I said 2-1 and thought I was being an optimist, but could feel that a reaction might happen

  • Vardy giving it lip every time he was offside.  And he was offside every time

That was the last game, no wait, the game before? Oh, no the game before that I think. Perhaps, it was every game?!

What made the difference IMO...

1) Mahrez turned up (coincidence that it was reported in the papers yesterday than Man City were renewing their interest?)

2) Players hurt badly by the lap of appreciation walkout vs West Ham and having the motivation to make it up to us

3) A ref slightly biased towards us rather than against us, perhaps wanting to make up for the mistake of not giving that Kompany red card last time out

Excellent performance just a shame it wasn't against 11 men for the full 90 minutes.

Every player to a man played well. In particular Choudhury, Silva and Iheanacho! Well done to Jakupovic too looked a lot more steady in goal than Hamer and produced a few excellent saves.

Arsenal provide a totally different type of opposition to what we normally play against though. They attempted to play a high line hence why Vardy was almost getting in behind so often. They gave us lots of space in between the lines too which you don't typically get against the likes of Burnley, Newcastle or any mid table prem side.

it was great to see us pressing all over the pitch with intensity and snapping into tackles but infuriating at the same time as we should've been doing this for the last 8 games.

Listened to an interview with Vardy just now and he said they made a concerted effort to get the ball forward and attack quickly, rather than passing around midfield and defence, as that’s what the manager wants from them.

Begs the question: if that’s what the manager wants, and that’s what our players do best, then just what the hell has been happening for the last few months?

When teams sit deep and pack the defence it's harder to play those balls as there is no space. Puel did predict it might be a bit easier to play that way as Arsenal would be more open.

This performance is like chalk and cheese to what's been served up for the last half a dozen games.  The intensity, the fight, the determination, the aggressiveness was there for all to see.

It baffles me why we haven't seen this for so long!

Also, Puel seemed a lot different tonight.  Didn't shout much, didn't celebrate, walked off quite quickly.  It was like the players just decided they were going to try hard tonight and that was that.

Well said.

Can you put it in an open letter though?

Rubbish Puel is clueless, the only time we done well under him is when we played in our usual style, that has served so well for three seasons but good old Puel decided he knew best and screwed up our season with his ridiculous tactics so I wouldn't get carried away with one result, no doubt Puel will revert back to his master plan shortly

You can still press teams and attack with tempo, even when they sit back!  We haven't been doing this previously.

I'm now fully convinced of the player power. Same coach, same players and yet they gave Arsenal a run for their money before they even were one man down, with a weakened midfield at that. Coincidentally when Simpson was back.  They wanted to win and we could see it from the get go.

We still have a lot to clear with this team and this summer will be critical.

He looked composed and calm. His distribution was good, didn't kick the ball out of play once. He made some excellent saves.

Why the **** we've been playing Hamer when this guy looks this good. Personally think he could easily push KS for the number one spot if he's consistent.

Second to mahrez on Whoscored MOTM

It's harder though, because they will then break on you. Our defence is pretty slow and so having them play a high line in order to press as a team is dangerous.

We were specifically talking about the type of passing.

Listened to Puel on Radio, and he wants the same intensity. It is up to him to get the squad working towards this.

I think this game was a reaction by the players because of the Saturday laCK of appreciation by the fans.

We played the way we did because Arsenal was a totally different proposition, the teams we have played lately have sat back against us and we couldn't break them down, tonight was totally different. Arsenal were wide open at the back and we were able to press and pounce on defensive mistakes, Arsenal from defence to midfield were not compact enough and it helped us massively.

It was decent, far more determination and energy from us but Arsenal did help us out a bit. Plenty of positives tonight though, Silva and Iheanacho had their best performances for us imo.

If we get hammered by Spurs then this win will count for very little, roll on Sunday.

If we bang Spuds away we'll need another poll and I might need a psychiatrist to help me decide whether I'm Puel in or Puel out. That's a humongous IF though

(as of now, I'm stil Puel out)

When we play these teams that sit back it’s evident that a target man is needed.

Also did Puel back down to player power and knock possession football on its head tonight.

something had to give!

Agree with this. Good account of tonight.

Due to Arsenal’s faster pace and coming at us we had to use our natural instinct instead of playing a slow laboured game were our players have time on the ball and have to think

Lovely way to sign off at the KP especially after the last few games of dross.

Obviously the red card had a massive impact on the game but for anyone saying it's not a red. It's exactly the same as Albrighton at Palace.

Anyway. Should've been 4 maybe 5 up at half time but Cech pulled off some fantastic saves. When they scored I just thought, great it would be us. But that wasn't to be and another top class goal from Mahrez rounded it all off. Delightful chop to create an open goal.

Thought they all looked decent tonight. Hamza in particular looked the best he's been for us tonight. Flying into tackles, much more positive forward passing too. Solid enough at the back thoughout and we look so dangerous on the counter it was like our team that we've been used to. Vardy kept getting dubiously flagged which could've lead to more chances. Iheanacho looked like the player we all thought we'd signed and Diabate looked threatening every time he went forward until he started to drift out of the game towards the hour mark.

First time we've beat Arsenal under Wenger in the premier league, only our second time ever doing so.

As much as the last few games have been woeful, I'm gonna miss going for a few months.
