lack chemistry but, how good are gray, riyad and vardy together? that gray run was one of the things that kante was very good at (but not as fast). with riyad leaking on the right and vardy playing on the shoulder of the defenders.

think riyad has some work to do to improve himself as a CAM, with gray knowing when to drift inside. i can only imagine how good the right side can be if simmo can overlap

ben needs to release the ball faster, he is killing alot of the play.

Great win, 1st half was really good. Surprised by Puel to change the formation and personnel in his first game in charge - but it really worked.

We played with intensity and pressed more than I've seen for a long time. We countered with pace & intent and I also thought we were much better on the ball yesterday.

Gray was excellent, he made the first goal. We looked very threatening going forward with Mahrez and Gray attacking behind Vardy.

Great start under Puel.

Musa and Ulloa will be gone

Given CP's record of developing players, maybe he'll keep Musa and coach him. Ulloa will be gone next window.

I agree, we should replace Simpson in January, maybe Fuchs too, if we want more attacking full backs ofcourse :)

Yeah, I thought we sensed Everton was toothless, and Puel was confident they couldn't crack us twice, so we sort of played out the string. Like any good manager, he didn't want to show too much his first game, when his new approach worked immediately, he was able to dial back his 2H plans, I suspect.

Yep, agree.

I think the 2nd half was necessary too, i'd rather give Puel a chance to look at us when we are struggling early on so he can nip it in the bud.

I expect he saw far more than we did in the 2nd half in terms of Mistakes, lack of judgement or poor shape, he will have spotted when x player was only 1 yard out of position and he will be able to correct it.

We set up far better and I was far more confident in defense than I have been for a while, even in the premier league winning season, our defending was at times more on the side of desperate blocks than actual coordination, we had a few hairy moments but again, that is all information for Puel to work on.

I think Puel really is a long term project, I'd take top 10 this season and give him next year to bring in who he needs and work on them.

Thierry Henry always comes across as quite pro-Leicester when I hear his punditry.  He's a class act all round.

Sorry but I can't agree

hes is generally an awful pundit and a handball/World Cup cheat.

other than that he was a fabulous player and probably a nice guy! :-)

I can understand CP perhaps telling the players to be a little more defensive / cautious in the second half.

He showed he can instruct direct, exciting, attacking football in the first half and went on to prove that we can then go on to see out a game professionally in the second.

I would have bought Okazaki on at the 65 minute mark as it was clear we were tiring and losing out in the midfield.

We would have all been furious if we'd have conceded and ended up with a 2-2 draw and I think for his first match in charge CP didn't want that criticism more so than the criticism over shutting up shop for the second half.

I thought it was a good effort from all involved and if we continue in this way then we should be just fine.

I feel a hell of a lot more confident already than I did with CS in charge.

Onwards and upwards!

Yeah. The only criticism I have of Puel yesterday is I think he left it too late to make the subs.

Mahrez is an impact player and he did his job yesterday with that absolutely perfect first-time cross for Vardy. But once we're two nil up he's just a bit of a liability.

Fair play to Puel for changing the formation and starting with Chilwell and Gray. Credit to him for trusting them in his first game where you could be forgiven for playing it safe.

Went to a 4231 with Gray and Mahrez interchanging. About time we became more flexible and implemented some actual tactics into our team.

People moan about the second half performamce but Everton had their best chances in the first half. Second half we condensed the play around our box and gave them few chances.

Well i for one don't mind trying to win the game early on and then shut up shop, i think if they had of scored, we had plenty in the tank to put another one past them.

We've always defended in a 4-4-1-1 like today with the two banks but as our wingers get forward it becomes a 4-2-3-1, a formation is defined by a sides defensive shape though

It was different in this game though. The wingers had more freedom and stayed mostly in the 4-2-3-1 formation. I understand what you mean though, but it looked and felt different. In the title winning season spurs played 4-2-3-1 and I would never have called it a 4-4-1-1.

Not moaning about Puel here at all, he was in a win win with making the changes. If we won he's a genius if we lose well atleast he tried something new.

I was sceptical about his appointment but seeing the 2 types of football yesterday I'm happy to give the guy a chance, showed he can set up attacking and defensive sides using the same players, optimistic for the rest of the season now.

Statistically your point is not really accurate. When we open the scoring in games we rarely even draw, yet alone lose. I know Arsenal was an exception to that.

It’s fighting back after going behind that we struggle with.

Arsenal scored first, so wasn't an exception. We've dropped a fair few points from winning positions.

But when we've scored first.. I think we've dropped points probably 2-3 times max in the last two seasons? Which is a ridiculous stat, and why sitting back was clearly the thing to do, because there really isn't anyone better than us at keeping a lead.

Great start for Claude.

Ripped through them pretty much in the first half but was very cagey in the second half. Luckily they didnt have a much of a goalscoring threat. Thought that we struggled a bit with their physicality at times after the break.Looked a bit tired towards the finish to me.

Gray finally took his chance and delivered his best performance so far. On top of Amartey putting in a fine show against Leeds maybe there is life in the much maligned 2016 signings after all.

Morgan also played possibly his best match too.MOTM for me. Cant say otherwise but felt he was done for after Everton and Southampton last season but he's been very good since February. He's no Cannavaro but he's been some diamond for us though. N'didi and Simpson were much improved yesterday.

Lot of 7/10's for most of the team. The negative has to be Fuchs. He's on the slide I fear.  Chilwell is clipping at his heels big time. Albrighton looked a bit dispirited yesterday. Maybe the writing is on the wall for him under Puel.

Fair play to Claude. Was a bold selection when conservatism would have been understandable.Big games ahead but very positive. That first goal was a great response to his reputation for dour negative football.

Everton were pretty awful. Their excessive transfer dealings have turned round to bite them. Wouldnt view them as relegation contenders yet. It's not like the club has rotted away like Aston Villa did by 2016.

Thats their problem not ours though. Well done to the lads and Claude.

Very happy for Claude, and the first third  was very exciting (a bit like @RumbleFox‘s posts), but then like @RumbleFox‘s posts it kind of waned and got a little tired and disorganised and let in some opportunities for criticism that it couldn’t sustain the positive start. Anyway, enough about @RumbleFox (who I adore really ?).

Did anyone else notice that Michael Appleton was a lot more animated, and seemed to have a lot more input on Sunday than the rest of this season out together? Puel definitely had some tactical input, but we also played in a similar fashion to the couple of games MA was in charge for. A lot more passing on the ground and some real football. I’m hoping this keeps up, as his Oxford team played some good stuff, and he seems a nice and intelligent bloke, plus learning from Fergie can’t have done him any harm.

Let's all be fair to Chilwell, playing as a left winger is a lot different to running an overlap down the left wing as a left back. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't his best game in an unnatural position.

I'd rather have had him starting at left back with Albrighton down the wing, no offence to Fuchs.

Yes, with all the euphoria of a changed attacking team and a win this has hardly had a mention.

Chilwell looked like a lost sheep out there and with Fuchs getting beaten for pace that was our weak area; on the left.

Chilli’s problem, and ours by definition as things stand are:

He’s not great defensively.

Going forward he’s ok; but he’s not a winger and his final ball is terrible in the main.

On balance he has to play left back when the opponent has pace, and we have to hope he improves as we go along.
