A new study examining the finances of the UK’s football clubs has revealed that Leicester City are the 20th biggest football financial powerhouse in the world.

The Soccerex Football Finance 100 show the financial power of football clubs across different continents. Its authors say that the study underlines that “the global football landscape has changed dramatically” over the past two decades, largely due to increased investor interest.

Leicester City are the East Midlands’ only representative in the Soccerex Football Finance 100. The Foxes’ entry reads: Leicester City were a little-known club in world football until the 2015-16 season, when they won the Premier League title, outperforming the more fancied names in England and their considerably higher budgets.

“Reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League in 2016-17 was also a milestone in the club’s history. Leicester City is owned by a Thai tycoon, which creates a big differential in competing in the market.

“The squad is the 22th most valuable in the global market, but its low debts and high value of its owner’s equity give the club a prominent position in the ranking.”

The report suggests that owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s King Power International Group has a net worth of €4.3bn.

The rankings, which are headed by Manchester City, take into account assets, net debt and the potential owners have to invest.

This feels so weird. I was always used to us being an underdog in world football. In this context, we surely cannot see ourselves as a 'small club' anymore.

Which is somewhat sad, I know it sounds a bit odd. Gone is the underdog bonus. Well, we'll probably have to craft ourselves a new image to be fond of after the league title.

Not sure we'll ever lose the small club tag the media have ingrained into the football psyche.

That's until the media start talking about the the Big Four...sorry the Big Five... I mean the Big Six! Soon it'll be the Big Fourteen.

This is why 7th at present, should be our aim.

And I'm sure it is. I still wouldn't quite rank us above Everton all things considered, but I don't see any other clubs below us currently being better candidates for 7th.

Everyone laughed when Vichai said he wanted us in the top 4 of the prem within 2 years in 2014....lol

Expand the King Power and capitalise then! Struggling to fathom who on earth we haven't started yet. Shouldve been in planning halfway through the title season. 38-42,000 is needed, not just wanted!

Thats  what I was thinking thought they would be 1 or 2

The rankings are explained in the original post, it's Soccerex's way of putting the club's wealth or squad value up against the club's debts. Barcelona have a relatively low number there due to heavy financial burdens.
