Seeing as he is leaving who would you bring in to replace mahrez's creativity and how he's created 23 goals for us so it's a heavy hole to fill.

Personally I would like to see us buy shaqiri + a playmaker to replace mahrez

I'm optimistic Diabate will feature more often next year and offer something. SIlva has struggled with the speed of the league but should he bridge that gap then we have 2 right good players at our disposal.

Another thing is that for all the concerns about Riyad leaving the bigger problem for me has been the form of Simpson and Morgan.

It's another 'Kante' moment but I reckon our recruitment has been a little bit more solid from the wretched 2016. Kante was a loss but we got N'didi and that stopped the rot. Its not been perfect but Maguire, Diabate, Iborra to a lesser extent has been more promising. Pereira could be just what the doctor ordered too.

We might not immediately replace Mahrez but as long as we dont get lumbered with another Musa we'll do alright.

I think it will be as difficult as what Everton found replacing Lukaku, very difficult.

I'd like to think we've been sensible and have a shortlist of targets in mind, given we've known we needed to replace him for about a year now.

No idea whether we'll get them though but I think we need to think big and go for it, go for a top quality player.

Two things to say here:

1- we can't and won't

2- mods close this shitshow of a thread

Could be a shift to creative midfielders with pacy widemen used to create space. Doesn't necessarily work with the players we have but suits possession football with 3 in the middle

Ziyech, Boufal, Hazard, Lozano, and Roberts are a few names off the top of my head. Sure, not all of them are realistic, but Pereira and Diabate look to be decent, so I'm optimistic about future signings. There's no way we'll replace Mahrez with a like for like replacement, though.

Another of these threads????

Personally I’d love Zaha, but he isn’t as creative and won’t leave for anything less than one of the supposed top six clubs.

Am I the only one who’d love us to throw some of the money we’ll make at someone like Guðmundsson? I know Burnley have a Europa spot but he could think - one shot at Europe or potentially several more in the future. He’s a proven creative winger, only a small number of assists behind Riyad. I think he’d link up well with our forwards too.

Then based on this season I’d love someone like GroB (can’t do the correct B/ ss) to further give us someone creative who can also score in midfield.

Ziyech should be our number one target ... think he'll be a revelation here.

I agree 1 million% with this right here.

If we can get a player of his calibre or very similar we will be fine or even better.

Bring in Ziyech

I said it before and I'll say it again - we won't "replace" Mahrez.  He cannot be replaced.

Yes, you can buy another player to play in the same position but he obviously will not be the same, not have the same qualities nor offer the same options. That's simply stating the obvious as I see it. So please stop this talk of a "replacement".

I don't think you splurge the Mahrez fee (whatever it might be) on one 'replacement' player. That'd heap the pressure on said player and simply be tempting failure.

Instead you use the cash to address squad weaknesses and rebalance the side. We relied too much on Mahrez. We have the chance now to change that. We already have good and exciting attacking options, we need to support that and, perhaps, bolster it. We ought not be hoping to find Mahrez Mk2, he's the end of an era. We move on.

Any player can get replaced it's football at the end of the day, Mahrez is probably the most exciting and skillfull player we have seen in a leicester shirt. He wasn't a star performer as soon as he got to leicester he was good but not to the standard we made him.

Yes it will take time but we have time leicester is in a great place at the moment and I honestly believe that we will find someone equal to his standards.

Anyone cn be replaced Messi and ronaldo will all be replaced at some point and better players will come.

However I agree with you 100% get the balance right in the squad to fix the key areas that we are currently weak and spend time to get a replacement.

75mill can get us 4 Very good players to make us such a strong team, I'm looking forward to next season already

If we’re seriously interested in Grealish, Roberts and Maddison then I hope we only sign maximum one of those three. We are already gambling on Gray and Diabate to a certain extent and we can’t have too many young attacking midfielders/wingers who have just potential. Someone with a bit more proven quality like Ziyech is what we need but as a previous poster said, we shouldn’t be on a lookout for a “replacement” and I’m sick of every article I read saying “Leicester interested in player x as a Mahrez replacement”

He's irreplaceable.

So don't replace him - change the system. 352, 3412 & 433 could all work for us next season, importantly, allowing Vardy and Iheanacho to play together. The former could look like:

Schmeichel

Dragovic

Evans

Maguire

Perreira

Silva

Ndidi

Loftus-Cheek

Chilwell

Vardy

Iheanacho

In a 3412, Gray could play free behind the strikers, or alongside them in 433.

Looking at this list I'm glad were linked with Maddison and tenuous links to Ziyech. I said yesterday that I'm glad we have Pereira on the right over Simpson, he'll give us alot more attacking threat. Then we'll end up possibly with Gray, Diabete, Maddison? Ziyech? Roberts or another. I can see Puel phasing Albrighton out too, so could see a couple in

Couldn’t replace ngolo and won’t replace mahrez. Similar with vardy. You just have to evolve the playing style to compensate  by exploiting your abilities in other areas.

Exactly! That was my point and said in far fewer words.

I guess I'd just become a little exasperated by what I perceive to be an element of panic out there. As if we have to consult the stats book and find a like-for-like player to come in. I personally believe that's a hiding-to-nothing approach/belief. Why, Mahrez himself may not ever reproduce those figures, not even in the sky blue of his dreams. He did not exist in isolation and we gave him a platform as much as he performed on it. So let us look at that and see how we develop our platform.

Mahrez was not our 'only' creative player (our statistically most successful one, yes, no arguments there, but not our only one) That argument not only does a disservice to our other players but also risks over grandising (if such a word exists) Mahrez. Goals have come from other channels. Think back to Drinkwater's (warning; tired expression coming up) 'pings down the channels', Albrighton's crosses - Fuch's too, to a lesser extent. This season, we've seen Iheanacho add something, Diabate too. Gray has it (if only we knew how to nurture it and bring it on). Silva has shown an ability to make a telling pass. Personally, I think Mahrez's departure can be seen in a positive context.  We have talented and creative players already; supported and augmented (and the fees from Mahrez's departure will facilitate that) then I feel we're in a good place for them to develop further.

So forget about marquee signings, the multi-tens-of-millions dollar names to be our new figurehead and look instead to the 3,4 or even 5 additions to augment the squad we have. We've seen the first of such already (and I'd not be surprised if we signed another RB too) and I suspect we'll be adding a few similarly priced/targeted players as the weeks progress. I'm looking forward to our post Mahrez era already.

By having 3 players capable of creating chances behind Vards rather than just one.

Exactly what we should have done two years ago.
