Imagine the pressure. "Look, your French, you don't play in the first tier of your league, and you play on the right wing. We'll give you a year or so and then we'll demand balloon d'or performances or our money back."

Players we've never heard of, that look relatively unimpressive, and their only highlights are scoring a single penalty?

Oh transfer window, how I've missed you ?

Diabate's advisor Yacine Ayad has confirmed Leicester's interest, but he refused to release further details.

Ayad told L'Equipe: "Leicester have started discussions between the clubs for Fousseni.

"But at this stage, there is nothing yet done so much.

I feel another ‘Maynard’ thread in the making here.  Yacine it all before on FT transfer threads.

In parallel, Leicester almost completed the arrival of Fousseni Diabaté. Still a few details to settle but the striker of @ gfc_ajaccio is expected Monday in England for medical visit. Compensation between 3.5 and 5M € excluding bonus

Cracking date of birth! It’s a yes from me!

I’ll forever trust our scouting team with recruits from French lower leagues to be honest. I’m a firm believer that a lot of the people who did the leg work but got none of the credit are still at the club.

Like any business it’s the people on the lowest rung that do the most for the benefit of those more public facing... if they think they’ve found another gem then I’m more than happy to back them!

It seems like the younger players that we recruit seem to come good, for the most part. Worth the shot.

There is some amazing talent that comes out of France, I hope Puel has got plenty of contacts and his finger on the pulse with the players in French football.

Just looking at this player's stats I'm struggling to see how he gets so much interest. He moved on a free in the summer and after 3 goals and 1 assist in 18 matches in second tier French football we're willing to pay up to €5m for him.

Just hope he is given a chance and not farmed out on loan after one indifferent appearance to some lowly Championship team like Florist or the Sheep.

U23 signing I reckon.

Replacement for Musa I'd guess - lost cost and wages. At 22 seems late to go into a development squad

We signed Josh Gordon when he was 22

Did anyone spot this little nugget of information?

At Gazelec, Diabate is a team-mate of Gregoire Puel, the eldest son of City manager Claude.

That must be where the link with him came from. Gazelec are Ligue 2 and well off the beaten track, in Corsica, I wouldn't have thought our Scouts would normally look at them. I guess Gregoire has flagged up his potential to Dad.

Sounds like we're supplementing Gregoire's payrise ...

Good old Gregoire - western Europe's Anderson Perry.
