Time will tell on whether Mahrez will be a universally accepted Leicester legend or not.

For me, his transfer saga and behaviour has been pretty symbolic of the state of modern football at the moment, which is difficult to look past.

Oh well, we're living through the era of our greatest ever legend and we can't have everything. All hail king Vardz.

For me possibly a legend, but again for me the most technically gifted player I have seen play for us in my lifetime.

Just a shame the way he left us couldn’t have been more respectable all round, if he was made promises they should have been honoured, and he should have shown a bit more respect for the fans, regarding sitting at airports, and disappearing in jan, has just soured one time of one of our greatest players, and his legendary status for his parts in the titles we won in his time here.

It's easy to be loyal when you have just won the league and been offered  a 100% pay rise. Andy King had plenty of clubs sniffing round him when he was banging in the goals in the championship.

Who has contributed more:

14 years (11 as a pro), 378 games, 62 goals, 3 titles

4 1/2 years, 179 appearances, 48 goals 2 titles (although he didn't contribute much to the championship title)

It's easy to be loyal if you're earning a small fortune every week for 14 years.

We don't know that anyone ever made an offer though.

Averaged out over a season it's Mahrez.

Not knocking AK as he's a PL winner but to try and compare the two is a joke, let alone claim that King is more of a legend.

You seem to think we have been a money bags club all that time, throwing stupid money at contracts for bit part players. When he was attracting interest from the likes of Everton and other premier league clubs he wouldn't have been on a big wage. If he had wanted a move he would have got one. He didn't.

He is a legend, he is not a better player than Mahrez, but he is a legend. The fact that anyone could even entertain the idea that our top scoring midfielder, that the player that has made the 10th most appearances for the club, that a player that has won the top 3 leagues and spent 14 years at one club is not a legend is just mind boggling.

I can see why some people think Mahrez is a legend, I don't because a legend doesn't destabilise an entire season for selfish reasons, but to not see King who has achieved remarkable levels of success and longevity with one club as a legend is just unfathomable.

I think you're an idiot if you value Andy King's contribution to this club over Riyad Mahrez's.

It's easy to be loyal when you don't have better offers. I'm not belittling Andy King in anyway but he hasn't performed well enough to be wanted by a bigger club than us. I wonder how loyal he would have been if he performed to a standard high enough to get PFA POTY and 7th placed Balon d'Or?

Spot on.

People suggesting King has stayed here out of loyalty are reaching IMO.

He has never excelled or stood out enough in our team consistently, to warrant a move to a bigger or higher placed club over the years.

I respect what he has done for us and will be a sad day when he does go (should be this Summer IMO) but lets not get carried away.

Yes he has! Is everybody forgetting the Championship and League One years?

He has has never had the ability of Mahrez but he was massive for us in the Championship and a fair few clubs were sniffing around him. Nothing came of it but he could have kicked up a fuss and forced a move.

Key word being consistently.

Had his fair share of good games, even in the Premier League, but has always followed them with periods of having very little impact.

I imagine that is why over 14 years, there has been little interest from other clubs on signing him.

A decent pro at every level, who you can count on to fill in when needed, but certainly not a player who stands out IMO.

Oh good, a pointless debate about Andy King...

100 pages. Anything goes.

It's still an interesting debate nonetheless.

Whilst not even trying to compare them because it's utterly stupid, I personally think that both are legends in their own way. Both aren't mutually exclusive.

One for his fidelity to the club and devotion to the team, the other for his sheer brillance and the exceptional moments he gave us. For these moments I'll gladly turn a blind eye on his two weeks strike which seems to have left so many butthurt.

I don't the think we've always been a money bag club (I was supporting us years before we went into admin.) But he was still earning a small fortune compared to the average person.

There were rumours that Everton were interested, did they ever actually make an offer? I certainly don't believe that there were a number of clubs vying for his signature. If that was the case we would probably have tried to force the move to get much needed funds.

He's a legend due to being a PL winner not for being a one club journeyman ;)

From 2008 - 2013 he was consistently our best player.

You mean our top scoring midfielder that has dedicated 14 years of his life to this club, won the top 3 leagues, 2 player of the season awards, scored in 11 consecutive seasons, including being top scorer in one, numerous occasions as captain. He has always been there when called upon, turned down all approaches never thrown his toys out of the pram over contracts, playing time etc

What do you think?

Crap though ain’t he lol

It's Foxestalk; can't be a proper thread without it.

Not like an 'I know best' poster dragged him into from nowhere... Oh wait. Scrap that.

He was very consistent when we were in the Championship. Mahrez had a brilliant season and a few good spells, hardly Mr Consistant himself.

He absolutely did stand out while we were in the Championship, I’m not saying this because I’m King’s biggest fan but because he genuinely was a top performer for us during years we had dross pass through the revolving door of LCFC.

Who knows, but if King had wanted to go he would have forced a move. That is how it normally works, very rarely is an actual transfer offer made without the player/player's agent being sounded out first to see if they want to move. Everton were interested as were other clubs, but when the initial feelers are sent out and they get no bites they don't waste their time.

Do you honestly think that nobody in the premier league would have been interested in a 22 year old midfielder that scored 16 goals and got voted in to the championship team of the season for a side that finished 10th?

I don't think you can be a one club journeyman.

So not for being 10th on our all time list of appearances?

Not for being our highest scoring midfielder if all time?

Not for being the only player in the premier league era to win the top 3 leagues with 1 club?

He's a legend just for that goal against West Ham that started it all.

He's a legend for chasing after Waghorn when he scored and stopping him removing his shirt.

He's a legend for the many faces of Andy King thread.

He's a legend for being the only bright spot in the worst season in this club's history and playing a huge part in turning the club around.

Post of the day for me @Captain...

It’s easy to forget how s*** we had it for so many years. I tell you what, losing King while we were in the Championship would have hurt me a lot more than losing Mahrez this summer or last. That tells me enough about how much he meant to LCFC (to me anyway).

Riyad is like the ex that says they don’t love you anymore but who’s pants keep ending up on your living room floor, just leave us alone, spare us the heartache, the pain!

Well, if you were to stop wearing their pants and just return them,....oh, I see
