But we're waiting for this deal to happen before we bring in a replacement.

I don't think so. Some sources say that the only thing left is for Mahrez to sign the dotted line. If we already have an agreement with Man City then they will not come back on their word because they want the deal done. But if we sell Mahrez, the replacement's Club will be blinded by the Mahrez transfer fee and they will get greedy.

I dearly hope this doesn't turn into another saga.

What I find interesting is that in the last three transfer windows, only two clubs (Roma and Man City) seem to have actually made offers.

Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. But I think some are prone to overestimate how other clubs see him.

He was fantastic for us in 2016 but based on last season I'd struggle to make an argument he's worth £80m if I'm being totally honest.

You having a laugh? Wilfred Zaha has been valued at 75 million by the media. Mahrez is worth a lot more than Zaha in my opinion.

This would not surprise me.

He pissed about for half a season as a non trier (again) and showed himself to be very unprofessional in the last 6 months.

£80m for someone with those attributes who also lacks an in game work ethic, which doesnt fit in with what the manager insists on?

If we can get that sort of money, it would be good business but is it possible now it won’t happen?

You see that it exactly how I see it. Pep went out of his way to say he only wanted players who would fit with his ethos. I just don’t think Mahrez does.

To be honest I want the guy gone now - despite his brilliance. If we can get £70-£80 million I’d be delighted. Just think he might end up shoved up our arse with only his bottom lip stopping him from falling in completely.

There has been so much Mahrez-related fake news over the years, I'm not sure I trust any of these sources any more.

The only current concrete offer we seem to have put in is for that Turkish kid, but some people are saying he's not a winger, so who knows if he's a replacement.

I think the hold up is from Man City's side, likely Jorginho or agent fees. If we were the ones stalling, I think we would have heard at least one comment to the media from Riyad or his agent by now.

The 75m 'valuation' came from Palace, it clearly isn't market value. Same with Villa and 40m for Grealish. Pretty sure Puel has 'valued' Mahrez at 100m in the media.

On the upside if he doesn’t go and we sign Hazard & Maddison, coupled with our fancy new defence we’ll probably be 6th, and chasing down 5th/4th :)

Valuation is what the selling club state it as whether it is market value matters not. This whole 'a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay' is complete BS. If you don't think this is true go down the local shop and start negotiating a cheaper price that you are willing to pay, you will be laughed out of the building. I hope Leicester operate in a similar fashion.

Let's not forget that Mahrez is a recent former PFA player of the year and last I checked the going rate for a player with this accolade was in excess of 100 million. Why should we bend over just because we aren't a Man United or Liverpool?

You do realise Villa are expecting 40million for Jack Grealish! Transfer fees are ridiculously inflated and we should expect 65 million at least for Mahrez.

But £65m for Mahrez is not inflated, it undervalues him IMO.

Right let's make 500 millions.

I still think Mahrez can do things no other player in the league can do but sometimes I wonder whether we are biased and over value him.  Then I just look at his stats.  Outperforming world class players in the prem like Hazard and Coutinho.

Try offering £75m for Hazard.  You would be able to hear the laughter from the M25.

He's a great player but I don't think he'll dislodge Kompany as club captain.

Without seeming like having an inferiority complex I think it’s because we’re Leicester, how dare we ask 70 million for a player, how dare we even own a player worth that much.

Sad that a good chunk of our own fans have this mentality

if ruddy had any balls he’d say, today the price is £80,000,000, it’s going to increase by £2,000,000 a day until this is done.

I've totally lost interest in these protracted sagas we always seem to get involved in. The Silva fiasco was the last straw for me - days if not weeks of speculation as to what was going on. Turns out the club for some unknown reason tried to register him minutes before the deadline and made a mess of it and after all of that he doesn't seem to be that good anyway. This palaver is similar, we simply are not told what's going on which leads to all sorts of rumour mongering. It's actually boring now.

Correct, this’ll probably drag onto transfer deadline day leaving us 10 minutes to sign a replacement, at least we have made a couple of early signings instead of waiting until the last day like everyone else seems to, even though they’ve had months to sort out deals.

I've got this lovely mental image of both clubs and Mahrez himself being quite chilled, paper work all prepped and ready for signing off.

Fancy another Garibaldi Riyad? Don't mind if I do Rudders, cheers. How 'bout you Pep? ... as they all browse this thread pissing themselves laughing.

The question I keep coming to is the quoted fee in the rags correct? Because if so why have we lowered our valuation all of a sudden. I still think the club value him at 80-90m not the 60-75m being bandied about, depending on which (story) it is you read, and unless someone's coughed up he's going nowhere I'd imagine.
