From what I’ve seen of Maddison he looks a class act and I’m really excited by the signing. He’s only had the one season playing at that level however, I hope he’s not written off too early here if he has a slow start. We have a habit of doing that with young players. Why does it look like it is not happening is it because the transfer bid has been agreed? or is it because the contact negotiation has been agreed or is it because he has passed his medical ?? If we're ever going to have a chance with competing with the top six we can't buy established players at that level so the next best thing is to buy players with potential to perform at that level. Maddison was arguably the best player in the Championship last season and is 21 years old. If you watch his highlight reel he can do things that ooze quality and you either have it or you don't. These aren't lucky goals with the swing of the foot. Who knows what his ceiling is but if we can buy plenty of excellent young players with potential then we won't go far wrong. Even if he doesn't live up to expectation I'm sure his value 2-3 years down the line will still be £10m-£15m. Over the years, not seen a player so obviously destined to go on to bigger things unless perhaps another connection, that being Darren Eadie. Maddison has so much time, can make opposition players look silly at times. He also gives absolutely everything to the cause unlike some signing's we've made over the years. I think he's a great match for you guys as I think he will get time on the pitch rather than a season being a sub as would have probably happened at one of the so called 'big six'. Also, watch for his set pieces, scores some stunning ones. As I say, all in all gutted but it's pretty common knowledge we had to sell as we're kind of broke and this move will allow us to strengthen our squad. The speculation in the press the last couple of week about other interested clubs and bids was just that. Speculation. Not getting into arguments but he had several “opportunities” not so much offers as well as ours. And my mate mentioned how much Chillwell talked the club up helped him make his decision, he was only with Maddison recently at a social gathering. We acted quicker than anyone else and he wanted to stay local for now as he’s purchased a house in Cov. I’m just pleased we’ve manage to sign a quality player!
