City striker impresses Puel with his leadership skills.

Jamie Vardy could be set to lead out Leicester City as captain for the second time at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The England striker wore the captain’s armband in the absence of regular skipper Wes Morgan and vice-captain Kasper Schmeichel in the goalless draw against Southampton and Puel said he would have no qualms about asking Vardy to repeat the role at Crystal Palace.

Schmeichel will again be missing with an ankle injury, while Morgan was left out of the starting eleven against Southampton and could again be amongst the substitutes against Roy Hodgson’s side as Puel continues to assess all his options for next season in the final four games.

Andy King has usually been the third in line to be captain at the club but he is now out on loan at Swansea City.

Puel said Vardy had been honoured to lead City against the Saints and the City boss said he had all the attributes to be a strong captain.

“I think different players can make captain depending on the game,” said Puel.

“When Wes isn't on the pitch it will be Kasper other times Jamie.

“It was Jamie for the first time. He was happy before the game to be captain. I think it is important for me because he is a good captain.

“He showed his energy and his quality. He can score and give a good feeling and good way to his team-mates.

“He can be a good captain, also when Wes or Kasper are not here.”

the old ways say a defender or a midfielder should be your captain but it should be the most experienced or the one that inspires the team the most and that clearly is Jamie Vardy. he leads by example and of course is very vocal.

The more I think about it the more it grows on me.

Vardy's spirit epitomises what most of us want Leicester be about, a hardworking, never say die attitude type of team.

He's also a massive figure in the dressing room and I think with Vardy on the managers side, we won't have any problems that could arise from certain high profile droppings of players, ie. Morgan and Simpson.

I don't think adding pressure to our only goal threat is a good idea. Our transfer strategy is usually sign an international captain so we should have enough options come next season.

Good news. That also means we won't see Morgan again this season.

It's entirely possible to be grateful for everything he's done for us as captain and still think he shouldn't be playing. He's one of my favourite ever Leicester players but it'd be Dragovic and Maguire if it were up to me

Agreed but there's no need to be so joyful about though.

As long as it doesn’t take anything away from his natural game I’m all for it. I’d quite like Maguire to take it as another incentive for him to stay, and I prefer a captain to be a defender or midfielder

Is Puel trying to play Vardy off against Morgan?

Morgan is such an integral part of the team. And also so far off what Puel wants from a centre half. I wonder what Puel and Morgan think of each other. I bet Puel would be happier with Vardy as captain.

Can you not see how it’s possible to be grateful for someone or something, but also to recognize that moving past that person or thing is best in the long run?

I've thought about this more and more recently, he'd make a good captain for us with Morgan possibly being phased out. Never been keen on giving the armband to a GK myself.
