I like the idea of English players going abroad for game time and to broaden their horizons, play in different systems, experience different cultures, etc.

I still think Gray can do the business here though. He's still very young with bags of potential.

The guy has ability and potential that needs to be unlocked by a consistent club, with a consistent manager playing consistent football where he can learn and develop.  I believe he will prove himself this season after a solid preseason and with other u21 regulars around him and nail down the left wing spot with Chilwell tucked in behind him and with Maddison occupying the right.  Happy to be quoted and have this thrown back in my face in May 2019 if this hasn't been the case.

so u want to give every team who plays us a massive edge by playing gray and chillwell together on the left, god help us because with them two losers even MESSIE  could not save us lol.

I've never understood this line of argument.

If we sell a player deemed not good enough for our first team then we're not really strengthening a rival, we're taking their money for an inferior player.  If we refused to sell to another PL club they'd only buy another similar player and we'd be £5m poorer. That line of thought weakens us not our rivals as we become less rich.

Personally I'm a big fan of Gray and think he has all the talent and ability in the world and would never consider selling him up to this point. Now I'm 50/50 on him being sold, he can still become a fantastic player but he's been here 2.5 years now and hasn't really kicked on and established himself in the first team. I think he would be a good replacement for Mahrez as I think his best position is down the right hand side but I would also be open to selling him for the right offer.

If the £25m from Bournemouth was still on the table from last year then I'd probably sell but for £20m I'd probably keep him.

They don't necessarily have to be not good enough for us, just unsuited for our particular style of play, or unsuited to the PL. (for example Kramaric, Slimani)

I said last summer I'd take 15-20m and I still will. He won't want to go overseas though. Although I don't mind him staying as winger backup/impact sub/football friend for Chilly and Maddison.

Don't see the point of saying we'll give him one more season every single summer. He's had 2.5 seasons now and hasn't got any better or worse (end product wise). Sure we can keep waiting around in hope, but there has to come a point where we give up and sell, if we see no evidence of progress, like with Schlupp.

What's Mahrez got to do with it? Gray won't replace Mahrez and won't play as a 10 either so he will just be in the same position as last season.

I'm  not thinking along the line of one player replacing mahrez more having options for a different style of play that don't really depend on one man like mahrez.

What English players actually go to Italy nowadays, He'll want to stay in the Premeir league or go to Spain.

Ravel Morrison went to Lazio not so long ago. Then shipped off to Mexico so wasn't exactly a roaring success.

Puel has history in developing talents. Those saying that  Gray isn't reached his potential are technically right, but he's not getting as many games, and as pointed out that there have been a number of managerial changes. Puel also has history of dealing with getting the most out of moodies.

I personally think that it would be folly to give up on him and sell, and I don't think we will. He will soon have another u21 in the team and its obvious that we are building a team for the long-term with prospects and talented players that with nurturing we can build a solid backbone for future success.

Stinks of Ravel Morrison.

I know he went to Lazio but it doesn't at all - they're completely different players. I know Gray has his detractors on here for his perceived attitude issues but to compare him to Morrison is a bit daft.

21 yo international premier league player wanted by Lazio and others - FT kiddies think he's rubbish. FT posters never cease to amaze me.

- Never played for England's first team, isn't a international.

- Premier league player because he plays for a premier league club, he's not good enough to make the difference at this level.

He's played for England U18, U19, U20 and U21. He's an international footballer.

He's a premier league player , he plays for Leicester City in the Premier league.

You may not like him but when other Prem teams are willing to offer one of the highest fees (our third highest ever) we've ever received for a player and he's wanted by top European clubs he's clearly a good player. And he's only 21. I wonder if you've improved at your job since you were 21 (or are you not 21 yet)?

Bournemouth offered us £25m for gray, the same team who signed Jordan Ibe for £15m. Gray is a premier league footballer, but so is Musa ..

Probably wise to check your spelling before you capitalise to make your point.

But they didn't offer us £25m for Musa or for any other player. they offered it for Gray. Still if you think you're better at talent spotting than a bournemouth team who have excelled at prem level with young players , I'll let you carry on thinking that.

De Bruyne is a prem player, Musa didn't play in the prem this season but you clearly have a very precise definition of a prem player - For my information how many prem players are there? 22?

Bournemouth offered us £25m twelve months ago when like us they thought with more games he would become a star. Not heard that they remain interested now having seen his pretty average performances last season and the Lazio rumour will be nonsense probably spouted by his connections.

There does not seem to be a queue forming for his services unless I am missing something.

Yeah, the fact that we haven’t seemed to be open to selling him yet. :P

NO.

He'll have one more season here, he deserves it. If after that, he still didn't improve then we might think about selling him.

Whats he done to deserve another year?

If the fees right get rid imo.

Gray clearly isn't good enough to start for us. If you can't see that then you need to go to Specsavers. Valuation doesn't mean anything in today's game.

Plus, all this coming from someone who thinks Mahrez is rubbish? Not the best judge of talent really.

I'm not sure about this tbh I don't think the problem lies with Gray's footballing ability but I think it's his football brain that's letting him down .

His decision making and lack of vision severely hinders his skill and ability

But I do think if anyone can help him it's puel !

I'd like to see him develop here and believe he can but it seems he thinks he's ready now to walk into the first team .

There is lots of players who came to this crossroads and decided to leave their clubs and failed.i hope gray won't be one of them
