KingKoala Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Everton was shockingly bad in every department, they didn't even look like focusing on the game. Anyways I am happy that I could see positive tactics and didn't need to question the substitutions, that's relieving..
ARM1968 Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 1st half encouraging. Some cracking football, slick moves and great teamwork 2nd half encouraging in that we didn't concede, but the impetus went Everton's way, which was worrying. We held out though - so happy days. Not going to join the Puel blow job brigade just yet. Give another 5 games and I'll see how long the queue is.
ian_marshall Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Surprised with some of the negativity concerning the second half display. Yes, we dropped the tempo along with the pressing game and allowed Everton to have possession of the ball, a point which was highlighted further by their switch to a midfield three, but we simply managed the game well and didn't allow Everton any clear opportunities. Admittedly it wasn't pleasing on the eye, but we did what we needed to do in the first half, so the second half was just a case of containing them whilst preserving our energy for the games ahead. Smart management in my view and in all honesty despite our decision not to go at Everton in the second half, we still created the better chances. In fact, the cynic in me actually thinks that Unsworth knew full well at half time that we had too much quality for them to get back into the game, so opted to go with a 3 man midfield as he knew that it'd give them greater possession stats second half which he could then point to after the game as a measure of improvement to suggest that they were the more dominant team after the break whilst ignoring the fact that they were completely impotent in front of goal.
HybridFox Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Credit to Claude for sending out the type of teamsheet we've all been crying out for! I was genuinely expecting a safe 4-4-2. Thought the front three of Mahrez, Vardy and Gray were superb. Just need more game time and consistency. Not sure if he'll pick the same on a cold windy afternoon in Stoke but definitely a formation for home games. Also pleasing to see Puel and Appleton actually talking to each other tactically. Early days but could turn out be a shrewd partnership! Second half was a bit concerning at times. Teams of better quality might have punished us. But hey ho! It's the first game, we'll take the 3 points and clean sheet. Up the City!
kushiro Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Match summary to the tune of 'Noel': Puel, Puel, Puel, Puel Shakespeare was ugly But he is tres belle Puel, Puel Puel, Puel Gray looks like he is On Duracell Puel, Puel, Puel, Puel Fuchs tripped him up But the ref thought he fell Puel, Puel, Puel, Puel Should have been OG But hey, what the hell?

Fantastic from the young lad, and what a cross from Riyad. https://imgtc.com/w/oWDOXMc Genuinely think that's in the top ten goals I've seen us score. Just absolutely brilliant football.

Livid Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Great first half. Fuchs looked a little exposed against Lennon. Fortunately Unsworth took him off to bolster their midfield. I wish we had got on the front foot more in the second half. They're pretty toothless up front, I think better teams would have pulled one back. Happy with it though, starting to look up rather than down.
WigstonWanderer Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Can't argue with the result, but a shame about the second half. Still, held on and I'd rather them start well and sit back at 2 0 up than sit back until 1 0 down before starting to play. Good work Claude, but more still to be done.
m4DD0gg Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Fantastic win, Gray had a cracking match and it was awesome to see something different in formation. 2nd half was poor but we held on. Onward and upwards.
Crazy Kop Corner Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Liked the team selection and performance in the first half. Pleased that Albrighton has been dropped. Good player and great lad but his performances this season have been well below par. Also, Andy King cannot start in a midfield 2 in the Premier League again. He is simply not good enough. Grey, Vardy and Wes were fantastic.
Leicester_Numan Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Let's all be fair to Chilwell, playing as a left winger is a lot different to running an overlap down the left wing as a left back. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't his best game in an unnatural position. I'd rather have had him starting at left back with Albrighton down the wing, no offence to Fuchs.

I'd rather see have Amartey in place of Albrighton and just switch sides with Gray then Chilwell in place of Fuchs

Simpson solid as always but not 100% suitable for the style we might try to play if today is anything to go by, Fuchs has lost a few too many yards of pace and gets ran by too easily, can't keep up with the counter attacks we have either so doesn't offer his (still great) delivery into the box, we'll have to see what Puel thinks of the full backs. Or we just use Amartey and Chiwell
David Hankey Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Another 3 points and a climb up the table, couldn't be better. The goal and play leading up to Vardy's goal was vintage 2016 style, great to see and proves that we can do it. Shame to see the 'Fat Boy' of Everton continually badgering and chuntering at the referee but really what should we expect from someone who is over the hill?
Corky Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 The first 30 minutes were excellent and fair play to Puel for making bold selections and throwing a couple of younger players in and leaving out two senior players. And it worked as both had very assured and often lively games. The second half was not particularly wonderful but the team was organised and we should've had another goal whilst restricting Everton to no real chances of note. Good start for Puel and it keeps the heat off him for a week, hopefully we can get a good result next week and the run continues.

daddylonglegs Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 My favourite part of this game on a comedy factor was in the second half... The crowd were giving the 'ole' treatment and Chilwell, Iborra and one or two others were all being closed down but getting themselves out of tight situation through confident 5-10 yard triangles. The ball gets played into Danny Simpson. No nonsense. Just ****ing kick it. Doesn't matter where it goes. Just kick it. He lumps it up the field and everton attack again... I think Simpson is a fine PL defender. But surely he cant have a future under Puel...
breadandcheese Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 I liked Puel's team selection. It was very brave and full of creativity. But let's not get too carried away. Everton were awful and we couldn't have asked for a more accommodating team setup from them. They had no pace at the back and big gaps in midfield allowing us to play to our strengths and counter.

As a defender he's very decent, but to ever move forward we really need someone comfortable on the ball there as far too often play broke down on his side.
smr Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Outstanding first half, we looked full of confidence, the players all looked hungry and played with a lot of character. So good to see us passing the ball around on the ground and attacking, looking like we wanted to score. Exactly how I thought Puel would set us up to play. If we play fast, direct, attacking football like that I'll be well happy. We should be playing a lot more passing to eachother rather than just hoofing the ball aimlessly up front for their defenders to head back for 90 minutes which is what it feels like we have been doing for the past year. Also great to see Mahrez and Gray both starting and playing at the same time. I'd play them all the time starting from kick off, they're just too good not to be in the team and Gray was outstanding, Mahrez was superb too - that pass to Vardy was perfect and he looked like the Mahrez of old. Grays run was just sublime. I thought Morgan had a great game as well, even had a decent strike first half, and some skills on the ball! Second half - tiredness and stuff but that I'm sure will be sorted out.
Countryfox Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Quite obvious really .. when we are in the sh1t we bring on the young uns to go for it ... all he did was reverse that and bring them on to start with then once the initiative was gained control the match ... masterstoke .. why didn't Shakey think of that ? ..... wonder how much Apples added to that decision ? ... Got a good feeling here ... just wish Mahrez wouldn't go all sulky when he comes off ... over to you Claude ... I bet you've got an answer for that too ...
