His todger is bigger than Shaqiri!

Are you insinuating Shaqiri is a little ****?

We were linked last transer window so we seem to have taken a good look at him which is normally how we operate when it comes to transfers.

Funny how we seemingly are less interested in signing Dragovic, who has played for us before and did so rather well, and more keen on signing a Georgian centre-back from the Russian Premier League for about the same price.

He has probably taken the decision out of our hands and doesn't want to sign here.

People seem to forget that just 1 injury to either Evans or Maguire, and we are stuck with Wes or Benny as our starting CB for however long.

We can't afford to do that anymore, not with our apparent ambitions. We need our 3rd choice to be genuinely pushing our starters, and more than ready to step up when needed. That goes for all positions too.

Excited that we are looking at players of this calibre and not simply going for squad fillers.

Amazing to think those two started as centre halves for our home quarter final against Athletico Madrid and it's probably the biggest game the club has ever played in.

Are you referring to the fans or our recruitment team?

I suspect Dragovic's boat has sailed for whatever reason. The price, the sell-on-clause, the wages he'd demand, his personal reasons, like the number of games he was willing to sit out (rotation) etc. Who knows what the specifics are? But I think it's likely that we moved on to other options.

I'd have loved him with us, but it's not meant to be, it's not. If our recruitment think he is as good or will suit our needs, then I'm not to argue, I've not scouted him.

I'm asking myself that now that we've got Maguire, Evans and Morgan (and maybe Benalouane still), which centre-back would want to come here from abroad and join us, only to play third or fourth fiddle?

Kverkvelia is a Georgian international and arguably one of the best, if not the best centre-back in the Russian Premier League. Who says he'll accept to be third/fourth choice? At some point, you'll need competition. And we can't just sign foreign players for the sake of it, and then not play them - even if they're good enough and talented (as seen in the case of Dragovic).

We'd be shooting ourselves in the foot there.

Surely the answer to your question is, no one. No one would want to come here to sit on the bench but if this lad believes he's better than what we have and believed he can prove it then in his mind he won' be coming here to take a back seat.....

We do definitely need another centre half - Benny seems to almost leave every summer and with Huth now gone we could do with extra back up - unless Hughes, Moore and Knight are ready to step up.

This is the bloke whose sons we need to target for a ball-playing defender....a wonderful footballer.

Image result for "Aleksandr Chivadze"

Watched him play for Dinamo Tbilisi against WHU at Upton Park in 1981. Great team and it was so much fun seeing those miserable Irons fans after the game!

Our reserve centre backs are a tough situation as we have plenty in numbers in Morgan, Benalouane, possibly Amartey and Moore, Hughes and Knight from the academy.

Unless we can offload either one or both of Morgan and Benalouane this summer I'd probably run with what we've got and reassess in January.

In an ideal we'd get rid of Morgan and Benalouane and then we can focus on bringing in a centre half to be first reserve and I'm sure he'd still get about 15 games next season.

Proper article. Personally i would love him. Quick, can pass, no nonense defending etc

After the championship, won by the capital "Locomotive" in the last season of the Premier League, the demand for a number of football players of the team has grown significantly. To the most "liquid" players there is a steady interest from the clubs of the leading European championships, a Izvestia source familiar with the situation said. Thus, the shortlist of the English "Leicester City" includes the central defender of the "railroad" Solomon Kverkvelia. The management of the club - the champion of England of the season-2015/16 is considering the possibility of paying about € 17 million for a 26-year-old Georgian football player, the interlocutor of Izvestia specified.

According to him, representatives of the "Leicester" already went personally to the president of the "Locomotive" Ilya Hercus and even sent him an official proposal.
"Juventus" bought from the "Bavaria" football player Costa for € 40 million

"Querquelia is not the only candidate for the position of the central defender in the English club, but his playing qualities appeal to both breeders and mentor Claude Puel," the Izvestia source said. - However, the top management of the "railroad" and the head coach of the team Yuri Semin do not want to leave Solomon this summer, not to lose the system-forming player on the eve of the autumn start in the Champions League. The club believes that, having shown themselves in this tournament, Querquelia will attract even more attention of European teams. The footballer and his agents are also in no hurry to part with the red-green.

In the "Locomotive" did not officially comment on information about the interest of the British to the Georgian defender. However, in the opinion of Rinat Bilyaletdinov, an ex-mentor of the youth structure of the "railroad" and the Kazan "Rubin", who worked with Solomon Kverkvelia in a club from the capital of Tatarstan, the player should be delayed with the move to Europe.

"The potential of Solomon was visible even at a time when he was beginning to win a young place in the main part of" Rubin "," Rinat Bilyaletdinov told Izvestia. - Unfortunately, the last season in Kazan, he did not ask because of disagreements with the Spanish coaching staff - otherwise, Querquelia could be among the best much earlier. But the transition to the "Locomotive" and the work under Semin made him the strongest central defender of our championship, who is reliable in his own penalty area, perfectly reads the game and plays well with his head, and is also able to help in the attack. Now he is demonstrating football, which may well attract the attention of European clubs, but I would recommend Solomon wait another year, prove himself in the Champions League and only then think about the possible transition.
Footballer CSKA and the Russian national team Golovin can move to "Juventus"

Specialist believes that Solomon Kverkvelia played one of the key roles in the last triumphant performances of "Lokomotiv" - last year's victory in the Cup of Russia and the win of the last championship of the country.

- He became the leader and soul of the team. Especially important was his contribution in the first half of the championship season and the Cup final, when Likomotiv suffered a loss of such a master as Vedran Corluka, "Rinat Bilyaletdinov added. - For those six months that Vedran was absent in the composition, it was Solomon who took on the role of leader in the defense and contributed to the victory of the team in the Cup final. And then the successful performance of the "railroad" in the first two thirds of the Russian championship, when they left the winter break with an eight-point separation from their pursuers and already actually secured gold for themselves.

The former director of English "Portsmouth" Roman Dubov told Izvestia that he knew about the interest of Leicester to Kverkveli. A Russian businessman who is an investor at the Norwich City club academy, in the winter, discussed the candidacy of the football player with former assistant of the head coach "Fox" Michael Appleton, who worked at Portsmouth.

"As far as I know, in the winter, the Leicester had an objective interest in Kverkveli," Roman Dubov told Izvestia. "I've even talked about this with Appleton." Of the four central defenders of the "Leicester" three deeply in 30 years, and their best times are probably behind them. It is quite real that interest in Solomon has been preserved. And the need to find a player of this role is. The money from the "Lester" is available, they promised the head coach to allocate a serious amount for transfers, so I believe that the financial issue will not be the main one. Given that "Leicester" - one of the best clubs in the league in terms of price-quality ratio, then overpay and look for a player of the European top-class for a lot of money they will not.
FC Lokomotiv signed a new agreement with Peru Farfan

At the same time, Izvestia's interlocutor noted that the leadership of Leicester could refuse from more persistent attempts to buy Kverkveli, given the unfortunate experience with the acquisition of CSKA forward Ahmed Musa. In the summer of 2016, the Nigerian joined the "fox" for € 19.5 million, but for a year and a half he played in the championship of England only 21 matches, scoring two goals. Last winter, on loan, he returned to the army.

- After an unsuccessful experience with the purchase of Musa, there was some uncertainty about the players from the Russian championship, - Roman Dubov explained. - Therefore

Looks like a proper no nonsense defender. Some awesome sliding tackles in that highlights reel!

A very questionable league, though it must be said that Vidic came from the Russian league too, and he wasn't too shabby. Think there are better options but looks like a player that could probably do well in our league. Tall, strong and fast, good anticipation.

If there's any truth in this rumour (sounds as if there might be), I wonder what it means?

Maguire, Evans and Kvirkvelia would all be hoping to play a lot of 1st team football - and we presumably wouldn't be buying Evans or (potentially) Kvirkvelia to spend most of the season on the bench.

I hope it doesn't mean they're dubious about keeping Maguire. Might just be good competition for 2 first-team places (with Wes further down the pecking order?) or might signal a switch to 3 at the back?

I'd like to think think it's more to do with Puel not wanting to have to play Wes for any stretch of time if we get an injury or two.
