inception

The “big 6” clubs are wanting a bigger share of the oversees tv revenue as they ‘deserve’ it more. They naturally do bring in more viewers, however obviously if there was such a huge restructure as to what is being proposed, the Premier League will lose its most important aspect and what I believe is its biggest strength in comparison to the other big European leagues.

I am a little bit worried too that it mentions we are one of the clubs ready to agree to this proposal. I like the ambition, but as we know as Leicester fans it hardly works out that way. We’ll just be giving the ‘bigger’ clubs an easy chance to become even bigger.

Greed, so much good in football could be done with this money rather than lining the pockets of players and agents. I fear the bubble will burst one day but the pressure is on to sign players for stupid money to appease us fickle fans.

I'd love to see an organised campaign against football greed in this country. Instead of expecting the game to self-regulate or looking to the Government for legislation. Start boycotting the games, televised or other, and the sponsors.

Well the top 6 have to do something as the 'smaller' Clubs cannot be pushed around and raped of their best players anymore and former glory teams like Arsenal need to make up their CL revenue shortfall. Plus Liverpool are not going to win anything anytime soon.

Saw this last night. My view is that the premier leagues biggest asset and USP over the other European leagues is the ability for everyone to beat anyone on any given day. For me it's what makes our league the best in the world. We know as Leicester fans that playing man united or Liverpool means the odds are against us, but we can and do get results and remain in the game.

By taking cash away from the bottom 14 teams to give to the top 6, all we will be producing is a la logs type league where frankly the bottom half clubs may as well not bother turning up against the top 4 sides.

I love our club more than I probably should! But I have always said if I ever stop attending games it will be out of principle. Either too much greed in terms of cash, or a dodgy owner. The money involved in football does turn me off sometimes.

Arsenal bring in more viewers & revenue than WBA so I can understand why they wants a bigger share. Nobody overseas tunes in to watch West Brom.

Anyone who's against this is a filthy socialist commie

Doesn't really bother me. Nobody is gonna break the top 6 anyway unless they luck out and buy a worldie before anyone knows they're a worldie.

Also it might stop clubs like us spending obscene wages on players that aren't actually very good.

Greed ? What’s greedy ? Clubs are businesses they are here to try make a profit (not many do)  There should be a reward for good performance this all split equal isn’t conducive to rewarding success

The next TV rights deal is likely to see Sky’s dominance end , the huge cash rich internet players are going to bid , YouTube in particular look like they have been gearing up for getting into the PPV and live broadcasting markets

soon clubs will be earning 250-300m a season from the EPL deals

our Thai owners have really really struck gold

but with all those riches will come pressure , huge huge pressure and managers will get only a small windows of bad form before they will get sacked , the stakes will be too high ....

look around Europe and see what money is doing the English teams are once again doing well in Europe , PSG are on fire and the biggest couple in Spain and Italy doing well

the german clubs are falling behind , they can no longer match the huge Teams in England Spain Italy and PSG , there laws preventing outright ownership lauded by many on this forum will eventually see German club Football drop to the level Dutch football is at !

soon LCFC will be a superpower in earning ability compared to Bayern Munich

English Football is about to go online and in a huge way , our game is about to change again beyond all recognition

It is really immaterial how much money premier league clubs get when most of it gets blown on over hyped and over paid players and their leech agents anyway. I remember the buzz I got in the old days when a young player from the reserves such as Lineker or Ally Brown made their debuts. The academy system of today just seems to produce fodder for the lower leagues whilst we waste the TV money on the likes of Slimani and co.

I am suprised that LCFC, along with West Ham and Everton have gone along with the big 6 on this. Surely that means that we have aspirations to be up there with them if its a 'where you finish' based amount you will get?

I cant see any other reason why we would be up for this.

Think it's pretty sad we are prepared to vote for this to be honest, a lot of the stuff behind the scenes (i.e basing King Power Holdings in the British Virgin Islands to avoid paying tax) is pretty uncomfortable reading.

It’s a protectionist move

unless the big 6 get their way and start to be rewarded for their massive followings globally  the league agreements will be terminated and then we will get Premier 1 and Premier 2 will happen with 16 teams in prem 1 and 20 teams in premier 2

with the funds being devided 50% split between top 6 and 50% being split being spilt between all 16 in premier 1

only one automatic promotion place with a 6 way play off for the last spot

LCFC know that this project is already well formulated by the big six , so does scudamore

Tell the top 6 they can have the extra money, as long as the other 14 get ffp restrictions removed for 5 years.

That way we can have the same financial doping that made chelsea and man city into "big" teams.

But if West Brom had had the ability cash-wise to spend on a level like Arsenal over the last 20 years then they would have been able to attract players and managers with the same status, have a more attractive style and enjoy similar success. In the current set-up money begets money, the system is geared to maintaining the status quo, and it is almost impossible for the lesser clubs to make the step up. We're it not so the Prem would be even more exciting, with either team having an equal chance to win in every match.

When the pl sort out ppv then the money will grow.... but the worldwide receipts will be largely driven by streaming the big clubs

However if the money is skewed it will lead to a division between  the top 6 and the rest.

This is already evident but if it gets worse the pl will become less interesting.

These big clubs should be careful what they wish for

This is a bad development for the English game. Such deals are in place in Germany, Italy and Spain and that's why those leagues have teams that are in unassailable positions financially. The beauty of the Premier League at the moment is that it's a really even playing field. Yes the top clubs spend more, but they are not getting an extra cash injection from the league to do so - it's all based on where teams finish. If this sort of deal takes place then the Leicester City story won't ever be repeated and that is bad for the game.

Surely the whole purpose of having a league is for it to be competitive,  a level playing field?

As I've  said before if the NFL in the most dog eat dog, survival of the fittest country can survive, progress and get richer with every club having an equal share of revenues why can't  the PL.

It's not as if it's improving the on field performances that much if at all. We're just getting the same and paying so much more for it.

This and the laughable called competitive tv structure with SKY  and BT having a monopoly on individual matches the whole PL is rotten to the core ably supported by an ineffectual and out of date FA and  stinking  with the smell of corruption UEFA and FIFA.

As the rewards get bigger, then the level of corruption will grow....perish the thought   :frusty:
