Nalis Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Anyone else listen to our match commentary on TalkSport last night? Knew Joey Barton was on, didnt like the guy but decided to give him a chance. Want was to follow was the ramblings of a confused guy who thinks he's a revolutionary thinker. Barely any insight into the match or from a footballers perspective and a franking bizarre mid match rant about how David Unsworth is too fat to be a manager and being controversial for the sake of being controversial. Bit frustating as I dont like the guy but at least thought he might have some interesting ideas. Are there any decent commentators / co-commentators out there these days?

Dan Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 I've defended Barton a fair bit as I think for all he's a bit of an idiot at times, he is quite interesting and isn't scared to talk about things, particularly in a media where I think we're overly reserved for the sake of having each others backs. But he was a ****ing joke regarding Unsworth. There's being critical and there's being a cvnt. He was the latter. Have a listen to Talksport this morning from about 9:15ish when I heard it, he was being a complete arsehole, worse than I've ever heard Durham.

Maybe Claridge, but I don't listen to him often enough and if I did I'd probably end up hating him as well.

Barton is a twat but he's not scared to say if he thinks a player is wrong or made a bad decision. He'll call people out for poor performances. But the Unsworth attack is uncalled for, and he's just being a **** to get a reaction.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Bill Leslie is a great commentator, good to see him getting Premier League games on Sky now and not just football league stuff. I like Danny Higginbotham, David Prutton and Andy Hinchcliffe (although he's not as good as the other two). All of them seem to contribute without resorting to Sutton / Savage scales of ballbag or Jermaine Jenas level of beige. Rob Hawthorne is good too and I like Nick Halling when he commentates.
Vacamion Posted 30 October 2017 Posted 30 October 2017 Barton has been in a bit of a twitter war with Celtic fans over the last few days after he went “full Hun” and suggested to a Celtic minded critic that his club has a problem with child abuse. Celtic fans then taunted him about a tweet from years ago when he had expressed support for Celtic rather than Rangers. If Barton is half as erudite as he insists on making out (which is a bit of a giveaway, really) you would think that he would have have steered well clear of the intractable divide up here.

Unfortunately I didnt have access to Radio Leicester so didnt really have a choice re: yesterday's match....

I quite like the fact that they are controversial. It was one of the reasons the station was started, I believe? At least it gets you thinking, gets the heckles up and makes you (sometimes) tune in. Look at this thread, if people weren't listening to this stuff, it wouldn't get discussed.
