Still negotiating, waiting on injury news, tied into Maddison's injury.

So that's Maddison up against Grealish in the "Who's going to sign next?" race.

Exciting news.

Personally, I hope it's going to be Maddison. :fc:

Thanks for sharing Stan. Pretty disappointed with the fee as a standalone fee, especially as Liverpool have apparently bid €60m for Fekir who hasn't even kicked a ball in the PL let alone won a PL POTY award. I think having payments linked to Man City winning the CL is a big IF. Shame we've succumbed to pressure from one of the so called big boy's.

We have not succumbed to pressure from a big boy. The pressure is from Mahrez. Who will strop and cause trouble if we don't let him go.

The other problem its a one horse race. Very hard to get the best deal when no one else wants him. Had Man u and Chelsea joined the race £95m was very possible.

Seems to be a certain type of player we're after, I'm sure there will be others on the list that fit the MO.

I'll be disappointed in £60m plus add ons, but we are over a barrel to some extent in that it's clearly time for him to leave, and Man City know it.

I will be when we are quoted £30-40m for Andros Townsend.

If nobody else is bidding, we can keep a player that wants to go, with his price reducing quickly as next summer he's only got one year left. Or we can cash in and try and strengthen the whole team. I think he's worth more, but what can you do.... It's probably the best decision all around.

Exactly. Surprising no one else is bidding. But he clearly wants to work with Pep. Oh well, we just need to get the best deal we can. Just frustrating.

If people think championship players with one good season are worth £20m, then it wouldn't be surprising. Townsend got 7 assists last season and created more chances than anyone else for Palace, wrongly maligned IMO, like Hodgson was.

All true. I would just prefer (as I’m sure many would) that the club would announce a ‘replacement’ for Mahrez, to soften the blow. It should be part of the agreement we have with Man City. Is that too much to ask, since they’re taking our best player?

Also if we delay Man City and they turn their attention else where and sign someone else then imagine the shit storm. No one else is going to pay 75 million this summer so we are faced with the choice of either keep one of the most unhappy players or sell him for less than what we know he is worth.

Remember we are saving about £10m on the remainder of his wages (over the 2 years) as he's one of our highest paid players.

If we can get lucky and fill his boots with someone on only 50K a week then that would add another £5m to the transfer so £60m with addons and saved wages could = £75m in the end...

I'm just wondering if we've secured his replacement now he's off.

Or will we desperately scramble around all summer? Surely we can't be looking at the likes of Madison or Grealish to fill the void?

I quite like him but the thought of him being Mahrez's replacement would be horrible. We'd never hear the end of it. I'm waiting for us to be linked with Shaqiri as well, it's bound to happen.

I think Shaqiri would be a good option. 8 goals and 7 assists in the PL last season, playing for a side that got relegated, is pretty good. He's also a year younger than Mahrez and has considerable PL and international experience.

I think the changes in the way we play that Puel is trying to implement are intended to remove the almost total reliance on Mahrez to create goals for us. I’d imagine then that we will see that creativity from other positions as well as right wing rather than a massive splurge on a single player in a like for like replacement attempt.

I didn’t realise you got any inside knowledge Babylon? I knew Stan did but not yourself or is this matter of opinion?

He also has a £12.5m release clause in his contract. My personal number 1 target to replace Riyad which is realistic. The other target has to be Zaha, however I can never see this happening.

I was thinking the same thing. He'd be a decent replacement. Think he'd do well here.

I don't think Diabate is a lot different to Mahrez when he arrived. But Mahrez has had a learning curve. Diabate has been dropped straight into the prem not the championship.

Hard to say what Diabate has at his you age in 3yrs we could all be saying Mahrez who?

I genuinely think Diabate will be a very good player in time

Shaqiri would actually be ideal if available for 12mil

Its a realistic buy for us. Splashing cash on players like slimani got us nowhere.  Dont get me wrong id rather keep mahrez or sign messi but it doesnt seem like thats happening

Disappointed it isn't the fee rising to £75m that was suggested earlier. £65m feels a little cheap. Perhaps it was a case of getting the deal done early and then having those funds available now, so we can get our own targets in quickly, rather than having it drag on for weeks.

What a move for Mahrez though. Going to a team that plays scintillating stuff. Hope he does well there and will be sorely missed here!

Let's hope we are able to announce a few exciting signings in the next week or so as well
