MC Prussian Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 We did quite well, but that against a team on the downslide, suffering from an injury crisis and led by an interim manager. The first half was a joy to watch, there was speed, determination, accuracy. In general, we looked very sharp and eager to dictate the game. Although I thought we stepped off the gas in the second half and it became a bit of a competition in "Who can make less mistakes". We were happy to sit back and defend the lead, and Everton hardly threatened. I'm most happy about a clean sheet and the direct, fresh style of play that we displayed, but I suppose many players wanted to impress the new manager to some extent. More of this in the games to come, please.
Gerard Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 For me this quote sums up Puel's team selection. Puel’s team selection was also refreshingly bold. Out went Marc Albrighton and Shinji Okazaki, surely the trusted deputies of a safety-first manager. http://www.football365.com/news/leicesters-marriage-of-convenience-starts-with-the-honeymoon
MC Prussian Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 The poppy display yesterday was very, very beautiful and fitting. Kudos to the organizers and the fans inside the stadium for partaking!

Makes me wonder how long we'd been talking to the bloke for him to feel so comfortable with those chances and the confidence it would work.
Wdywd Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Word on the street was that he was impressive in the interview because of how much he knew the squad tbf. I still cannot believe how long we stuck with the exact same players in the exact same formation before this weekend though. It's amazing. Puel comes in, only actually makes like two changes and it feels like he's some off the wall maverick
mazarron fox Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 I notice on the Everton toffee tv channel they think our Walshy is a dud and should share the blame with Koeman. How people’s stock can take a dive in a few months

Early days but could turn out be a shrewd partnership! Definitely, the cameras cut to them several times when they were discussing ideas and they look to be getting along well which was encouraging

goose2010 Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 The first half was the best we have played for a long time and we got our 2-0 lead. The second half was perfectly managed, sit deep invite pressure and hit on the counter attack, the way we broke for the 1st is Leicester at their best and it came from Everton's freekick. We bedded in sat back and waited for that opportunity great management and great disipline shown by all the players. All positive from me. Kasper didnt have a save to make which is litterally all you can ask for. Great win and it will be interesting to see how we set up away from home at Stoke.

He was a big fan of Redmond at Southampton and for me Gray is a similar player but a better player so Puel was always going to be a fan. I'm convinced we'll end up with attacking full backs and that will probably be Chilwell and maybe a new signing. A 4-3-3 formation with Gray and Mahrez behind Vardy and that front three has the potential to be right up there amongst the best in the league.

They need to look at their manager I'm afraid for wanting to play with 125 no.10s and not getting the best out of their squad. They might be missing a striker but their is no excuse for sitting where they are.
WigstonWanderer Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Did anyone else find the camera work really annoying? Constantly dwelling on off-pitch activity or unwanted replays while play was continuing.
Kitchandro Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Everton offered nothing at either end. We'll have bigger tests. But we can be pleased for now.

DelBoy73 Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Everybody summed up quiet well what happened yesterday. We have been the better team for the first 30', playing our best football since the CL run. The last 60' were our mandatory switch to all-out counter attacking footy, staying deep and inviting pressure to hit them on the counter; was as usual ugly and at times atrocious to watch, but worked out bloody well since we ended-up with the 3pts and a clean sheet. Yet, we can't come to any early conclusions since it was the first game of Puel's tenure, at home against relegation form toffees. There are 12 games to be played come boxing day, by that time we will have a pretty precise view on Puel's brand of football with our squad.

As a defender he's very decent, but to ever move forward we really need someone comfortable on the ball there as far too often play broke down on his side. I'd argue about him being a very decent defender too if i'm honest. Yes the aspect of backs to the wall last ditch style of defending he's decent but he's abysmal when it comes to a relieving pressure style of defending, the team don't even have time to reset half the time because the ball is coming straight back at them from a Simpson punt (Morgan is guilty of this too but he's not as bad). Teams won't bother tracking back when Simpson has the ball because they know they'll have it back in a matter of seconds.

It was mostly crap half-chances by Everton, played from two angles, in slow motion, with the Director not realising that Leicester will bomb upfield quickly. Hearing the crowd get excited about a City attack whilst watching Mirallas put his head in his hands in slow mo was incredibly frustrating.

Not sure I'd consider that the defending part of his game, that's exactly the part we're all saying isn't really good enough, his ball playing.
TheSomersetFox Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Would have liked to have seen us get hold of the ball a bit better in the second half rather than inviting pressure onto us and trying to counter for 45 minutes.

That was a good home win and the job was completed in the second half. Delighted for Puel to get a first win and hopefully shut a few negative people up who weren't even going to give the guy a chance! BLUE ARMY! Bit late to the party here but complete agree with you. The thing we always seem to lack is clever and organised game management when defending a lead. We have no problem scoring 2 even 3 goals a game, it's stopping the opposistion scoring and seeing the game out which we struggle with see Arsenal first game of the season. It's only one game and its far too early to get ahead of ourselves but its promising. Personally I'd like to see a few more 2-0 victories rather than the 2-1/3-2 wins which we have become used to, as while its less exciting shows we are actually growing as a side.

Statistically your point is not really accurate. When we open the scoring in games we rarely even draw, yet alone lose. I know Arsenal was an exception to that. It’s fighting back after going behind that we struggle with.
