Koke Posted 4 November 2017 Posted 4 November 2017 62% possession first half. 54% possession at full time. Puel is trying to evolve this team. We just don't have defence and especially full backs for it yet. We created enough chances to win which is encouraging. If Puel drills the defence and signs one or two defenders then we will be a proper team. I saw signs today that we are trying to go in the right direction. It won't be an overnight success but it's a nice change from the rigid predictable 442.

When Madley was replaced by Moss I genuinely thought we were being stitched up. Having one on the field is bad enough, but two numpties sharing the same game - should never happen. Surely there has to be an FA rule that these 2 cannot officiate the same game?

Blue ROI Posted 4 November 2017 Posted 4 November 2017 Never a dull moment with this fixture. Disappointing not to have won with so many missed chances but relieved we didnt lose it at the end. A very good show but 2-2 was a fair result. We've made comebacks a speciality of ours since the great escape so c'est la vie. Very impressive in the first half but we paid the price for that 5 minute spell after the goal when we could have been 2-0 up. The first goal to concede was a shocker.Way worse than the second for me. Fuchs have been a worry the last few weeks and Maguire had his worst game for us so far. Chilwell has his faults but he would have dealt with Shaqiri better in that situation I'd say. 2nd was a consequence of not having Iborra on the field. Difficult to deal with Crouch in the air in any case. Kasper was rock solid. Usual slow start to the season and then mr reliable after. His form since Shakey went has to be a big worry for us (Ireland!!) Morgan good again and Simpson a grafter but not a man for a possession game. Amartey could be more involved in the new year under Claude. Good for Mahrez to get a goal but he has to pass it around more. We've slated Gray for it before but Mahrez took way too much out of the ball today. He's a bit timid when going to tackle an opponent. Dont think top european clubs are going to look favorably on that aspect. Iborra was sublime once again.Looks like a right gem. No surprise we lost our way when he went off injured. Bringing on King was a sure sign it would end in a draw. Gray good in the first half but faded in the second. N'didi had his best game this season and did great for the 2nd goal. Okazaki never got going and Vardy whilst still a threat not quite on his A game. Nacho was a disappointment again. His workrate and touch is mediocre given all the hype surrounding him. Early days yet but he hasnt impressed. I'd have Slimani ahead of him.Even Ulloa couldnt have been worse! Puel needs to get the defensive shape right. We were lucky Everton had no attacking threat to spoil the party last week but Stoke were a different proposition.Back to reality again now. The possession intent is good though and it's gonna take time to move away from our counter-attack style. Had better and worse days than this. On we go.

lifted*fox Posted 4 November 2017 Posted 4 November 2017 I wonder if the stick is a little misdirected. IMO, Slimani should have come on instead of Iheanacho. He was what this game needed. Iheanacho did the minimum expected of him when he came on. Nothing exceptional but nothing particularly wrong. He just wasn't the player we needed. I was more annoyed at Puel for bringing him on in a game he wasn't going to affect. And I think Puel is doing a good job, but that wasn't a good sub.
chapero82 Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Crazy to think we could have been 8th today! the season is looking a lot more optimistic though!

dynamark Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Post MOTD BBC confirmed that time was up when stoke had the final corner.I feel this is really important issue.Time up blow the whiste surely. Stoke first goal McGuire had no business going forward after the ball he was never close enough to have an effect on the play .Defending you are either tight or give yourself time. Good to see Knocky still with a couple of good assisits.

I remember looking at the clock when they won the corner, and there was about 30 seconds left of the 4 minutes. Time added on is a minimum amount anyway, and with the ball being out of play, the ref had the right to play past 4 minutes.
dynamark Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Your thoughts Ted but this is not American football you don't stop the clock when the ball is out of play !! Games would last about 4 hours. Sky coverage on Spanish tele showed the clock live and BBC said the same time was up. Neither of us have seen the refs watch though

Neither of us have seen the refs watch though there is no way the play wouldn't be allowed to restart if the ball went out before the allotted time was up. Whether it's a free kick or a corner or a goal kick. He allowed the entire phase to play out including the clearance which I found odd. I would have expected him to blow as soon as kasper saved the header and the ball dropped. Going back to their first goal - we got suckered by a prepared move, they dragged the wing back wide to entice fuchs forward and Iborra didn't follow shaquiri's run. Maguire was pulled out and Wes didn't cover the space behind. schoolboy stuff all round I'm afraid and I expect pep will be salivating watching us failing to deal with a Stoke training ground 4 pass plan!
norwichfox Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 I thought it was an entertaining game, some very encouraging signs for the future. We could have walked it, but chose to ignore the threat of their strikers,,,,in particular the Long fellow who just waltzed past our defence to get his goal and very nearly did the same again a little later. I've read a few comments regarding Vardy having a bad game, but I don't agree, I thought he played well (for a left winger). As many have written, the game changed for us when Iborra went off injured, but it's good to read that he'll be ready for our next game. Any news on James yet, I'd have preferred to see him come on and not King. Iheanacho needs a rocket up his jacksie, I thought he looked lethargic and overweight. MoM was Iborra followed closely by Mahrez and Gray. I assume Puel isn't a fan of Slimani, I thought he would have been a better replacement than Iheanacho.

I get people don't like him cos he's allegedly past it etc but when I read posts like this it's slightly embarrassing and very petty. I like many agree he shouldn't be involved as much as he is but he came on as iborra was injured and we've limited options in there currently due to injuries and poor management. He did OK when he was on as well. People were moaning around me for him passing sideways etc but iborra did exactly the same for the opening 25 minutes yet when iborra does it, the blame moves to the player's around him for not giving him options. Sad really that king gets this much hatred
Koke Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Have we abandoned the Fuchs long throw? Had 1 or 2 opportunities to utilise his long throw yesterday but we decided not to.

I think it was more to do with the size of the opposition yesterday - probably judged more chance to get openings playing football rather than percentages

dynamark Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Any refs in the house-can you blow full time whilst ball is out of play ?
The Doctor Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 7 minutes ago, dynamark said: Any refs in the house-can you blow full time whilst ball is out of play ? @DB11 is but I'm 99% sure the answer is no, nor should they blow if the ball went out of play for a corner before it even reached four minutes. Imagine how open that would be to abuse, you could concede a penalty in the last minute of stoppage time, boot the ball into the stands and then it'd be full time before the opposition could take it if we went with your system.
winteriscoming Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 I can see what puel is trying to do. We look good going foward but defensively we look poor and it's not just the full backs. The gap for there first goal was shocking and we still look weak from set pieces. I felt sorry for ndidi because as soon as king come on he seemed to be on his own in midfield. King just seems to have a knack of being somewhere else all of the time. I definately think we need a lb as fuchs looks so slow. Seeing dragovic in a 3 would be a solution but it might mean being less attacking which I don't think were capable of. Theres a fine balance but I think puel will get it right.
