Everton 2-0 (H) Post Match Thread

Glad someone had the balls to come in and change the starting line up.

Gray was outstanding and looks like the manager as told him head up and pass.

First half hour was outstanding no matter who we played against  today we would of gave them a game.

2nd half went down a few gears and kept a clean sheet.

Hope this is the lighting of the touch paper that we needed.

Keep the faith

That first goal was easily the season's champagne moment so far. Leicester City at their most exciting, lethal, counter-attacking best and due reward for a great start.

After we went 2-0 up it was pretty uninspiring stuff. Not sure why we kept treating the ball like a hot potato and repeatedly handing it back to Everton, but fortunately, for all their pressing and possession, Everton were toothless up front and created next to nothing against a resolute back line.

The table looks a lot better than it did a couple of weeks ago. Big week ahead for Puel to get to know the players better and prepare for Stoke, where another win would take us into the international break overflowing with confidence.

Just remembered Sigurdsson came on for them. Didn’t notice him at all.

Just remembered when there was a dedicated thread for him here and that meltdown when we didn't get him.

Lucky break

Never wanted him and he never was looking to come here. 45M, just lol.

I know the majority of us call for more competition at rb but to be fair you rarely see Simpson have a bad game.

he is vital to the way our back 4 play, and if we play with the same formation today for the rest of the season, he will support imensely in keeping the shape/ cover required when we go forward.

Yet again Wes Morgan comfortably the best defender on the pitch. And people on here quickly want him replaced because he doesn't try and pass the ball like John Stones...

Was solid today like he has been all season to be fair.

Great shout - not the most technically gifted, but he's a great defender.

have to admit i was a bit taken back when the line up was released but i cant fault the team or Puel, played it brilliant, that first goal was vintage,

good to see Puel off to a good start

Puel certainly made a statement with that starting lineup - and it worked!  First 30 minutes were fantastic.  Second half Everton subbed both their wingers and had to change their formation to cope with us - they clearly weren't expecting what we did in the first half.  They had a lot of possession 2nd half but I don't remember them creating a single good chance.  We resorted to defending deep and hoofing it up the field.  We defended well and I bet Claude will be looking to get a bit more composure and less hoof ball from defensive positions.  Good logical subs as well.  An experienced manager with tactical nous and not afraid to make changes even in game 1 - looks very promising to me :)

That first goal was the best goal we've scored for ages.

First half we played well second half we went a bit too defensive. I still don't think we keep the ball well enough especially in the second half. I'm glad puel mixed it up with his selection it would of been easy for him to stick to the same old system.

So he's suddenly a shit player because Everton are toss collectively as a team?

Bit harsh.

They'd have looked a hundred times better today if he'd have started instead of that fat over the hill fraud.

You seriously don't think he'd add anything to our midfield at the moment when we're stuck playing King?

I love how he immedietly put faith in our hot/cold players, what a show of confidence in them and they repaid him. This squad is good enough to finish 7th this season, it just needs the right ambition and direction which I think the understated Puel may have.

true, showed alot of faith in Chilwell and Gray tbf and they performed, only thing that is at the back of my mind with Puel, at Southampton he chopped and changed alot with the team, just hope that he doesnt do that too much here,

Of course he would if you compare him to King. He's a good player no question about that. That said, he never wanted to come here and 45M would have been overpaid. Glad we didn't. Time will tell if he's up to the price. Everton will sort out their problems at some point.

He acutally tried to bring it properly out today. From what I read, Puel insisted a lot about keeping the ball on the floor and you could see that the players listened.

He would suit our number 10 role behind Vardy, but if we go by today we have a better player in that role anyway in Mahrez. Wouldn't be against nabbing Sigurddson for £20 million next summer tho when Everton are in the Championship lol

But we can have mahrez ar 10

Claud just need to get him to focus on his form and lcfc

very good first 30 minutes, possession, passing great work of mahrez, vardy and gray.

then we left the possession to Everton.

Second half was poor, long throws to vardy and less possession!

plenty of work to do for Fuel but 3 important points!

keep them coming!

Come On City!

Let's hope he's high-octane Fuel...

I thought Chilwell had a poor game.  Gave the ball away too often, even when we were playing well in the first half.  A liability, IMO.

Wasn't great, often took an extra touch and was too slow to release meaning he kept getting caught with the ball and losing it. Surprised Albrighton didn't come on earlier.
